A few weeks back, I put together a list of a bunch of different outdoor decorations you can make in order to add some thrills and chills to your yards this Halloween season. Today, we have a great collection of Diy décor ideas that are perfect for inside your home, and some are even easy enough that kids can help out if they want to join in for the festivities.
Craft Tube Candles
As mentioned, these Craft Tube Candles (via Fun 365)are one of the Halloween decorations on this list that younger crafters can help out on (just be sure to offer some assistance with the hot glue gun). They make for fun accents around your home, especially on fireplace mantles, and reusable tea lights mean you can get a lot of mileage out of them, too.

Just like Dr. Logan, Waxwork Records has been keeping busy with new vinyl horror score releases this year, and now they're resurrecting two favorites as re-issues with a slightly new look: George A. Romero's Day of the Dead and Sam Raimi's Darkman:
Press Release: Waxwork Records is beyond thrilled to present George A. Romero’s Day Of The Dead Original Motion Picture Score on deluxe double vinyl. Originally released by Waxwork in 2013 and 2014, and selling out almost immediately, the score to George A. Romero’s Day Of The Dead by composer John Harrison (Creepshow, Tales From The Dark Side) is 100% synth driven, dark, and blends elements of tropical compositions and atonal, droning electronic cues.
In 2013, Waxwork and composer John Harrison unearthed the original, lost 1985 master tapes containing the complete Day Of The Dead film score from the attic of a recording studio in Pittsburgh, Pa. After painstakingly restoring,...

Taking the prize for the biggest surprise of last week has to be the announcement of the new Doctor Who spinoff Class.
Heading up the all-ages show set in the halls of Coal Hill School is award-winning writer Patrick Ness. But who is he - and what can we expect?
After all, Ness has written 'adult' novels, but he's mainly known for his young adult books, particularly 2008's The Knife of Never Letting Go - first book in the Chaos Walking trilogy - and 2011's A Monster Calls.
And yet we couldn't be happier to have him working on Class, and here's why:
His villains are fascinating and terrifying
Take Mayor Prentiss, the antagonist of Chaos Walking - he's one of the most genuinely terrifying villains who ever twirled a moustache (not that the Mayor would ever do anything so gauche as moustache-twirling).
At no point is there ever any...

Doctor Who is finally getting another spinoff – this time from acclaimed Young Adult writer Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls).
BBC Three's Ya drama Class will be set in the halls of Coal Hill School, where The Doctor's companions Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright and Clara Oswald have all worked.
Doctor Who in crisis? The big questions facing the Saturday night sci-fi
The heroes of Coal Hill School are the students themselves, as they fend off threats to London from intergalactic monsters and other scheming baddies.
Class - which airs next year - will be the first television series for Ness, the author behind the wildly popular sci-fi Chaos Walking novels.
Steven Moffat said today (October 1): "No-one has documented the dark and exhilarating world of the teenager like Patrick Ness, and now we're bringing his brilliant story-telling into Doctor Who. This is growing up in modern Britain - but with monsters!

As expected, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 easily scored the biggest debut of the year this weekend. However, the third movie in the immensely popular franchise did drop off dramatically from its predecessors, and even wound up below the penultimate chapters in the Harry Potter and Twilight franchises.Playing at 4,151 theaters, Mockingjay opened to $121.9 million this weekend. That's well above Transformers: Age of Extinction's $100 million debut, which was the previous high for 2014. Overall, this opening weekend ranks 15th all-time.Mockingjay's debut doesn't compare favorably to the other movies in the Hunger Games franchise, though: it's down 23 percent from Catching Fire's $158 million, and is also significantly lower than the original movie's $152 million. More surprising is the fact that Mockingjay wound up lower than Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1's $125 million and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1's $138 million. It's worth noting up front that...

Men Behaving Badly made a brief return in the form of a one-off sketch last night (October 13) as part of the Stand Up To Cancer telethon on Channel 4.
One of the highlights of the original series was Gary (Martin Clunes) and Tony's (Neil Morrissey) quest to find a new pub after The Crown gets a revamp. Gary's system of ranking their locals with different categories is a great tool for real-life pub crawls after moving somewhere new. Try it!
With this in mind, we pondered which pubs from TV history would rank well using a system similar to Gary's? We've chosen just a handful of famous watering holes in order to find the best one. The only rule is that they need to serve alcoholic drinks, so Central Perk doesn't count.

As expected, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire attracted nearly unprecedented crowds to movie theaters this weekend. The highly-anticipated sequel opened to $158.1 million, which is the best opening ever in the month of November. It's also the sixth-biggest opening on record, and ranks third all-time among 2D-only movies.Catching Fire's $158.1 million opening is a bit above the original Hunger Games, which surprised many when it opened over $152 million last March. It's also ahead of the three Twilight sequels that opened at the same time in November*all three wound up between $138.1 million and $142.8 million. Catching Fire's debut ranks behind The Avengers, Iron Man 3 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, all of which had the added benefit of 3D ticket pricing. On Sunday, Lionsgate's estimate for the movie was $161.1 million, which would have set a new 2D-only record. When actuals were tallied, though, Catching Fire fell a...

Some films are always destined to flop. From misguided initial conception through to the highly publicised release the whole internet can be bracing for a poorly thrown together film to take nowhere near its budget back, while the studio that is meant to have teams of analysts working on it seems none the wiser. How do things get this far without someone realising?
Well I think we have the answer. The suits in Hollywood follow a formula that unbeknownst to them is fundamentally flawed. The real steps are probably locked away in Walt Disney Studios, waiting to be cracked out to use on their now annual misguided, family friendly flop (will Maleficent follow in the footsteps of Prince Of Persia, John Carter and The Lone Ranger? Probably), but today we bring you a good guess at what they are.
So without further stalling for time, if you’re looking to get rid of $200 million overnight,...

In honor of the upcoming 50th anniversary of Doctor Who and the BBC special that will probably spawn enough debate to get us through to Eleven’s final Christmas special, Puffin is releasing a series of eBook stories featuring each of the eleven Doctors so far. “Tip of the Tongue” chronicles an adventure of the Fifth Doctor, accompanied by the ever-helpful Nyssa. As described on Amazon.com,
“In 1945, a strange new craze for Truth Tellers is sweeping the kids of small-town America. The Fifth Doctor and Nyssa soon arrive to investigate the phenomenon, only to discover that the actual truth behind the Truth Tellers is far more sinister than anyone could have imagined…”
As a convert to Doctor Who via the 2005 reboot and only just beginning to delve into Classic Who, I knew next to nothing about Five beyond the decorative vegetable that he wore in his lapel.

Real quick mission statement: this column is for discussion of superhero movie news and superhero movies. Titular allegiance aside, this sphere includes non-Marvel properties.
This week: Re-Capping our four main superhero tentpole universes in three parts each: Biggest News, Tip of the Hat (good) and Wag of the Finger (bad).
Comic-Con, it happened!
As we all learned from being or not-being there (and just gluing yourself to twitter and the Marvel live-stream and your favorite live-blogs) that Joss Whedon really dropped a massive bomb with the idea that a single superhero team-up movie can cap off a shared-universe of continuity.
That’s right, it’s the Heroic Age, or that’s the Marvel Comics term I’m co-opting to talk about how everyone wants to be The Avengers for the next three-or-four years and we saw that happen in San Diego this year.

Andrew reviews the entertaining sixth 50th anniversary Doctor Who Puffin e-short, Something Borrowed, by Richelle Mead...
This review contains some plot details but no major spoilers.
This fast-paced adventure is the sort of story the Sixth Doctor never got on screen, and is more indebted to the Russell T. Davies era's tendency to travel to alien planets reminiscent of aspects of present-day Earth. Possibly it would have been called Pterodactyls in Vegas.
The sixth entry in the Puffin ebook series introduces the Koturians, a race who've based their planet on Las Vegas and interpreted the American dream as 'exploiting people's hopes and dreams for profit'. The difference is that weddings on Koturia are fashionable rather than tacky.
With its brisk romp through airborne dinosaur attacks, the companion befriending a local, and garish palettes, this one really evokes a lighter Tenth Doctor episode. It's been...

Review Andrew Blair 23 May 2013 - 11:00
Andrew enjoys the fifth in Puffin's Doctor Who ebook series, Patrick Ness' Tip of the Tongue...
Patrick Ness writing Doctor Who is a hugely exciting prospect. A Doctor Who story set in Maine is a hugely exciting prospect (Stephen King probably isn't going to write one of these).
Ness has taken a considered look at a considered Doctor, and came up with what we'd now term a 'Doctor-light' story. The action unfolds with two children as our leads. Johhny and Nettie are young teenage outcasts - of German-Jewish and mixed-race familes respectively – in America during 1944. Johnny fancies Marisa, she of the aloof angelic type, and despite his poverty (his Dad is away fighting in Europe, he and his Mum work evening jobs) has shelled out on a second-hand Truth Teller.
Truth Tellers are small, sad looking creatures who hang off the tongue like fleshy ties,...

Just as Christopher Nolan's stamp on the Batman franchise comes to an end with “The Dark Knight Rises,” the film stands to hold a greater meaning for his long-time Dp, Wally Pfister. It was recently revealed the installment will serve as Pfister's last film as cinematographer before retiring, but instead of keeping it low-key for his last effort, Pfister has announced even more IMAX footage will make it into the film than expected, as well as plans for his upcoming directorial debut.
Previously Pfister imagined 45 to 50 minutes of “The Dark Knight Rises” would be shot in 65mm IMAX and, but since then final cut was locked, and now a definitive number of 60 minutes has been promised. The news broke via THR during Saturday's Kodak Focus event at the La Film Festival, where Pfister spoke on the third Batman film in addition to showing his reel of work on “Insomnia,...

They're baaaack!
The three outspoken sisters -- who are best known for their assessment of Kim Kardashian's sex tape (and lack of carnal moves) that went viral in May -- have a few things to say about the runaway S&M hit novel "Fifty Shades of Gray." (Warning: The video above includes graphic sexual language.)
"I think this is the best way to lose your virginity and then quit," said Josie Cavaluzzi, 72.
"I spoke to a lot of women, younger women in their 30s, and they absolutely can't put this book down," shares Mary Bartniki, 81. "I'm puzzled! I don't know why."
The 3 Golden Sisters as they're now known as, hoot, cringe and shake their heads at some of the more raunchier acts and "contracts" described in the book's pages.
"No acts involving fire," reads Teresa Dahlquist (Josie's twin sister).
"Well, of course not," agrees Cavaluzzi.
But for all their admonishments,...

Miss last night’s episode? Here’s what you need to know about Once Upon A Time’s “A Land Without Magic”
Airdate: 5/13/12 Writers: Edward Kitsis & Adam Horowitz Director: Dean White Synopsis: As Henry’s life hangs in the balance following last week’s killer dessert, Emma and Regina are left with no choice but to turn to… gulp… Mr. Gold in an effort to save his life. A choice that results in some fairly serious ramifications for the land that formerly was without magic. Meanwhile, in the land of magic, Prince Charming frees himself from the Queen’s evil clutches (Hat Tip: Huntsman!) and strikes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin in order to save Snow White’s life which, much like Henry’s, also hangs in the balance following one helluva rotten apple. Since the first trailer for Doctor Who Series 7 emerged and we received virtual confirmation from Steven Moffat that the Daleks would return from their holiday, the internet has been awash with excitement about the Doctor’s arch-nemesis. We’ve had Matt Smith and Karen Gillan photographed with their favourite Dalek, the BBC’s official Doctor Who website has been trailing through the history of the Daleks over the years and Whovians debating which era of Daleks were the best.
All of this has ignored the fact that the Daleks never went anywhere. Despite Moffat’s best efforts to deprive Doctor Who of the Daleks, they still appeared in series 6, albeit briefly, but more importantly, the Daleks have been busily taking over Twitter. And it seems that for once, it is they, rather than the Doctor who is winning this war of words.

American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is well aware that the show’s ratings have slipped a little in its current 11th season, but don’t expect him to start panicking. “Whatever bad press we’re getting about these ratings, my God the rest of the [networks] would love [to have these numbers],” he said. Lythgoe also answered questions about Idol‘s judging panel — and whether or not he’s considering giving them more power over who gets eliminated — as well as the show’s newest crop of competitors:

Back for their third year we are proud to present the annual HeyUGuys movie awards – The Truffles.
At the end of each year our wonderful team of writers like to round up the various movieland highs and lows into our own unique categories, to reward the diverse, the challenging and the downright lovely and both tar and feather the cinematic outcasts which offended, disgusted and just plain irritated us.
It has been a tremendous year with some intriguing debuts and some howling missteps from seasonal filmmakers. We had planets colliding, blocks attacked, apes rising and the usual spew of remakes, sequels, prequels and the rest.
Here’s our take on the filmic landscape after a whole year of 2011.
First up on stage…

Heavy D

There will never be another Heavy D.
When the Mount Vernon, New York, Mc debuted in 1987 as part of the group Heavy D & the Boyz, he made an immediate impact with his infectious dance hits. For the most part, Heav directed his material toward the ladies and even dubbed himself the Overweight Lover. With his music, Waterbed Heav oozed sex appeal, paving the way for other big-boned MCs like the Notorious B.I.G., Fat Joe and Rick Ross to garner a female fanbase.
Heavy was also a noted dancer and paired each of his hits with well-choreographed steps. It's difficult to imagine where the likes of Soulja Boy and Cali Swag District would be without Heavy D's contributions.
On November 8, Heavy D left us, but his music will live on forever.

"Welcome to my nightmare."
Alice Cooper had a big impact on the impressionable mind of the young Doctor Gash. One of my earliest, yet most personality molding television memories as a child was watching the infamous Alice Cooper episode of "The Muppet Show," which aired on March 28, 1978.
Although I was pushing just five years old and the details are a bit foggy, I seem to recall something like this: I shuffle in front of the sweet, sweet care-giving television set with its warm, welcoming glow and turn the dial (that's right, physically turn the dial) to the channel for "The Muppet Show." There weren't that many channels back then so even at five years old, I'm sure I could have handled it. I was gifted. And (almost certainly clad in footie pajamas and probably a Batman cape) I flop onto a bean bag chair, prepared for laughs and revelry from the harmless cast of puppets.

"Not bad for a human." Do you recognize that voice on the Verizon Droid commercials? That is the voice of a badass. That is the voice of Lance Henriksen. And "Not bad for a human" is not only one of the more memorable lines ever delivered by the man, whose career has spanned a veritable library of film, it's also the name of his biography. And a full biography it is.
Henriksen landed his first movie role in 1961 (that's 50 years ago, folks; can you say longevity?). He played the role of a Us Marine in the Tony Curtis film The Outsider. He was uncredited in the movie and only got the part because he was working as a set designer on the project at the time. Now, five decades later, he has amassed an amazing body of work that spans well over 100 films, a couple dozen television shows and numerous voice-over appearances.

Jennifer Garner’s latest feature film, Butter, might have some people a little bemused and confused by having at its central premise the sculpting of butter – I’d never heard of it before, myself – but it sounds like it does in fact have some potential, and the first clip from the film has been released, courtesy of The Playlist.
In the past few years, Garner’s been tending to stick to fairly light-hearted films, and if you’ve enjoyed her work in films like Arthur, The Invention of Lying, and Juno, then there’s a good chance that you’ll like her in Butter too.
The film has been scripted by newcomer Jason A. Micallef, and directed by Jim Field Smith (She’s Out Of My League), and has a terrific cast that includes Hugh Jackman (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Ty Burrell (TV’s Modern Family), Olivia Wilde (Cowboys & Aliens), Ashley Greene...

'The Dark Knight Rises' has moved from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles, and shooting has gotten underway sooner than expected. While I'm writing this, London is burning. I'm without words, as landmark buildings, double-decker buses, and theaters go up in flames. I just don't know what to say.
Of course, we had already seen pictures from the set, but it's still very cool to see a list of guest stars for the new season of Sesame Street. I see out ginger Jesse Tyler Ferguson listed, and I'm so glad his relationship with Justin Mikita didn't suffer any lasting harm once Elmo got handsy.

Previously on Torchwood, humans stopped dying, which was good for some people, but bad for other people. Good for: Guys who had minor heart attacks. Bad for: Guys who got blasted to smithereens.
Also bad for: Guys who were tired of watching Rex Matheson mouth-off and smash things. Somebody tried to take “Torchwood” out of Google, and so Captain Jack returned to earth to keep Gwen safe, which, of course, resulted in Gwen getting wrapped up in the most dangerous thing she’s been wrapped up in since the last time Captain Jack tried to keep her safe. Rhys called Jack “Captain Jack Bollocks,” which was funny. Rex took Torchwood hostage, which was not.

July is a good month. Next weekend we have the final Harry Potter outing, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,' a film that is getting stupendous reviews for acting, story line, action and special effects. The following weekend we have 'Captain America: The First Avenger,' which has a fabulous buzz and may be the best Marvel film of the year. And the following weekend there's 'Cowboys & Aliens,' which may or may not knock our socks off (we're in the Doubting Thomas camp right now). But we're getting carried away. Right now we want to share with you 13 new photos from 'Captain America,' just released by Paramount Pictures.
Most of the photos are stills from the film; there's a couple behind-the-scenes photos thrown in for good measure. They all whet our appetite for the Captain and his crew.

Today marks the last day of the first half of the year, and as per custom, it's time to look back and reflect on the best and worst of 2011 so far. We could easily fill a Top 25 Worst films, and in the first six months, it's much more difficult to judge degrees of suck than it is to value the merits of the handful of great films, so the measure of hostility will additionally be taken into account in ranking the Ten Worst.
The top ten films are also limited to theatrical releases, as well, which unfortunately excludes a film that's now available on iTunes that would have competed for the top spot on this list: Turkey Bowl. Track it down; it's only 62 minutes, and it may be the funniest 62 minutes of the year (check out Seth's review here, and Dan's review over at the Houston Press).

In what sounds like a foolhardy mash up of two Will Smith movies Cowboys and Aliens may not be as well known as your average Marvel comic book adaptation but it’s got some decent talent behind it, not least director Jon Favreau who is riding high on his very successful Iron Man films.
I have no familiarity with the source material and the concept doesn’t shiver any of my timbers but what’s keeping me interested is something that this new TV spot puts front and centre. Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell and Daniel Craig make up the main cast for Favreau’s film and they look pretty tasty in this little glimpse.
