Active in community service programs that bring benefits without large costs, including aid for battered women, rehabilitation programs for California prisons and the Small Environmental Recycling Program for neighborhood offices.
Performs with her band, Mews and the Small Band, in the Los Angeles area.
Starred as "Maria" in "The Sound of Music" at the Montréal World's Fair, where she performed before crowds of 20,000. The real-life Maria von Trapp said that Mews' performance was the best and truest representation of herself that she had ever seen.
Went to New York as a teenager to study theater, where she was discovered by Dustin Hoffman, who became her acting coach and gave her her first role, acting and singing in a play he was directing.
