The Transporter: Refueled is stupid, stupid, stupid — and it certainly knows it. You might even chuckle contentedly at its knowing silliness — that’s sort of what this low-rent franchise is here for — but you’ll also miss Jason Statham, whose deadpan self-awareness somehow legitimized the ridiculousness of the previous films. Statham, as some may already know, departed the series over a contract dispute; they wanted to make more movies and pay him less, so he (rightly) bailed. Maybe the faint vestige of his spirit is all that’s needed: The new film gets by to some extent on the good will carried over from the earlier films, and most of that good will was due to the now-absent star. This time out, mysterious transporter Frank Taylor — he drives secret, high-value merchandise from place to place in his slick Audi, no questions asked — is played by the younger British actor...

The Canadian (photo: Thomas Meighan in The Canadian) Thomas Meighan is The Star of William Beaudine’s The Canadian (1926), which screened at the 2012 San Francisco Silent Film Festival. The credits feature his name far above everyone else’s. The basic story of The Canadian, scenario by Arthur Stringer from the 1913 W. Somerset Maugham play The Land of Promise, is similar in theme to Victor Sjöström’s later film The Wind (1928), but without the wind tempest and the murder. Instead, The Canadian concentrates on characterizations. After her rich aunt dies, stuffy, uptight Nora (Mona Palma) travels from London to a wheat farm owned by her brother (Wyndham Standing) in Calgary. She looks down with disdain at the simple, rustic life he lives in the country, with his wife, Gertie (Dale Fuller), and farm hands — especially the independent-minded Frank Taylor (Thomas Meighan). The Canadian starts out as an unpredictable and engaging tale.

A major player has been added to the new Fox dino-drama, Terra Nova, as New Zealander Simone Kessell joins the time-traveling refugees as Alicia Washington.
The pilot had to be reshot, according to the latest from Deadline, with Kessell in the role of Washington, the Terra Nova colony’s second-in-command.
It takes the right type of person to stand out against Steven Lang, who plays compound commander Frank Taylor, but Kessell, with appearances on Fringe, Reaper, Underbelly, and CSI: Miami, is no stranger to the small screen so she should be able to hold her own.
Kessell isn’t the only new member of the Terra Nova team either, with Ashley Zukerman and Emelia Burns also joining the cast.

Entertainment Weekly, Steven Spielberg, and Fox are deeply concerned about your well being when it comes to being around dinosaurs, and as a result, they've partnered to bring you an exclusive trio of safety conscious posters related to the new series "Terra Nova". Dig 'em!

As we have already discussed, Terra Nova will be appearing at Comic-Con in San Diego this July. The show’s panel will take place on Saturday, July 23, and Fox just announced the panel guests that will appear will be:
Actor Stephen Lang, who plays Frank Taylor (Avatar, Public Enemies)
Producer Jose Molina (Without a Trace, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dark Angel, Law and Order Svu)
Producer Rene Echevarria (The 4400, Star Trek DS9, Medium)
Producer Brannon Braga (24, Star Trek various, Flash Forward)
Wait…that’s it? No Jason O’Mara? We knew better than to expect Spielberg, but we can hope that perhaps he might make a surprise “drop in” appearance at the last minute. I bet a nickel that a few more cast and crew members will sign up at the last minute. Also, everyone knows, it is not the best idea to show all your cards, it’s best to keep people guessing.

Quaritch almighty, it's been a good long while since we've seen any dinosaurs in the movie theaters. And the more we think about it, the more we confront our crippling fear of mortality with the notion that Jurassic Park came out almost twenty f$%king years ago.
Manic self-deprecation aside, the latest trailer for Fox's upcoming sci-fi epic Terra Nova arrived in movie theaters this weekend, as part of the network's efforts to spare no expense in promotion. Already, the series pilot alone costs over ten million dollars, and had its release date pushed back twice to Fall 2011 over concerns of mastering the effects.
The new trailer offers up a more in-depth look at the world of Terra Nova, from some new scenic imagery, to new dinosaurs, and even a taste of the time-travel series plot, as we learn that Jason O'Mara (Life on Mars)'s Jim Shannon may take...

It's been a while since we mentioned Fox TV's upcoming "Terra Nova" from the Stephen Spielberg camp as its horror connection is admittedly light, but considering it's Spielberg plus dinosaurs with the great Stephen Lang thrown in for good measure, we figured our readers would be interested in the latest bit of news to hit the Net regarding the show.
Variety learned that "Terra Nova" will launch in the fall of 2011, not in May as previously announced. The show was originally set to debut with two one-hour episodes as a sneak peek.
The network was hoping to air the first hour of the two-hour pilot May 23 behind the season finale of "House," and the second hour May 24 behind the final performance show of "American Idol." That strategy worked well for "Glee," which premiered after an episode of "Idol" in 2009 and became a monumental hit.

He's 58 years old and has been working steadily since the mid-1980s, but Stephen Lang still managed to land a leading role in one of the most cutting-edge films of the new millennium, playing the two-fisted Col. Miles Quaritch in James Cameron's "Avatar."
Lang can next be seen as Commander Frank Taylor, leader of an expeditionary force tasked with colonizing Earth's distant past, in "Terra Nova," the upcoming Fox series from executive producer Steven Spielberg. It premieres in the fall (the two-hour pilot was initially set to air in May, but citing the time needed to polish the visual effects, Fox decided to wait).

There may be some unreasonable expectations placed on the shoulders of Terra Nova, the new Fox show about a family that travels back in time to a prehistoric colony. Steven Spielberg's name is in the credits and the show features time travel and dinosaurs, so there is a natural tendency to expect it to somehow stack up against his theatrical efforts. So check out this new teaser for the show, which shows Stephen Lang in full-on bearded leader mode, but more importantly gives a very toothy peek into the maw of one of the show's dinosaurs. The CGI beast runs by pretty fast in this clip, but it looks great, especially for a TV creation. Having grown up in the days when the best we could expect from TV was a handful of model shots used over and over again, and a lot of chunky Cylon and Dalek costumes,...

Amongst all the big, blockbustery fare unleashed during the Superbowl ad breaks, the trailer for Steven Spielberg's TV spectacle Terra Nova was on hand to give a taster of what's ahead on the small screen. Splicing the sci-fi DNA of Battlestar Galactica, Lost and Jurassic Park - or Timecop directed by Ray Mears - Terra Nova kicks in the year 2149, with the Earth ruined by humanity’s mistreatment of the environment. In search of new beginnings and a kinder, gentler way of life, the Shannon family are sent 85 million years back to prehistoric times to a settlement lead by Stephen Lang's charismatic hard-ass Frank Taylor. Can you spot the potential problem? It's idyllic - the series is shot in Queensland - and the dinosaurs are naturally Spielberg grade. Making a successful television series is one part tapping in to the pop culture zeitgeist, two parts quality storytelling…and about ten parts luck.
Steven Spielberg's influence can definitely be seen in the new Fox series Terra Nova, footage for which the network debuted during yesterday's Super Bowl. To that extent, it seems the series has nailed the first important element: it demonstrates the public's long standing fascination with science fiction, adventure…and dinosaurs, combined in ways that harken back to contemporary motion pictures like Avatar and Jurassic Park…and past series like Earth II or The Lost World. Some will remember when the Comic-Con panel for Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova was cancelled last summer, leaving fanboys yearning for a first look. Well now we have it. Fox has released the first photos from the Spielberg-produced sci-fi / time travel television series.
The series focusses on a 22ns-century family who are sent back in time 150 million years to the prehistoric age, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. The series was written by Craig Silverstein and Kelly Marcel, based on Marcel’s story idea. Terra Nova is set to have a sneak preview in May followed by the official series premiere later this fall. All four new photos courtesy of Spoiler TV.

Below are the first stills from the Steven Spielberg-produced Fox TV series Terra Nova. Life On Mars's Jason Mara is obviously hoping for a better end-result in this new Sf outing about a future family who find themselves sent back to the prehistoric age and set among ravenous dinosaurs. Kelly Marcel came up with the core idea and shares co-writing credits with Craig Silverstein. The show also features Avatar's Stephen Lang and 17 Again's Allison Miller.
The initial episode is directed by Alex Graves (The Whole Truth, Fringe, Journeyman), and will premiere in May 2011, but the usual 'pilot' stage has been eschewed due to the prohibitive cost of rebuilding the sets upon approval (and, one would guess, because the commercial legitimacy of Terra Nova is vouch-safed by the Spielberg stamp). In effect the May showing will, however, act as a pilot, since the show itself won't air until the autumn.

Remember that classic scene in Thank You For Smoking, when Aaron Eckhart’s deliciously slimy tobacco lobbyist Nick Naylor pitches a sexy, cigarette-plugging scene for an upcoming movie? He envisions the world’s two most attractive stars making love, before each lights up a post-coital cigarette. The Tourist, a new thriller starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie – oft cited as the two most desirable people on the planet – could have brought Naylor’s vision to life; it certainly has the beauteous leads and more than enough cigarettes to go around, yet incredibly, it fails to be at all sexy, fun, or exciting.
Elise (Jolie) is a mysterious woman romantically involved with an international fugitive, Alexander Pearce, who owes vast sums of cash to a very dangerous group of gangsters. When she receives a letter from him, requesting that she find a man of similar physical presence...

2010 is coming to an end and with it, we have a slew of Oscar hopefuls the month of December. My current favorite film of the year is hitting, as well as one film that could easily usurp them all. This final month has your usual kiddie fare as well, but something about the trilogy to avoid this month is uniquely depressing. Check out all my picks below and please see the next page for matinees, as there were a lot of close calls barely missing the Top 10. There will also be a lot of limited releases from last month expanding, so check out that list. Also, many of the films below will likely not reach your city until January, so check out the specific distributors site for a heads up.

Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova has been experiencing a seemingly uneven pace in the show’s development thus far. The sci-fi, time-traveling series was originally to be featured at Comic-Con, but that presentation was canceled and the show launch date was delayed to the fall of 2011 in order to give it an “unique launch to distinguish that the show is unlike any other.” The show also lost David Fury from the producer team, but Brannon Braga held his position as showrunner.
What’s the news for the series now? The show has recently secured actors for a few key roles to complete its ensemble cast and now has had to suffer lay-offs in the writing staff. 20th Century Fox Television was forced to lay off most of the writing staff, including Chris Brancato (X-Files), to cut expenses back due to the change in scheduling of the show’s launch. I really like this trailer. There's something about it, some mysterious undercurrents that it's barely hinting at, but they're there and it's making me more and more excited for this movie. A second new trailer for the Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck directed spy thriller The Tourist, with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, has debuted online (via SlashFilm). It's only 60 seconds long compared to the first teaser trailer that was over 2 minutes long. The Muse song makes a difference, but it's also Depp's acting, because I can sense there's more layers to this guy, more that we don't know about, and it's a joy to watch him. Check this out! Watch the second new trailer for Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's The Tourist: An action thriller that revolves around Frank Taylor (Johnny Depp), an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. It all started when he met a woman. Sony Pictures / Columbia Pictures has debuted the official poster for their upcoming holiday dramatic thriller The Tourist starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, seen together on the poster. We already saw the trailer for this a few weeks ago and it was only recently added to the release calendar in December later this year, so Sony has a lot to do to build up the marketing in only a few months. This poster is rather simple, with nothing but the two recognizable faces of Depp & Jolie mixed together and that's it. There's not much to say about this, but I thought a few of you would enjoy seeing it. If you haven't seen the official trailer, you can watch it here. We'll keep you updated on its release this fall. An action thriller that revolves around Frank Taylor (Johnny Depp), an American...

The first trailer for spy drama The Tourist, starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, has arrived online.Giving off a vibe similar to Knight & Day (experienced spy picks up hapless American citizen and takes them on a dangerous journey), the movie is actually based on French thriller Anthony Zimmer and was crafted by The Lives of Others director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, who really should be renting his name out to Bond villains.Jolie is Elise, a beautiful international espionage expert who just happens to cross paths with heartbroken, out-of-his-depth Us tourist Frank Taylor. Of course, it’s not quite that simple: Elise has targeted Frank exactly because he looks like a notorious criminal.Ang can do this stuff in her sleep, but the trailer shows what looks like a fun mix of romp and real stakes, with Depp channelling a touch of his kooky vibe for Frank as he...

Sony has finally debuted the official trailer (on Yahoo) for their highly anticipated winter film The Tourist starring both Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp as two "mysterious" individuals, as well as Paul Bettany, Rufus Sewell and Timothy Dalton. This is Sony's sneaky sleeper hit release that they recently scheduled for December, but it looks like it might be quite good, even though it does look like a Hollywood blockbuster. I like the look of the whole film, Depp looks like he might be better than ever before, and I know there's going to be some interesting twists and turns. Fox’s Terra Nova has lost producer David Fury (24, Lost). Fury was one of the prominent producers signed on to develop the prehistoric family drama with Steven Spielberg (Robopocalypse, Super 8), Brannon Braga (FlashForward, 24), Peter Chernin (Incognito, Rise of the Apes), Aaron Kaplan, Jon Cassar (Motorcade, 24), and Katherine Pope.
Fury supposedly left the project due to “creative differences” while working on the script with Brannon Braga. Braga still retains the showrunner position for Terra Nova. There will not be a replacement for Fury. A source close to the show says:
“[Fury] was beloved by the producers on the show, but it just didn’t work out.”
On the other hand, Stephen Lang (pictured above) who played the baddie in James Cameron’s Avatar, is eye-balling the lead opposite Jason O’Mara. Lang had been courted for the role earlier, but his scheduling with other feature projects (Conan) prevented him from pursuing the role until now.

Fox’s Steven Spielberg produced “Terra Nova” TV series has lost a producer in David Fury, but it might just gain a major cast addition in “Avatar’s” Stephen Lang. From Deadline: Avatar co-star Stephen Lang is eyeing time travel in the opposite direction. I hear Lang, who played the baddie in James Cameron’s futuristic sci-fi tale, is in talks for the lead opposite Jason O’Mara on Fox’s prehistoric drama series Terra Nova. He was an early favorite for the role but his feature commitments (Conan) prevented him from pursuing it until he just became available and received an offer from the Terra Nova producers. (A fun footnote: Terra Nova was originally set in 2149, just 5 years before the events in Avatar.) Lang would play the role of Frank Taylor, the charismatic and ruthless leader of the Terra Nova settlement. Alex Graves is set to direct the pilot for the series.

According to Deadline's moles, Avatar baddie Stephen Lang is in talks to take on the part of Terra Nova baddie Frank Taylor, the military man in command of the human fort set up 85 million ago in the past.
Deadline also reports that David Fury, staff writer on Buffy, Angel and Firefly, has left the Terra Nova team. Read the comments section on Deadline and it's rumored that Fury couldn't get along with Brannon Braga, though that's just hearsay and speculation from anonymous web people. He's a career soldier, things are done his way or no way. Taylor may be more extreme in his belief, as he's led a military coup and ousted the general...
