For years I had heard the stories—the immersive games, the must-see screenings, the summer-camp-for-horror-fans atmosphere. Despite my trusted sources, in the back of my mind I wondered if it was too good to be true, if somehow the hype surpassed the actual experiences, and I knew that I would never know for sure until I saw it firsthand for myself. So, after years of thinking about it, I finally took the plunge. Early this June, I made the voyage from Minnesota to New Orleans (my first time in the city since I was 15), and I saw that it was indeed true—all of it, everything that I had heard from those who had gone before me. The Overlook Film Festival is the real deal, and like Jack Torrance in Stephen King’s The Shining, I felt like I had always been at the Overlook… and I never wanted to leave.

Sean Avery, the ex-nfl player who competed on season 18 of Dancing with the Stars, quit his off-Broadway play in dramatic fashion Tuesday night.
Sean Avery's Broadway Tantrum
Avery, 34, made a hasty exit on Tuesday from Negative Is Positive after proving to be a volatile person to work with. On Monday, he stormed out of rehearsals, and by the next day he had a full-on meltdown and walked away from the off-Broadway show. “He’s a playwright’s worst nightmare,” Negative writer Christy Smith-Sloman told Page Six.
What set Avery off on Tuesday? An offer of pizza. A stage manager named Natalie asked the former athlete if he wanted a slice of pizza. He said no, and then after mistakenly hearing Natalie call him an a--hole, proceeded to flip out, according to Smith-Sloman.
Natalie added, “He said I was ‘talking s--t‘ and said I was ‘so full of s--t...

None of the stars of "Pan Am" were alive in 1963, the year in which the show takes place. So in addition to learning their lines and figuring out their characters, they've also gotten a crash course in the social history of early-'60s America.
"It was just a different era ... there were no consequences," Michael Mosley, who plays co-pilot Ted, told Zap2it when we visited the set recently. "Nobody was going to get cancer from smoking. America was the best country in the world ... even when we were wrong, we were right."
"Pan Am" centers on its four female characters, who by virtue of their jobs were afforded more opportunities than a lot of women of the era -- even if, as Christina Ricci puts it, it was still a "blatantly misogynistic period."
"What we show is these women, in order to do this job ... that allowed them these...

If something goes wrong with your Thanksgiving preparations, take heart: The hosts of "The Chew" have been there.
Daphne Oz tells Zap2it about a true Turkey Day disaster that befell her family in the video at the top of the post. She says one year as she, her mom and her grandmother were preparing the family meal, "we set the entire kitchen ablaze with a burned turkey that we completely forgot in the oven -- literally, smoke everywhere. ... It was a charred carcass."
That year, she adds, was the first time she tried tofurkey -- "and it was really good."
Co-host Carla Hall's favorite Thanksgiving memory is a little different, in that involves surreptitiously returning the once-used china she and a roommate served dinner on when they were young.
As for this Thanksgiving, Hall says she's eager to try a version of fellow "Chew" chef Mario Batali's pumpkin with Fontina fonduta,...

Would you expect anything less than the best for Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) at her upcoming wedding?
Word from "Gossip Girl" Ep Josh Safran is the future princess will be wearing an outfit from the dressmaker to the stars at her on-camera wedding. That's right, she'll be sporting a Vera Wang.
At a party celebrating the 100th episode of the series, Safran let this information slip saying, "The dress is beautiful. I'm not sure if I'm suppose to say it, but it's Vera Wang...it's amazing."
Roxanne Mesquida, who plays Louis' sister Beatrice, agreed.
"I'd wear that dress it's very classy and elegant," Mesquida says. When asked for additional wedding details, specifically if she's going to be a bridesmaid, she declined to comment. Given the contentious relationship between Beatrice and Blair, this shouldn't be surprise.
Wang's wedding dresses are a favorite of the celebrity set. A-Listers including Jennifer Lopez, Kate Hudson...
