- K.L. Segal is a multifaceted artist working in the entertainment industry. She is the third of four children born in Manhattan, New York to Brenda Kennedy-Smith, a former model and Morton Segal, a V.P. at MGM, who participated in such films as The Sound of Music.
Surrounded by the creative world of film during her adolescent years, Ms. Segal studied music, dramatic arts, and wrote her first science fiction screenplay by the age of 14. At the age of 9, she began to develop herself as a multi-instrumentalist and was featured as a solo artist in school concerts. She focused her high school years on theatre and English, and athletics. By 20, she was an aspiring actress studying Film and Theater at UC Davis, while working on a science fiction screenplay. During her academic tenure, Ms. Segal had her only child.
As a young single parent, she garnered her first break, becoming on-air talent for a radio station while continuing to study acting. Soon, she moved on to major radio markets; 104.5 KFOG in San Francisco and then 97.1 KLSX (The Howard Stern Station) in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, she acted in various commercials, was a voice over artist for commercials as well as for a Rolling Stone auditory program. Segal hosted (Vee Jay) and produced episodes of MV8 for Electra Record's Producer, Shawn Kilmurray. Segal later became a writer for a syndicated long-form radio show as well as a comedy co-host for a Spin Radio syndicated program. After acting in commercials, she landed small roles in both The Naked Gun 33 1/3 and My Fellow Americans.
In Los Angeles, she trained as a Film Editor. Her first project was a Rod McCall film. Segal edited along a seasoned film editor, Ed Marx, on Lewis and Clark and George, staring Rose McGowen, a spring-board into her career. She's since developed into an astute storyteller who augments and creates film and television properties.
Segal is a collaborator. From short form comedy to narrative and all those that fall under the vast umbrella of non-scripted, Segal went on to work as an Executive Producer, Co-Executive Producer, Writer, Director, Multi-Cam Director, Green Screen Director, Supervising Editor, Finishing Editor, Editor, Sound Designer, and Songwriter. Ms. Segal has contributed to works for such companies as Netflix, Amazon Prime, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, Hulu, Sundance Channel, TBS, Nat Geo, CMT, Discovery, A&E, Youtube Red, Paramount Pictures and Warner Brothers.
As a content originator, Segal crafts original works in the genres of futuristic/science fiction, supernatural, comedy, dramatic, and biopic. - She is the daughter of ex Vogue model Brenda Kennedy-Smith and retired P.R. giant Mort Segal. Her brothers are also in the biz; Matt Segal writes for Los Angeles Magazine, and Peter Segal is a film Director. She also goes under the moniker, Kieran Leigh for her musical career.
