Nick Tate, born to Neva Carr Glyn and John Tate, played the part of Alan Carter in
Space: 1999 (1975) which ran from 1975 to 1977, appearing in 42 of the 48 episodes. He received the AACTA Award for Best Lead Actor for his performance in
The Devil's Playground (1976) (1976). In the 1980s he played the role of James Hamilton in Australian soap opera
Sons and Daughters (1982). Elsewhere on TV, Tate appeared in most episodes of
Holiday Island (1981) (1981-82) and all episodes of
Open House (1989) (1989-90). He also appeared in the films
Cry Freedom (1987) and
Return from the River Kwai (1989).
