Doctor Who season 15 comes to Blu-ray, with Horror Of Fang Rock leading the six-story collection. More here.
Never mind the fact that the entirety of Doctor Who – well, save for an episode or two – is available to watch on the BBC’s iPlayer service. There’s also the not-so-small matter of Doctor Who physical media releases, which continue thanks to the genuinely brilliant line of Blu-ray sets.
Next in line? Some Tom Baker magic, thanks to series 15 of Doctor Who becoming the subject of the latest set. This one runs to seven discs, dating all the way back to 1977, and includes the following stories…
Horror Of Fang Rock
The Invisible Enemy
Image Of The Fendahl
The Sun Makers
Underworld
The Invasion Of Time
Tom Baker is accompanied by Louise Jameson’s Leela in these tales, and we also get the introduction of K9 in there too. Plus, of course, Horror...

If Doctor Who fans ever felt hard done by during any of the show’s previous big anniversaries then the 60th is here to soothe spirits, hand out cherished gifts, and generally make a bloody big hair-ruffling fuss of the lot of us.
First came news of David Tennant and Catherine Tate’s return in three anniversary specials, then came the ‘roughly 8 million episodes of Doctor Who are coming to BBC iPlayer on November 1’ announcement, then they brought back Doctor Who Confidential under a different name, and now…
…three Classic era Doctors are returning alongside eight former Doctor Who Companions (plus The Sarah Jane Adventures’ Clyde Langer) for new series Tales of the Tardis.
New Scenes, Classic Who Cast
Not a behind-the-scenes documentary, and not standalone adventures, the six-part series will pair up the stars of classic Who acting in new scenes together, in character, wrapped around episodes from six existing serials.

Fathom Events and BBC Studios have come together to put one of Doctor Who‘s most classic stories on the big screen for the first time ever.
We are, of course, talking about 1981’s “Logopolis,” which is historic in the annals of Whovian history for being the final story of legendary Time Lord Tom Baker, who portrayed the Fourth Doctor for a whopping seven years before he passed the key to the Tardis onto Fifth Doctor Peter Davison in this adventure.
Tickets are on sale now for the one-night only event that takes place on March 13th. This “one-of-a-kind” screening, as Fathom’s official website puts it, features the original four-part story edited into a 100-minute movie. As well as the story itself, the screening will also feature a special, brand new interview with Baker and companions Janet Fielding (Tegan) and Sarah Sutton (Nyssa).

Don't miss the chance to see Classic Who episode "Logopolis" on the big screen with other Doctor Who fans.
There's nothing like watching a classic episode of Doctor Who on the big screen. It's not just about seeing something you love given the big-screen treatment; it's about sharing the experience with a bunch of other Whovians.
Fathom Events, known for bringing fan favorite TV shows to the big screen for special events, just announced they will be screening Tom Baker's final Doctor Who adventure, "Logopolis," for the first time ever. Baker, who played the Fourth Doctor, is arguably the most iconic of the Classic Doctors, and is the most familiar to American audiences, who mostly first encountered Who on public television.
The 100-minute story will come to U.S. theaters on March 13th at 7 p.m. local time. The Classic Doctor Who episode also features companion...

The current Tardis team consists of the fantastic four – Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor and her pals Graham (Bradley Walsh), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Yaz (Mandip Gill). They have great chemistry together, but having to juggle four leads has proven to be a bit of an issue over the course of Doctor Who season 11, which just wrapped this evening with an underwhelming finale.
This is an age-old problem for the show, though. Back in the early 1980s, the Fifth Doctor was also accompanied by three companions – Australian air hostess Tegan (Janet Fielding), alien teen prodigy Adric (Matthew Waterhouse) and gentle, smart Nyssa (Sarah Sutton). The foursome’s adventures have now been re-released on Blu-Ray and one of the special features sees Peter Davison laying bare his feelings about his era of Doctor Who.
Among other things, the actor revealed that he thinks having four characters in the Tardis makes the time machine too crowded.

For a very long time, Tom Baker was the iconic Doctor. With his striking scarf, twinkling eyes and anti-authoritarian demeanor, the Fourth Doctor has gone on to influence the character more than almost any other. The Doctor Who revival series can’t seem to resist referencing him, either, whether it be folks donning his iconic scarf, references to Jelly Babies or simply having him pop up as the mysterious Curator in the 50th anniversary special.
Despite this love, fans have been waiting a pretty damn long time to see Tom Baker’s final season – season 18 – hit Blu-ray. Broadcast from August 30th, 1980 to March 21st, 1981, it’s an especially interesting season because it marks a transition period for the series as it switched showrunners from Graham Williams to John Nathan-Turner, thus setting the tone of the show from then until its cancellation in the late 80s.

Ah, the mighty Peter Davison. The Fifth Doctor, All Creatures Great And Small, Campion, and living in a house with Freddy from Rainbow are just some of the topics we chatted to him about, ahead of the publication of his terrific autobiography, Is There Life Outside The Box.
We’ve got a fair bit to get through, so without further ado….
I got a sense you thoroughly enjoyed writing this book, once you were over some initial research-y hurdles. Would that be fair?
Yeah, that’s fair. It was kind of a journey, really. A reassembling. I’ve had these memories, and it was really a chance to put them down on paper and order them. Everything fragments as you get older, and things come out,...

The Doctor Who series 8 disc release features a wealth of bonus material including the terrific Earth Conquest doc. Here's Pete's verdict...
If you’re reading this review, then there’s a good chance that you’ve both seen the twelve episodes that make up Peter Capaldi’s debut series and know exactly what we’re going to say about them. Series 8 of Doctor Who has been hailed by many as the best in several years, and one of the best since the show’s revival in 2005. It’s a verdict that we here at Den of Geek find it hard to argue with, frankly. From the light-hearted opener Deep Breath to the action-packed and slightly bonkers finale Death In Heaven, with thought-provoking episodes like Listen and Kill The Moon along the way, Series 8 has been a confident start to a brand new era for the world’s longest-running sci-fi programme.

So the Big Finish monthly releases for April, May, and June all formed a very loose trilogy where each story focused on one of the Doctor’s companions. I figured since they all fit together naturally, I’d review them all together, so here we go!
Starring: Peter Davison (the Doctor), Mark Strickson (Turlough), Janet Fielding (Tegan) and Sarah Sutton (Nyssa)
April – “Eldrad Must Die!”
“”A Doctor, curse his name, threw me down among the dead… but I endure. I am Eldrad… and I must live!
A nuclear icebreaker, foundering in Arctic waters. Seabirds washed up in the fishing resort of Ambermouth, their wings encrusted with crystals. A shining artefact of uncertain provenance, up for sale on an auction site.
All of these things are linked, as the Doctor, Nyssa, Tegan and Turlough are about to discover. Linked to the rebirth of a genocidal tyrant, presumed dead many years ago…...

Here we have an interesting little anthology package of Doctor Who stories that are linked together into one greater plot. It’s an odd little contrivance that works very well and plays to the strengths of everyone involved.
The arcing story focuses on Nyssa (Sarah Sutton) being held captive by a corrupt sultan (Alexander Siddig, best known for playing Doctor Bashir on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine). He is holding the Doctor (Peter Davison), in his dungeon and forces Nyssa to tell him stories about their travels together in order to persuade him to release the Doctor. This Nyssa does, weaving a set of stories about her travels while the Doctor and the man in the cell next to his (Nadim Sawalha), make their escape.
But of course things are not what they seem, and soon Nyssa and the Doctor find themselves...

Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann are to star together in a brand new Doctor Who audio drama. Big Finish will celebrate Doctor Who's 50th anniversary in November with 'The Light at the End', a story that brings together the Fourth through Eighth Doctors to avert a universal crisis. 'The Light at the End' will also feature a gathering of popular Doctor Who companions, including Leela (Louise Jameson), Nyssa (Sarah Sutton), Peri (Nicola Bryant) and Ace (Sophie Aldred). Geoffrey Beevers is to reprise his role of The Master from the 1981 Doctor Who serial 'The Keeper of Traken' as well. Nicholas Briggs, writer of 'The Light at the End', said of the project: "[Big Finish] wanted to do a proper, fully-fledged (more)...

Big Finish audio story The Light at the End will feature multiple Doctors and a number of old friends...
While details of the BBC's TV plans to mark Doctor Who's 50th anniversary are still largely under wraps, Big Finish has confirmed its audio adventure celebration.
Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann are all set to voice their Doctors in Doctor Who: The Light at the End, a 100-minute story that will see multiple Doctors facing "imminent destruction", to be released in November.
Here's what writer/director Nicholas Briggs had to say:
“We wanted to do a proper, fully-fledged multi-Doctor story for this very special occasion, and it’s wonderful that all the surviving Doctors threw themselves behind the project so enthusiastically. That’s not to say the first three Doctors don’t appear – we wanted to pay homage to...

Ah, “The Talons of Weng-Chiang”. It’s the gift that just keeps on giving in the Doctor Who universe. Widely regarded as one of the best episodes of the entire series, it has spawned a spin-off set of audio stories starring the characters of Henry Gordon Jago and Professor George Litefoot, it served as the jumping-off point for the first of the Fourth Doctor audios, “Destination: Nerva”, and now we have this, which, Doctor Who being what it is, accomplishes the neat trick of being both a sequel and a prequel to that great episode.
In short, the Tardis, with the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison), Tegan (Janet Fielding), Nyssa (Sarah Sutton), and Turlough (Mark Strickson), goes through your basic timey-wimey ball, which results in the Doctor and Tegan landing in Brisbane, Australia, in the distant future, with Nyssa and Turlough landing in Bhutan three years prior.

Huzzah! After much media brooding and betting about the identity of the new Doctor Who companion, actress Jenna-Louise Coleman was announced at a press call last Wednesday.
The speculation had been gathering at pace of late, with a few whispers of Sophia Myles somehow coming back to Who after playing Madame du Pompadour six-odd years ago. Possibly this was some sneaky red herring paper trail left by Steven Moffat who urged his Twitter followers to follow La Myles, while a forthcoming interview in Doctor Who Magazine could have also been a clue. But no – quite how Sophia will be involved in the next series (at the time of writing this) is a mystery, so apologies if early next week she's announced as the next incarnation of The Rani.
What else? Waterloo Road, a programme that I dip into about once in a blue moon. It's an odd one in that...

Usually when I watch, read or listen to something I come away with a fairly clear impression of what I felt about it and, if I’m reviewing it, what I’m going to say. With “The Children of Seth,” the latest offering from Big Finish, the feeling I mostly come away with is confusion.
The story begins with the Tardis crew flying around minding their own business. As they do, they receive a message with just one word, “Idra”. The Doctor (Peter Davison), follows the message to its source, and soon they arrive at a place called Sirius.
There, the Doctor, Tegan (Janet Fielding), and Nyssa (Sarah Sutton), soon find themselves in the middle of trouble. It seems that the world is awaiting the return of a demonic force called Seth.
Meantime, the planet’s leader, Sirus (David Warner), is aging, and won’t be...

Well, after the last adventure, fighting a dalek who decided to be a high priest, we find our crew in need of some rest and relaxation. They go to Brisbane, Australia, hometown to Tegan (Janet Fielding), in order to unwind. This gives Tegan the chance to meet up with old friends, gives the Doctor (Peter Davison), the chance to take in some cricket, and gives Nyssa (Sarah Sutton) the chance to be basically baffled. Everyone seems to be having a good time.
This of course cannot last. Tegan hears that a reporter she’s friends with (Toby Hadoke), has gone missing, and he’s one of many who have. The Doctor does some investigations and soon the team is off to an alien planet.
Or are they? When they arrive, they notice the world looks exactly like London during the days of the Tudors. They even spot familiar landmarks,...

The so-called “Lost Stories” are a series of Doctor Who adventures from Big Finish. They’re adaptations of stories which were commissioned to be filmed for the old series, but never were (though some weren’t more than just ideas that someone had). Most notable so far are ones featuring the Sixth Doctor and Peri, where several stories had been planned that were canceled during the hiatus in the mid-1980s. Less notable, but just as interesting, are ones like this, “The Elite”.
Our story features the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison), Nyssa (Sarah Sutton), and Tegan (Janet Fielding), on their way to a pleasure planet for some R&R following their recent encounter with Omega in Amsterdam. Instead they wind up in a domed city on an unknown planet.
The Doctor sets off to find a map, telling Tegan and Nyssa to stay put outside the Tardis and not wander off.

Some comments on my review of the Doctor Who Christmas Special 'A Christmas Carol' got me thinking about how it came to be that everyone's favourite Time Lord can never seem to get any 'action', romantically speaking. It's not been for want of attention or admirers; even back in the William Hartnell days, The Doctor was capable of flirting and even having a matrimonial 'near-miss' in the 1964 Who outing 'The Aztecs', so Matt Smith's Doctor is breaking no new ground in running away from connubial bliss with the 1957 version of Marilyn Monroe in 'A Christmas Carol'.
Can 47 years of sexual tension ever be released without killing the fundamental dynamic of the show? I've come to believe that it probably can't - which, if true, puts the Gallifreyan rogue at least neck-and-neck with Star Trek's Mr. Spock in terms of 'attractive unavailability'.

A couple of years ago, Doctor Who Magazine ran a contest in which you could win the chance to commentate on an episode of Survival. Foolishly, I decided to enter with a less than glowing review of Black Orchid. Needless to say, it didn't win, for one of the possible reasons. A) Peter Davison et al came up with a more scathing review on the accompanying DVD commentary; B) 200 words isn't enough for me to write everything I want, since there's more waffle in my writing than the entire output of Bird's Eye; and C) It was rubbish anyway.
Another potential reason is that in theory, Black Orchid shouldn't warrant such harsh criticism. It's a mid-season diversion with a down time, holiday feel – Doctor and co travel back to the Roaring 20s to play cricket, eat food and dance at the swanky Cranleigh abode. That's all.
But then having seen the thing again,...

During Doctor Who's 47 years, companions have come and gone and have stuck by the good Doctor through thick and thin. We've had all sorts of companions, from plucky journalists through to shifty non-public school boys; leggy swinging 60s dolls through to haughty Time Lady ice-maidens and trusty schoolteachers through to – erm, Adric.
For completism's sake, I'm including all the companions of The Doctor, so that means one-offs too, like Adelaide and Christina – they were described in the BBC press releases as companions, so they're fair game. There'll be the equivalents of bronze, silver and gold for each category, so let the tournament commence!
Best Journey
3. Zoe Heriot (Wendy Padbury)
But after she's stowed away in the Tardis, Zoe goes from being Spock poster-girl through to a much more warm-hearted and caring companion. She still uses her total recall and whizzkid brain for defeating Cybermen fleets and finding her way through claustrophobic tunnels,...

A giant frog with delusions of grandeur? Nope, you haven't stumbled upon an episode of Dangermouse in which our hero's arch enemy - and dead ringer for Ann Widdecombe - Baron Greenback is plotting revenge, but in fact an episode of Doctor Who called Four To Doomsday.
Sounds crazy? Well, you'd be right. But then only in the previous season, we had a talking cactus with designs on the world, so the term "silly" is neither here nor there. Even so, Four To Doomsday requires an awful lot of tolerance on the viewer's part when it comes to dramatic credibility.
Maybe the common link here is Terence Dudley, who, after directing 1980's Meglos, switched his hat to writing. It has to be said though that his contributions to Doctor Who can charitably be described as eccentric. Four To Doomsday gives the impression of a writer who hasn't seen Doctor Who much.

Maths - I hate it. Ever since I was a small kid, I've never got it. All that talk of hypotenuses, acute angles and fractions frequently left me with a revolving head at school. Even as a grown-up, anything to do with maths leaves me in a cold sweat. Me and maths do not go together - much like the fourth Doctor. This may account for his long face which never really breaks into a smile during the story called Logopolis.
Or maybe it's to do with the fact that he's about to meet his maker.
Yes, after a record-breaking near-on seven years, Tom Baker is about to hang up his scarf. Seven months is not a long time. At the time of writing, October 2010 is still pretty much the same for me as it was in March. In Doctor Who-land though, time is all relative, and seven months can make a hell of a difference. The most glaring example is in 1980, when The Leisure Hive burst onto the screens.
It's a case of new brooms everywhere, as new producer John Nathan-Turner makes his debut. As a result, everything's changed in a drastic new makeover. After all it's the hip 'n' trendy 1980s, so why not get with the times? The Leisure Hive boasts all of these new changes, so much so that it's nigh-on difficult to absorb them all.
Hmmm, I feel a list coming on...
Change 1: The Theme Music
I'lll be honest with you. I used to be terrified of the original title music - to the point...

In the next few weeks, American fans will have several opportunities to meet Doctor Who celebrities and celebrate the show. Coming up this weekend (February 26–28) in Los Angeles is Gallifrey One, the largest Doctor Who convention in North America. This year's guests include classic series companions Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Katy Manning (Jo Grant), Deborah Watling (Victoria Waterfield), Anneke Wills (Polly), Frazer Hines (Jamie), and John Levene (Sgt. Big Finish announced today details of the upcoming three-story season of Fifth Doctor stories, featuring Peter Davison as the Doctor, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Janet Fielding as Tegan and Mark Strickson as Turlough, the first time this Tardis team had acted together since 1983.
According to executive producer Nicholas Briggs, "The three stories were recorded just after Christmas, and everyone was on brilliant form. It was quite thrilling to hear [the cast] recreating their roles so authentically. These adventures sound just like they've fallen through a time warp!"
He aded: “The mood during the recording was quite rambunctious and everyone had such a brilliant time that I wouldn’t be surprised to see this team reunited again some time in the near future…”
The series will debut in July, and the first story released will be Cobwebs by Jonathan Morris. The story guest-stars Helen Griffin (Mrs. Moore in "Rise of the Cybermen"), Raymond Coulthard...
