Where were you when the Brat Pack took over Hollywood?
Core 1980s Brat Pack member Andrew McCarthy revisits his iconic teen past alongside his fellow “It” actors for documentary “Brats,” which McCarthy writes and directs. Reclaiming the term first coined in David Blum’s 1985 New York Magazine cover story, “Brats” unpacks the teen films — and their stars — of the ’80s that shaped a generation.
McCarthy’s former co-stars Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Lea Thompson, Timothy Hutton, and Jon Cryer are among those featured in the documentary. McCarthy says he had not previously seen most of his past colleagues for more than 30 years.
Notably, Molly Ringwald is not part of the doc, despite her discussions on the role of the Brat Pack in cinematic history. The actress previously cited that she was typecast because of the moniker, telling The Guardian that “darker roles” weren’t available to...

Lovers of 80s movies know the Brat Pack. The group of stars who graced the silver screen in films like Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and St. Elmos Fire were teen sensations and helped a generation grapple with coming-of-age issues in high school. Most have gone on to blossom into illustrious film careers, but they will always be remembered for their run in the 1980s film scene. While most also eventually bowed gracefully out of show business down the line, Andrew McCarthy was one member who had been out of the spotlight since the 90s.
Deadline is reporting that McCarthy will be rejoining his cohorts for the Hulu documentary titled Brats. McCarthy had written a memoir called Brat: An 80s story and has now written and directed the documentary that is currently in post-production. The film description reads, “McCarthy crisscrosses the country to meet up with some...

It all started with a pitch I received about Theranos in late 2013. As a correspondent at ABC News, I was working on a series with Diane Sawyer about exploding medical costs, and we were looking for solutions for our viewers. Theranos was pitched to me as a company that was creating something that could save our viewers money on blood testing: a full range of tests completed from a single drop of blood. When I started looking into it, there was no one independent who could really corroborate for me what I was being told. It didn’t seem like a gigantic red flag at this point, but it was in the back of my mind.
Suddenly, I started to see Elizabeth Holmes blowing up on the cover of magazines, and that really piqued my interest. I pitched the story internally at ABC News,...

“Moon Knight” has taken off with critics and superhero fans around the globe, raking in enormous numbers for Disney+ and Marvel Studios. As a result, the two studios are gearing up for a hardy Emmys campaign with the show in the limited series categories, especially following the success of “WandaVision,” which co-led the tally for all series with 23 nominations (winning three) last year. However, a tweet shared from Marvel Studios’ official Twitter account could throw a potential wrench in their campaign.
Created by Jeremy Slater, the entire promotional tour for “Moon Knight” had the two major studios referring to the show as a “limited series,” with the presumption this would be a standalone television outing for the Marvel Comics character. However, on Monday, Marvel’s official Twitter page shared the trailer for today’s final episode, referring to it as “the epic series finale,” but the tweet was taken down...

Julia Garner’s Anna Delvey isn’t the only unique accent making its debut in a fictionalized adaptation of real-world con-artistry, as Hulu has unveiled a first look at Amanda Seyfried as Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in the upcoming limited series “The Dropout.”

Amanda Seyfried will play disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s “The Dropout,” replacing Kate McKinnon.
McKinnon, who is in the middle of Season 46 of “Saturday Night Live,” left the series earlier this year amid scheduling issues. Seyfried will also serve as a producer.
“The Dropout” tells the story of how Holmes raised hundreds of millions of dollars to fund Theranos and became a media darling, while hiding the fact that her touted blood-testing machine didn’t really work. Holmes dropped out of Stanford to found the company, which at one point was valued at $9 billion, with Holmes being heralded as the next Steve Jobs (she even wore the same signature black turtleneck).
The series is based on an ABC News podcast of the same name. ABC News’ Rebecca Jarvis, who hosted the audio series, will executive produce, along with Taylor Dunn and Victoria Thompson. Showrunner Elizabeth Meriwether, Liz Heldens,...

Amanda Seyfried has signed on to play Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in the Hulu series “The Dropout.”
Seyfried takes over the role from Kate McKinnon, whose exit from the project was reported in February. The series tells the story of Holmes, the enigmatic Stanford dropout who founded medical testing start-up Theranos. She was lauded as a Steve Jobs for the next tech generation. Once worth billions of dollars, the myth crumbled when it was revealed that none of the tech actually worked, putting thousands of people’s health in grave danger.
Holmes’ scam was so successful, that Theranos was at one time valued at nine-billion dollars, making her one of the richest women in the world. She was indicted by a federal jury in 2018, along with the former Theranos chief operating officer, on nine counts of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Kate McKinnon has stepped away from Hulu’s “The Dropout,” the upcoming miniseries based on the podcast of the same name about disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes.
McKinnon first signed on to star in and executive produce the project in April 2019.
Hulu didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
“The Dropout” tells the story of how Holmes raised hundreds of millions to fund Theranos and became a media darling, while hiding the fact that her touted blood-testing machine didn’t really work. Hulu’s “The Dropout” will be going ahead without Kate McKinnon, who was set to star in and executive produce the story of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and her dramatic fall from grace.
The limited drama series will now look to cast a new actor to play the entrepreneur before the planned summer production start.
The series is based on ABC Radio and ABC News’ podcast about the disgraced inventor, who dropped out of Stanford to found Theranos. The company invented the Edison machine, a diagnostic tool that promised an easy way to test for 200 diseases. But the machine didn’t work as she claimed, though she lured wealthy investors including Betsy DeVos and Rupert Murdoch.

Hulu is eyeing a series order for “The Dropout,” a limited series about Elizabeth Holmes, with Kate McKinnon set to play the disgraced tech whiz, Variety has learned.
The prospective show, based on the ABC Radio and ABC News podcast about Holmes, would hail from Fox Searchlight TV, with McKinnon also on board as an executive producer.
The title refers to the fact Holmes dropped out of Stanford to found Theranos, a company which invented the Edison machine, a revolutionary diagnostic tool that promised to give patients a cheap way to test their blood for 200 diseases at their local drug store with just a finger-prick.
However, the machine did not work as Holmes claimed, and her lies allowed her to reap a fortune from investors, and even appear on the front cover of Fortune magazine. Wealthy investors who fell for Holmes’ scheme and poured money into the company include Betsy DuVos and Rupert Murdock.
