- In his youth, he studied architecture at the Graz University of Technology while simultaneously attending some Advanced Prosthodontics courses (his dentist father wished him to become a doctor). As he grew interested in acting, he secretly entered the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts.
- Stage actor. Was an ensemble member of the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz Theatre in Berlin and Burgtheater in Vienna. Was awarded the honorary title of "Kammerschauspieler" in 2016 by the President of Austria.
- He has three sons: Maximilian Simonischek (b. 19 October 1982) with Charlotte Schwab, Benedikt (b. 1988) and Kaspar Simonischek (b. 1997) with Brigitte Karner.
- Brother of Reinhard Simonischek.
- Spent part of his childhood in Markt Hartmannsdorf, Styria and Sankt Paul im Lavanttal, Carinthia.
- Played the title role in "Jedermann" at the annual Salzburg Festival of Salzburg for 7 straight years (between 2002 and 2009). During his tenure, the female role of Buhlschaft was played by Veronica Ferres (2002-2004), Nina Hoss (2005-2006), Marie Bäumer (2007) and Sophie von Kessel (2008-2009).
