The film, starring Laura Balzer, Valery Tscheplanowa and Till Wonka, will tackle gender equality in Germany in 1946. Oliver Kracht is currently readying his debut feature, Trümmermädchen. Set in Germany shortly after the end of World War II, the drama will deal with the still highly topical subject of gender equality. It is worth noting that the script, written by Kracht himself, scooped the Thomas Strittmatter Prize for Screenwriting earlier this year. The film will tell the story of a pregnant young woman, Charlotte. Rejected by her boyfriend, she decides to sign up for the “Fräuleinkurs”, a class rumoured to teach young women how to win a man and keep him. The film is based on Finn-Ole Heinrich’s novel of the same name, and stars teenage actors Emil von Schönfels and Mekyas Mulugeta in the lead roles. Director Ilker Çatak, who in 2015 won the Student Oscar for his short film Fidelity, is currently working on a new feature, Räuberhände. This adaptation of the young-adult fiction novel of the same name by Finn-Ole Heinrich (the script was penned by Heinrich himself and Gabriele Simon) was honoured with the Thomas Strittmatter Prize for Screenwriting in 2018.
