The story follows a pair of loners, Hilda and Benji, who comb the Los Angeles streets checking out the city's most notorious crime scenes involving celebrity death, murder or suicide including James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Sharon Tate and Belushi of course.
When Hilda befriends reclusive Echo Park tenant Hank, his downstairs neighbor hints that Hank has some terrible secrets to hide. The Singleton's will adapt the script and produce the film but no director or studio is yet attached.

The title's misleading. John Belushi is Dead, just optioned for the screen by producers Ralph and Joan Singleton, isn't a Belushi biopic along the lines of Wired, but a "young adult" novel, written by Kathy Charles. In fact, Belushi doesn't have a great part to play in the story at all, besides being one stop on a trail of dead celebrities followed by morbid teens Hilda and Benji, who collect mementos from the sites of famous deaths, murders and suicides. James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Sharon Tate, Bobby Kennedy and Nicole Brown Simpson are further stops on their route, but when Hilda befriends Hank, an old man living in an apartment where a famous silent movie actor once stabbed himself to death, events take a (more) sinister turn.A few ghosts of projects past in there: inhaling from the bottle we're getting hints of Kalifornia (serial killer researchers get in over...

The first thing you should know is that Kathy Charles' novel John Belushi is Dead is not about John Belushi. This story is about a pair of high school friends who spend their time visiting the scenes of celebrity deaths. Yeah, it's kind of morbid, but everyone's got to have a hobby. The book was optioned by producers Ralph Singleton and Joan Singleton.
Here's the description of the novel:
Pink-haired Hilda and oddball loner Benji are not your typical teenagers. Instead of going to parties or hanging out at the mall, they comb the city streets and suburban culs-de-sac of Los Angeles for sites of celebrity murder and suicide. Bound by their interest in the macabre, Hilda and Benji neglect their schoolwork and their social lives in favor of prowling the most notorious crime scenes in Hollywood history and collecting odd mementos of celebrity death.
