Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson faces multiple counts of perjury for lying about his knowledge of hacking in a 2010 trial. These new charges come just weeks after he was sentenced to 18 months in jail for his role in a phone-hacking conspiracy. Also read: Phone Hacking Scandal: Andy Coulson to Be Retried As the New York Times reported, the High Court in Glasgow accused him Wednesday of “making false claims while under oath as a witness” in the 2010 trial of Scottish lawmaker Tommy Sheridan, who was eventually found guilty of five counts of perjury himself and sentenced to three.

Our film industry should take inspiration from the Tommy Sheridan play to come up with the Scottish political thriller
One issue above all others dominated conversation in the pubs and clubs of Glasgow. It even supplanted all debate about the future status of Club 12 (formerly Rangers Fc), while Alex Salmond's spectacular bout of sartorial incontinence in Los Angeles was also soon forgotten. From Parkhead Cross in the east to Old Dumbarton Road in the west we all shook our heads in bewilderment. Just why did Scottish Opera pass up the opportunity of commissioning a work about the rise and fall of Tommy Sheridan in all of its glorious raiment? The announcement that the city's venerable King's Theatre, instead, is to stage I, Tommy in November has been greeted with astonishment by opera-goers all over the city.
The King's will assuredly do the Sheridan saga proud in its traditionally wry and couthy manner.

Police tell actor they believe his phone was hacked about 10 times
The Oscar-winning actor Sir Sean Connery has been told by police that they believe he was a repeated victim of phone hacking, the Guardian has learned.
The Scottish screen actor, best known for playing the secret agent James Bond, has been told by police he was hacked about 10 times, making him one of the highest profile victims so far in the hacking scandal.
It is understood his name appears in the records of Glenn Mulcaire, the private detective for the News of the World.
The incidents were confirmed on Tuesday by Connery's close friend and biographer Murray Grigor, who recently travelled to New York to launch a new film, starring Connery, about St Andrew's University.
After confirming the details with Connery in Switzerland late on Tuesday, Grigor said: "Apparently there were 10 instances. The police were quite excited about it...

The arrest of four Sun journalists threatens to open a fresh phase of the scandal surrounding News International
On Saturday morning, the police arrested four journalists who have worked for Rupert Murdoch. For a while, it looked as though these were yet more arrests of people related to the News of the World but then it became clear that this was something much more significant.
This may be the moment when the scandal that closed the NoW finally started to pose a potential threat to at least one of Murdoch's three other UK newspaper titles: the Sun, the Times and the Sunday Times.
The four men arrested on Saturday are not linked to the NoW. They come from the Sun, from the top of the tree – the current head of news and his crime editor, the former managing editor and deputy editor.
Nothing is certain. No one has been convicted of anything.

Ryan Giggs may face a jail term, if judges find out he lied about his marital status, in order to gain his recent gagging order against Imogen Thomas.
The Manchester United star approached the High Court about the injunction earlier this year and claimed to be happily married and a dedicated family man in order to land the order, which prevented the Big brother star from speaking about their affair.
However, it has since been revealed that the footballer conducted at least one other extra-marital affair in recent times, with his sister in law!
One senior lawyer told The Daily Star : “He’s now in a very difficult position.
“The real danger comes if he is ruled to have withheld information from the court when applying for the injunction. That could be deemed perjury.
“The UK courts have never shied away from pursuing similar prosecutions even in the most high-profile cases.

Singing sensation Susan Boyle has seen off competition from actor Ewan McGregor to be named Scot of the Year. Boyle enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame after footage of her audition on U.K. TV show "Britain's Got Talent" in 2009 spread across the internet and made her an overnight star.
She has since enjoyed two number one records in both Britain and the U.S., and was named Sony's highest-selling international artist earlier this week. The unlikely pop idol has now earned a much more personal honor - she's been voted Scotland's star of the year for 2010.
She received a 95 per cent share of the public vote, ahead of disgraced Scottish politician Tommy Sheridan, who is facing a jail term for perjury, in second place with three per cent. McGregor was third with two per cent in the ScotsCare survey.
