- Bill Stern was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1988.
- "Bill Stern's Sports Newsreel" was heard on NBC Radio (1937-1953) and CBS Radio (1953-1956). It was known as the "Colgate Sports Newsreel" from 1939 till 1951.

- Inducted into the American Sportscasters Hall of Fame in 1984 (inaugural class, along with Red Barber, Don Dunphy, Ted Husing, and Graham McNamee.
- He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Radio at 6821 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.
- Upon his death, his remains were interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hawthorne, Westchester County, New York. His location plot is Section T.
- Inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
