Sasquatch Sunset directors Nathan and David Zellner always wondered what these hairy giants do when they’re not walking – the only Bigfoot footage available has been a minute of a supposed Sasquatch wandering in the northern California woods. They decided to flesh that out in unique dialogue-free comedic imagining of the creatures’ daily life – eating, fighting, etc. Stars Jesse Eisenberg, Riley Keough, Christophe Zajac-Denek and Nathan Zellner are unrecognizable as the hairy tribe of four that entranced Sundance (see Deadline review). Bleecker Street is opening the film, written by David Zellner, executive produced by Ari Aster, in 9 theaters in New York, LA, San Francisco and Austin, ahead of a big jump to about 800 screens next week.

Writer/Director Kiah Roache-Turner wears his influences on his sleeves in the throwback creature feature Sting. A mysterious object from outer space crashes into a New York apartment amidst a raging blizzard, where the mysterious spider inside it is discovered by a girl named Charlotte. Charlotte dubs her new pet Sting, unaware that it’s not from Earth and comes with an insatiable appetite for human flesh. As the spider’s reign of terror increases, so does Roache-Turner’s commitment to capturing the mayhem through stunning practical creature effects, which makes this film worth the price of admission.
It’s not just the spider’s pet name, derived from The Hobbit, or the effects by the 5-time Academy Award® Winner Wētā Workshop, led by Creative Director Richard Taylor, that calls the work of Peter Jackson to mind here. It’s also the film’s sense of humor, from the opening...

Comedian Harry Deansway’s infringement case against Steve Coogan’s production company Baby Cow is going to trial, Variety can confirm.
Numerous attempts to reach an out of court settlement collapsed and a trial date has been tentatively set for Oct. 2024.
Deansway, whose real name is Joshua Rinkoff, filed suit against Baby Cow last year in the U.K. High Court, claiming that the prodco’s head of comedy Rupert Majendie had copied the format of his YouTube show “Shambles” to develop the stand-up series “Live at the Moth Club.”
Majendie is the creator of “Live at the Moth Club,” which aired on UKTV in December 2022, and is also credited as an executive producer and director.
“It is extremely disappointing that my friend Rupert Majendie, head of comedy at Steve Coogan’s Baby Cow should have copied my original work like this without so much as courtesy call,” Deansway told Variety in a statement.

The films up for the 2024 Best Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar are “Golda,” “Maestro,” “Oppenheimer,” “Poor Things,” and “Society of the Snow.” Our current odds show that “Maestro” (10/3) is favored to win, followed in order by “Poor Things” (71/20), “Oppenheimer” (9/2), “Society of the Snow” (9/2), and “Golda” (9/2).
This lineup is the category’s second in a row to include a 54% first-timer majority, thus constituting a new trend after 70% remained the norm for the preceding half decade. The present rookie subset consists of “Golda” trio Suzi Battersby, Karen Hartley Thomas, and Ashra Kelly-Blue as well as one artist from each other film: Luisa Abel (“Oppenheimer”), Ana López-Puigcerver (“Society of the Snow”), Lori McCoy-Bell (“Maestro”), and Josh Weston (“Poor Things”).
McCoy-Bell and Weston share their respective nominations with Kazu Hiro and Mark Coulier, each of whom succeeded on two of his previous four outings. While Coulier won for “The Iron Lady” (2012) and “The Grand Budapest Hotel...

Pathé has defended its 2022 film “The Lost King” — starring Steve Coogan and produced by his company Baby Cow Productions — after legal action was launched by the one of the real-life characters it depicts.
Richard Taylor, a former deputy registrar at the U.K.’s University of Leicester, is suing Coogan, alongside his BBC Studios-owned Baby Cow, and Pathé Productions over his depiction in the feature, which chronicles the story of how the remains of British monarch King Richard III were eventually discovered in Leicester in 2012.
On Thursday, Taylor’s lawyer told London’s High Court that the character based on him (played by Lee Ingleby) was “dismissive, patronising and misogynistic” toward the historian Philippa Langley (Sally Hawkins), according to the BBC.
“Ms Langley is portrayed as the gutsy underdog heroine struggling against opposition and the claimant as the arrogant villain,” wrote Taylor’s lawyer. “He not only takes steps to...

Sure, 28 Oscar nominations and 17 wins aren’t to be sniffed at. But the remarkable thing about Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy is that it should have been nominated for more. Only one of the cast was nominated for an Oscar across all three films — that was for Best Supporting Actor for Sir Ian McKellen in 2002 for “The Fellowship of the Ring” — while there were a few other curious snubs that, in hindsight, just don’t make sense. So, there was actually more room to nominate this rightly-heralded trilogy of astounding films. With that in mind, here are five more Oscar nominations “The Lord of the Rings” should have landed.
Best Original Score: “The Two Towers”
The music of “The Lord of the Rings” has gone down as one of the best scores ever committed to film. Howard Shore‘s adored score is so top drawer it leaves you clamoring for more.

No, this is not clickbait. Actually, due to the (very) slow development tempo of Fcp (Final Cut Pro), many Fcp editors, fans, and enthusiasts, were concerned that the Fcp will end like Aperture, which means Eol is close. Luckily, Apple’s Fcp team confirmed that this is not the case.
Apple Final Cut Pro. (Desktop and iPad). Fcp is moving slowly
This is not a secret that Fcp’s R&d is moving like a turtle. Furthermore, when comparing it to the competitors.. well…there’s nothing to be compared, as Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve (the main contenders to Fcp) release every new and major update almost every month on the clock. Premiere Pro has its own dedicated product development Beta cycle and roadmap, which pushes releases like hotcakes in order to boost R&d. And in the other corner, the Blackmagic team is working insanely fast and efficiently...

In 2004, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” became the film with joint-most Oscar wins of all time with a whopping 11 victories, matching the total tallies of both “Titanic” and “Ben-Hur.” Those 11 Academy Awards capped off a hugely successful trilogy of movies that collectively snagged 28 Oscar nominations and 17 wins in total. But yet… Peter Jackson‘s film series, adapted from the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, is so, so good that, well, it could have won more. That sounds greedy and over the top, of course, but if you take a look at each film’s nominations, it’s actually very feasible that any one of the three films could have turned the bid into a win. So, with that in mind, here are five Oscar nominations that “The Lord of the Rings” films could and perhaps should have turned into victories.

New Line’s new animated movie, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, is moving from its April 12, 2024 release date to Dec. 13 next year.
The move stems from a chain-reaction of Warner Bros re-dating today, spurred by Legendary Entertainment’s Dune: Part Two going from Nov. 3 this year to March 15, 2024, which then pushed that financier and producer’s other title, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire from that date to April 12, 2024. Dune: Part Two had to move had to shift on account of the unavailability of its cast to promote during the actors strike.
War of the Rohirrim will now face off on its new December date against Sony’s reboot of The Karate Kid.
The anime feature, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original New Line Lord of the Rings trilogy. Those Peter Jackson movies, in addition to his Hobbit trilogy,...

A new creature feature from New Zealand filmmaker Scott Walker (The Frozen Ground), The Tank is coming to select theaters April 21, followed by Digital on April 25.
Set in the 1970s, The Tank is about a young family who unwittingly awakens creatures at their recently inherited coastal property. Academy Award-winning special effects supervisor and creative director Richard Taylor (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Krampus, Braindead) and his team at SFX studio Wētā Workshop are behind the film’s practical creature effects.
Ahead of the film’s release, Bloody Disgusting spoke with Walker and Taylor about bringing these creatures to life.
Walker explains where his throwback creature feature began, “It was during Covid when I wrote this, and I wanted it set in 1978 as a nod to a simpler time. That was about a year into Covid, and nobody knew what was going to happen. We had been displaced around the world,...

Writer/Director Scott Walker (The Frozen Ground) evokes the ’80s creature feature for his sophomore film, The Tank. A simple, self-contained premise serves as the foundation for a creature effects showcase. While unique creature design and effects by Weta Workshop make for a compelling centerpiece, the simplistic storytelling undermines it by undercutting the tension and stakes.
Ben (Matt Whelan) and his wife, Jules (Lucianne Buchanan), run a small but bustling pet shop that doubles as daughter Reia’s (Zara Nausbaum) playground. Jules’s extensive knowledge of animals might come in handy when Ben learns that he’s inherited coastal property that has sat uninhabited like a dark family secret for decades. As the family travels to the estate to investigate and explore Ben’s inheritance, they unwittingly wake a long-dormant threat that’s terrorized the land and Ben’s ancestors for generations.

Bloody Disgusting has been told that one of the themes throughout the film is the clash between masculine and feminine values. This led to Regina Hegemann’s casting as The Creature.

“Jim’s vision was always so much bigger than what we created for the first film.”
Visual effects studio Weta Digital have announced it has begun work on the four Avatar sequels.
The Oscar-winning New Zealand-based facility created by Peter Jackson, Richard Taylor, and Jamie Selkirk worked on the original film, which grossed $2.7bn at the worldwide box office.
Joe Letteri is the current director of Weta Digital.
James Cameron said in a statement: “What Joe Letteri and Weta Digital bring to these stories is impossible to quantify. Since we made Avatar, Weta continued to prove themselves as doing the best CG animation, the most human, the most alive, the most photo-realistic effects in the world. .Let.s create an iconic Hairy that no one will ever forget,. Taylor said. To play the character named Jarli the Bindawu warrior, the producers cast Clarence Ryan, who first worked for Goalpost as a teenager in the children.s series Lockie Leonard 10 years ago. He played Egg, Lockie.s best friend.
Jarli is one of several new characters which make the sequel .bolder, even bigger and better and more compelling as we put the characters under even more pressure,. Blight told If.
Directed by Wayne Blair and Leah Purcell, the six-part futuristic sci-fi drama co-produced by Goalpost and New Zealand.s Pukeko Pictures premieres at 9.30 pm on June 29 on the ABC and at 10 pm on June 28 on Sundance TV in the Us..
The story picks up with the destruction of the Zone and the Hairy people splitting up as they hide around the city in fear for their lives. Koen (Hunter Page-Lochard), the chosen Cleverman, sets out to harness his powers in hopes of bringing all the cultures together..
His half-brother Waruu (Rob Collins) shares the same vision but his methods are dubious. For Koen to realize his mission, he must defeat Waruu and the full force of the government..
The writers are Jane Allen, Stuart Page, Justine Juel Gillmer, the series creator Ryan Griffen and Jada Alberts.
Among the new characters, Luke Ford plays Dolan, who forms a relationship with Nerida (Alberts), while Taylor Ferguson (Strangerland) is Audie. Blight predicts Ferguson is destined to become a star in the Us.

In his role as emcee of all things geeky, former Mythbuster/current Tested host Adam Savage released a new video of his visit to the props department of the upcoming Ghost In The Shell live action adaptation. The film’s impressive props were created by Weta Workshop, the New Zealand company famous for its work on the Lord Of The Rings franchise. And Weta founder/creative director Richard Taylor is on hand to talk Savage through the creation of the film’s robotic geishas, which were featured in the most recent trailer.
What comes through most clearly during the tour is just how much attention Weta pays to detail. That includes both the aesthetics of the designs as well as their functionality. For instance, the rigid, robotic geisha masks were designed to be as comfortable as possible for the actors wearing them. They can be taken off easily so the...

Adam Savage Visits Weta to Show Us Some Cool Ghost In The Shell Geisha Props and Animatronic Puppets
Adam Savage was invited to Weta Workshop to check out some of the awesome work that they did for the upcoming adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. While there he talked to Weta's Richard Taylor, who showed off what they came up with for the creepy robotic geisha that we've seen in the trailers. What's so cool about these is that they are all practical effects and props with mechanical geisha masks and animatronic puppets! It also shows how Weta Workshop used new fabrication and design technologies to make these props possible.
I love seeing this kind of stuff! Weta has done some incredibly cool work here, and I think you're gonna like what they have to show off. After seeing the stuff in this video I want to see even more of the creative work they did for the film! ...

So far, reactions to the first full trailer have been slightly mixed though they’re definitely leaning more towards positive, and after watching it several times, we can say that we’re definitely happy with what we see.

Where Assassin’s Creed may look to change things for the video game movie genre, Ghost in the Shell may very well do the same for the anime-to-live-action genre. Bold words? Quite possibly. The film was in development for some years, and as soon as it gained some momentum, it became controversial over the casting of white actress Scarlett Johansson for the role of Motoko (a.k.a. Major). Setting aside any quibbles one may have about that, however, everything we’ve seen thus far.
During the season finale of Mr. Robot, the studio threw in a handful of 15-second teasers. While these teasers didn’t do much to whet the appetite of those looking for some exposure to the narrative, it did give some extra insight into the visuals we could be expecting. In many ways, the shots looked like they were ripped directly from the anime.

Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures have released the first photo of Scarlett Johansson as Major in their co-production live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. Shooting has started in Wellington, New Zealand, and the press release came with this official synopsis:
Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “Ghost In The Shell” follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.
