I've always been obsessed with horror. From childhood, when I bunked with my siblings and primas, we told each other spooky stories in the middle of the night to rock ourselves to sleep. Every evening we would take turns telling stories, and the stories seemed to get scarier and scarier. When it was my night to tell a story to the group, I knew I had to bring the best jump scares. I'd find myself spinning stories until my sisters' and primas' bodies would tense up in fear. I knew then that horror stories were something I could weave. There's something about having fear knotted up in your belly; it's like riding a roller coaster and waiting for the thrill of the drop.
Horror has always been a part of my life, so it felt natural for me to work on a book like "The Black Girl Survives in This One.

In Gregory Widen's 1995 horror film "The Prophecy," angels look like ordinary people but are a little ... off. They are typically clad in black suits, but move like birds, snapping their heads around quickly, as if constantly aware of potential danger. They also have unnatural balance, able to perch on the edges of buildings or the backs of chairs without toppling over. When an angel calls Uziel (Jeff Cadiente) dies in the first "Prophecy," a medical examiner finds that the corpse is missing its eyes and that its blood chemistry is similar to that of an unborn fetus. Angels, it seems, are also intersex, possessing both a penis and a vagina. Angels, it seems, lurk among us, resentful of humanity.

"Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" isn't quite like any other "Star Trek" show, and when it debuted in 1993, it was quite the departure from both the original series and "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Instead of following intrepid explorers on starships trekking across the galaxy, "Deep Space Nine" followed the stories of the people who lived on board the space station Deep Space Nine (DS9) — civilians, Bajoran militia, and Starfleet officers alike. Showrunner Rick Berman was in charge of taking the "Star Trek" universe in a new direction following the success of "The Next Generation," but he ended up looking to a rather old television series for inspiration.
In an interview with StarTrek.com, Berman explained the inspiration behind "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and revealed that he and writer/producer Michael Piller got their biggest idea from a classic 1950s Western. That's pretty great given the fact that "Star Trek...

It’s about time! Thirteen years have gone by since the release of Final Destination 5, but we’ve been hearing rumblings that another sequel was on the way for years. A while back, Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, came on board to produce the sixth film in the Final Destination franchise alongside Dianne McGunigle, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, and Craig Perry. Back in September of 2022, we learned that the duo of Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who previously directed the 2018 film Freaks (starring Emile Hirsch and Bruce Dern) and the 2019 live-action Kim Possible movie, would be directing Final Destination 6. Last October, it was revealed that the film will be called Final Destination: Bloodlines… and now cinematographer Christian Sebaldt has shared an image that indicates Final Destination: Bloodlines will be heading into production soon! Yesterday, we saw the first images of what Bill Skarsgard of the It films is going to look like as goth rocker Eric Draven in director Rupert Sanders’ (Snow White and the Huntsman) remake of the 1994 classic The Crow (watch it Here). There weren’t a lot of positive reactions, with many fans comparing Skarsgard’s look – which Sanders said was a mixture of his own look in the ’90s, “when we were squat-raving in London,” with modern influences like Post Malone and Lil Peep – to Jared Leto’s poorly-received version of The Joker in Suicide Squad. One person who took to social media to blast the look of the new Eric Draven was Alex Proyas, who directed the ’94 version of The Crow.
Sharing one of the images, Proyas said, “Eric Draven’s having a bad hair day. Next reboot thanks.” In the comments, he continued to mock the look:...

We recently heard that Lionsgate has picked up the distribution rights to the reboot of the classic film The Crow (get it Here), which was released by Miramax back in 1994. Before Miramax acquired it, The Crow had originally been set up at Paramount. They decided to let go of it due to the controversy surrounding the on-set death of star Brandon Lee and the amount of violence in the film. So when Paramount acquired Miramax back in 2020, gaining the rights to The Crow in the process, it was like the film had gone full circle. It came back to Paramount. Recently, cinematographer Dariusz Wolski, mentioned a 4K restoration of The Crow would be on the Paramount Plus streaming service soon. While it hasn’t hit streaming yet, Blu-Ray.com announced that the 4K Blu-ray is set to come out on May 7th to mark the film’s 30th anniversary.

The producers at New Line Cinema had the opening fatality of Final Destination 3 in their back pocket well before the movie’s 2006 premiere. In fact, talks of a deadly theme park ride made the rounds before creative partners James Wong and Glen Morgan returned to write the script. After the disappointing return on 2003’s Willard, New Line wanted something thrilling for its next horror project. A “roller coaster” movie, as New Line founder Robert Shaye put it. Like-minded Richard Brener is also owed some credit; the executive producer apparently was on the same wavelength after brainstorming ideas — initially anything big and transportational, such as boats and trains — for the intended conclusion of this franchise. However, the overwhelming box-office numbers steered the original plan off course and Death lived on to kill another day.

With no recent news on that rumoured new Friday The 13th game, what are fans to do? Well, if you’re like indie developer Steve McCall, you make your own. Not only that, but you take your existing game, along with other slasher games that you’ve made, and you demake it into the style of an Nes game.
The story goes that McCall had created four games a few decades ago where you play as one of four iconic slashers: Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers and Candyman. The four games—Friday The 13th: Return to Camp Blood, Halloween: October 31st, A Nightmare on Elm Street: Son of a Hundred Maniacs, and Candyman: Be My Victim—were developed for what he referred to as “archaic computers”, and feature simplified controls.
Really though, when you’re playing as one of horror’s favourite slashers, do you really need complicated controls?...

Fetch your lasso and hat: Indiana Jones is back, and this time in a first-person videogame. Here’s the trailer for Indiana Jones And The Great Circle.

The game takes place in 1937, between Raiders Of The Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, and finds Indiana Jones hunting for an artefact known as The Great Circle. As per usual, a bunch of bad guys are after it too.

Indy is back, this time in a new video game from MachineGames and Bethesda called Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Set within the same timeline as the movie, the game sees a young Indiana Jones (voiced by Troy Baker) begin a new adventure that will take him from his desk at Marshall College to the Vatican, the Forgotten Temples of the Sukhotai, the Himalayas, and back to Egypt for the first time since Raiders of the Lost Ark.
In fact, Great Circle takes place just a year after the events of the original movie, but before The Last Crusade. In other words, the game will finally show us what Indy was up to in the two-year gap between Raiders, which is set in 1936, and Crusade, which covers 1938. 1937 is a year in Indy’s life that has never been explored onscreen. Three years after Bethesda released the first teaser trailer for developer MachineGames (Wolfenstein: The New Order) new Indiana Jones game, the publisher finally revealed actual gameplay footage of the project that is now officially titled Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. While there’s quite a lot to say about what we saw in that trailer, the biggest takeaway from the preview may instead be something we heard: Indiana Jones’ voice actor.
Indiana Jones has a surprising amount of things to say in the first gameplay trailer for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, but his voice may be more notable than his words. In fact, shortly after the trailer was released, some were left wondering if Bethesda had actually convinced Harrison Ford to step into the voice booth and reprise his role for the upcoming game. Others speculated that the studio must have simply found a fairly convincing impersonator.

It’s been a long time coming, but MachineGames (the same folks behind Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus) and Bethesda have revealed their Indiana Jones game at the Xbox Developer Direct. Officially titled Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the first-person adventure game will be coming to Xbox and PC later this year. The game will use a likeness of Harrison Ford, with Troy Baker voicing Indy. And fresh from his stint as Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the game will also star Tony Todd.
Accompanying the reveal is a 13-minute trailer featuring gameplay for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which will take place between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. The year is 1937, sinister forces are scouring the globe for the secret to an ancient power connected to the Great Circle, and only one person can stop them—Indiana Jones.

The honorable Klingon Kurn (Tony Todd) first appeared in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Sins of the Father". In that episode, he revealed that he was the long-lost little brother of Worf (Michael Dorn), the only Klingon in Starfleet. Kurn had been living under a fake name, as his and Worf's father had been (falsely) accused of betraying a camp of Klingons to the Romulans years before. In Klingon society, a son is just as guilty as their parent, hence the episode's title. The crime in question was actually committed by the father of a character named Duras (Patrick Massett), who had covered up the crime and was now poised to sit on the Klingon High Council.
Rather than accuse a potential Klingon ruler of malfeasance and potentially throw the entire Klingon Empire into a civil war, Worf chose to keep all this secret. He instead allowed his...

"Candyman" began its life in 1985 as a short story called "The Forbidden," originally published in Clive Barker's "Books of Blood, Vol. 5" (called "In the Flesh" in the United States). "The Forbidden" was set in Barker's hometown of Liverpool, specifically at a run-down building called the Spector Street estate, where a grad student named Helen went to photograph images of graffiti and poverty. While there, she encountered a mysterious monster the Candyman, a creature she assumed was merely an urban myth. The Candyman is covered in bees and sports a hook for a hand. Its origins are unknown.
In 1992, filmmaker Bernard Rose adapted "The Forbidden" into the feature film "Candyman," one of the more celebrated horror films of its decade. Helen was played by Virginia Madsen, and the mysterious Candyman was played by a menacing Tony Todd. Rose transposed the location from Liverpool to the Cabrini-Green housing projects in Chicago.

The Final Destination series is in the midst of a near 13 year break. But thankfully that should be ending next year with the sixth entry in the series. But thankfully Eric Heisserer came along with an script that would blow audiences away. Ending the year in signs is the hilarious, adventurous, sharp-tongued era of Sagittarius.
There’s truly nothing like them. They are quirky, mysterious and full of life. While they naturally grab the attention in the room, they feel most comfortable when they’re in their lonesome.
Sagittarius is the jack-of-trades sign; the sign that takes up space in every all industries — whether they be an actor, comedian or a bus driver — their versatility allows them to do it all. And that flexibility helps fuel their “I’ll try anything once” mindset. To them, what is life if you’re not living it to your fullest? The only thing you have to beware of is their slick mouth. Between Sagittarius, Virgo and Aries it’s hard to tell which sign is more brutally honest. Truly, to know Sagittarius is to love them. And if you don’t love…it doesn’t...

"What we visualize, we can actualize!" An early promo trailer has been unveiled for an indie horror thriller titled The Activated Man, from filmmaker Nicholas Gyeney. The film is premiering at the Dances With Films NYC Festival in a few weeks, hence this trailer arriving now just before its big debut. After Ors Gabriel loses his beloved dog to cancer, the shock from the trauma produces strange vision projections that force Ors to wrestle with two possibilities: That his mind has fractured, or that it's actually real... Drawing on the universal theme of grief with a twist that Gyeney's work is noted for, The Activated Man stars Jamie Costa as an everyman who loses his beloved dog. His grief spurs disturbing visions that cause him to wonder if he's dealing with the usual highs and lows of a painful loss, or if darker forces are preying on his mind. For Nadji Jeter, stepping back into the role of Miles Morales for Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 was a chance to learn some new skills — outside the realm of webswinging. Among them was studying American Sign Language, which Miles uses to communicate with street artist Hailey Cooper in the game, which has been praised for its deaf representation.
“We had great teachers on set. I’ve always embraced it, because I feel like we’re touching a lot of communities,” Jeter tells The Hollywood Reporter. “A lot of people out there that can sometimes feel like they get excluded. But in Spider Man 2, everyone is connected with this game.”
In Spider-Man 2, Jeter also formed a relationship with genre legend Tony Todd, who plays Venom in the game.
“That’s my uncle, man! Uncle Tony,” says Jeter. “The day when he was on the motion capture set, it was like the President was there.

Horror has come into its own in the 21st century. This is not to say that the genre has ever not been one of the most interesting and creative in the long history of cinema. Since nearly the beginning of the art form, using moving images to scare audiences has been a gateway for aspirin filmmakers to break into the industry—or for even veterans to creatively something about the greater world by painting a landscape of anxiety.
Nonetheless, the 21st century (particularly beginning in its second decade) has brought a renewed appreciation for scary movies’ abilities to speak to audiences with more than just “boo.” With that in mind, we at Den of Geek have polled our staff and collected the below list of what we generally consider to be the best chillers of the fast quarter-century or so. Enjoy.

It’s always a good time to revisit the “Final Destination” movies, one of the goriest, most (re)watchable horror franchises of all time.
The cast of characters trying to dodge Death in each film changes (for the most part), but the enigmatic and menacing coroner William Bludworth (“Candyman” star Tony Todd) is in every installment except the fourth movie.
Here’s where you can stream all five movies, where people who survived catastrophic disasters are killed off in inventively gruesome ways.

In the first film, student Alex Browning (Devon Sawa) has a terrifying vision that the plane his French class is taking to Paris will explode, killing everyone. The much-anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 video game recently made its debut on Playstation 5 to great acclaim. The new open-world superhero game premiered with an 8/10 score on IGN.com and a 90 Metascore on Metacritic with a 9.0 user score. The big draw in the sequel to the hit game Marvel’s Spider-Man and its continuation, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, is that Peter Parker gets an upgrade in powers thanks to the alien symbiote. The same symbiote is destined to create Venom out of Eddie Brock. The Venom character is voiced by the Candyman himself, Tony Todd.

The Spider-Man family of media is synonymous with some of the best actors in the business. The movies are iconic thanks to the stars who bring the stories to life, and the cartoons are legendary for some of the best line deliveries you’ll ever hear. However, unlike properties such as Batman, no one actor has truly embodied the wall-crawler or his amazing friends (or deadly enemies). So, Insomniac Games had their work cut out for them when it came time to cast for Marvel’s Spider-Man.
To say Insomniac knocked it out of the park with their selected voices would be an understatement, so of course they were primed to return for subsequent entries, including Spider-Man 2. The game is full of returning characters, many of whom are voiced by the same actors, but the main selling point are all the new faces. During the game, players will get...

In the world of film, you will have icons that appear with a few manufactured into something better than they are. The Net and the Hollywood star system of the past do that today with some questionable ability and content on both sides of the camera being hailed as something special. The icons of the horror genre rise to the top like Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, Bela Lugosi, Christopher Lee, and Peter Cushing. Their names are often above titles of films even reduced to the use of the surname as in Karloff and Lugosi without losing box office appeal. Entering this realm is the feature documentary of actor Robert Englund simply called Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story.
I honestly was not a huge Freddy fan towards the end of the A Nightmare On Elm Street series of films because for me the stories became set pieces for effects.
