Speaking at a virtual panel organized by the NewImages Festival Thursday, leaders from the tech world shared a common message: The future durability of the VR market requires cultivating a user-base still in need of considerable development.
Panelists Deborah Papiernik (Ubisoft), Colum Slevin (Facebook), Ethan Stearns (Mwm Interactive), and Sarah Steele (YouTube VR) all more or less agreed that in order to bridge the gap between the early adopters driving current headset sales and the promised land of a more robust and mature VR market, the industry would have to put new tools into unfamiliar hands.
“Shooting, capturing and post-producing VR is really hard,” said Slevin, Facebook’s director of Ar/VR. “I’ve come to firmly believe that the path to sustainability for professional creators needs to be preceded by scale that is brought by user-generated content.”
Slevin continued: “The only way that there’s an ecosystem out there...

FandangoNOW now offers movies and TV shows for rent or purchase on Oculus Vr headsets, including some in 3-D.
Oculus Go and Quest headset users can now access the 90,000 movies and TV shows already available FandangoNOW, which is available on the headset app. The VOD service will also offer, for the first time, hundreds of 3-D titles, including “Spider-Man: Far from Home.”
“We are constantly looking for innovative ways to deliver high-quality entertainment to movie and TV fans on pioneering platforms,” said Fandango president Paul Yanover. “Our new initiative with Oculus will give fans a new and exciting way to explore, discover and truly immerse themselves in the movies, bringing them to new cinematic worlds they’ve never visited before.”
Oculus, Facebook’s Vr division, previously launched its own video store but appears to be phasing that out. It shut down the version available on Rift headsets a year ago.

“Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” was the big game reveal of Star Wars Celebration in Chicago this weekend, but Respawn Entertainment didn’t share a single second of actual gameplay. However, “Vader Immortal: A Star Wars Vr Series – Episode I,” first announced last fall alongside the standalone Oculus Quest headset, was playable—and impressive, too.
Strapping the Quest to my head, I was transported to a dark holding cell, where an Imperial officer with a half-metallic face warned me of the trouble I was sure to face when Darth Vader entered. And when the Sith Lord did indeed appear, he struck a very imposing figure—looking up at his iconic helmet is the kind of moment that takes on an extra edge in a Vr setting. After being commanded to unlock some kind of puzzle box to his satisfaction, I realized that Vader actually had big plans for me ahead.

It's only a matter of time until something super popular finally gets the George Lucas seal of approval. Yes, Teased last week, a Star Wars themed Angry Birds will officially be a thing early this November. To celebrate, Toy's R Us at Times Square featured an event debuting new plushies and toys. I snapped a few pics just for you. More after the break.
There was a huge Chewie plush posing for all the cameras. He also brought several of his rebel pals along to take down the porcine Empire.
Besides huggable plushies, there were a few of the Star Wars toy sets for those who like a little destruction during playtime. These should be available in late October.
At first, I thought these were awkwardly shaped pillows but after closer inspection they're Halloween costumes for your little Star Wars fan.
Here's the full release:
