- Jaap Speyer was born on November 29, 1891 in Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands. He was a director and writer, known for De Jantjes (1934), Een koninkrijk voor een huis (1949) and Der Teilhaber (1918). He was married to Mia Pankau. He died on September 17, 1952 in Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands.

- As a Jew he was not able to continue his film career in Germany after 1933 and he returned to the Netherlands. There he could realise some more movies as a director.
- Jaap Speyer was not save in his home country for a long time and it followed an odyssey which led him around the world. When the German troops marched in the Netherlands as well he fled to West New Guinea. But he had to flee from there as well when the Japanese marched in and his way led him to Australia.
- He returned to the Netherlands after World War II but he was only able to realise one more movie called "Een koninkrijk voor een huis" (1949).
- His last German movies came in the 30s.
- The director Jaap Speyer finished his study for art history and afterwards gained a foothold in the theater scene in the Netherlands where he made his first experiences as a director. Finally he went to Germany where he realised his first movie as a director.
