- As a Jew he was not able to continue his film career in Germany after 1933 and he returned to the Netherlands. There he could realise some more movies as a director.
- Jaap Speyer was not save in his home country for a long time and it followed an odyssey which led him around the world. When the German troops marched in the Netherlands as well he fled to West New Guinea. But he had to flee from there as well when the Japanese marched in and his way led him to Australia.
