Updated: We are in Day 3 of Disney’s second round of layoffs, which has included a senior level programming executive at Disney Branded Television. Additionally, we are including a couple of cuts that happened Tuesday but got lost in the flurry of staff reductions. We will continued update with more as layoff news comes in throughout the day.

Exclusive: The Salon South Asian Mentorship Program revealed its Class of 2022, led by Disney’s Reena Singh, Hillman Grad’s Rishi Rajani, WME agent Bash Naran, actor/writer Nik Dodani, and actor/producer Vinny Chhibber.
The Salon is a forum for South Asian artists and executives in entertainment to connect and collaborate, share resources, facilitate mentorship, drive public advocacy, and disburse grants. Its mission is to accelerate the creative development of South Asian American television and film through community organizing and empowerment.
This year’s writing mentees are Sabeeh Jameel and Jyotsna Suresh. The directing mentees are Aqsa Altaf and Kajal Patel. The executive leadership & production mentees are Satinder Chhokar, Shivani Doraiswami, Anisha Joshi, Priyanka Kapoor, Ashley Mathew, and Maansi Sunkara.
Their mentors include Nikki Menon, Anu Valia, Meera Menon, Ameet Shukla, Rishi Rajani, Bash Naran, Randeep Katari (Animation Executive), Sanjay Sharma, Rohit Kumar, and Munis Rashid.
The mentees will work closely with their respective mentors over the course of one year to identify areas of growth, discuss career strategy, access opportunities, and most importantly, build community. Mentees will also have exclusive access to panels with industry professionals and other educational programming curated by The Salon.
“Our first class of mentees reinforced our belief that building deep connections with one another is the key to our community’s success,” said The Salon’s co-founders Nik Dodani, Bash Naran, and Vinny Chhibber in a statement. “This is an industry based on relationships, and our goal with this program is to continue growing the pool of talent that the market can connect with.”
Many of last year’s participants have been making strides in their careers since the conclusion of the program, including Nardeep Khurmi, whose directorial debut Land of Gold premiered at this year’s TriBeCa Film Festival; Apoorva Guru Charan who produced Joyland, the winner of this year’s Cannes Film Festival Queer Palm; and writer/actor Kausar Mohammad, who was just cast as Fast Track in The Flash.

Gloria Fan, former VP Current Programming at 20th Television, has joined Disney Branded Television as head of Current Series.
In the newly created role, Fan will oversee original series for both Disney Channel and Disney+, reporting to Reena Singh, SVP Development and Current Series.
At Disney Channel, Fan will oversee such series as Sulphur Springs, Emmy-nominated Raven’s Home, and upcoming Ultraviolet & Black Scorpion; and for Disney+, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and the upcoming Sneakerella, National Treasure and the Beauty & The Beast prequel.
Most recently, Fan’s work has included National Geographic’s scripted series Genius and The Hot Zone, FX’s Mayans M.C., NBC’s Ordinary Joe and Showtime’s Homeland.

The Salon is doing the heavy lifting when it comes to elevating South Asian talent in the entertainment industry and to do that, they have selected the participants for the inaugural Salon Mentorship Program. Twentieth Century Fox Television has added Reena Singh as vice president of current programming and Anand Shah as vice president of comedy development, the company announced Wednesday. "Fairly Legal" is fairly over. The USA series, which starred "The L Word" veteran Sarah Shahi (pictured) as lawyer-turned mediator Kate Reed, has been canceled after two seasons. Shahi recently signed on for the new Dick Wolf drama "Chicago Fire," which airs on NBC, which like USA falls under the NBC Universal umbrella. Universal Cable Productions has hired Kate Schumaecker as VP Development and Current Programming. She will supervise the development of drama and comedy series for the studio that air on USA Network as well as handling current productions — including the long-running series Psych and Fairly Legal. Schumaecker arrives from Teri Hatcher’s Isbe Productions, where she was VP at the ABC Studios-based production company. At Ucp she will report to Svp Development and Current Programming Richard Rothstein. Before Isbe she worked at Meryl Poster’s production company Superb Entertainment, which had a first-look deal at NBCUniversal. Schumaecher succeeds Reena Singh, VP, Development & Current, who moved over to sibling betwork USA this past summer.
