A sequel to the cult classic, The Adventures Of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert is in the works. Thirty years after the original film’s release, it’s also been announced that its cast and writer-director Stephan Elliot are all returning.
Speaking to Deadline, Elliot revealed that a sequel is in the works, saying “I’m not repeating myself, we’ll start the new film in Australia, but by God, we’re going on one helluva journey. The original cast is on board, I’ve got a script that everybody likes, we’re still working out deals. … It’s happening”.
Although nothing is official, Elliot’s statement seems pretty definitive, and confirms that Stamp, Weaving and Pearce are all on board.

30 years after the release of “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert,” the cult classic from director Stephan Elliott is getting a sequel. Original trio of stars Terence Stamp, Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving will return to their roles for the new film.
Elliott will return as director, writer and producer, and is seeking a producing partner for the sequel. The colorful 1994 film follows a transgender woman named Bernadette (Stamp) and two drag queens, Adam Whitely/Felicia Jollygoodfellow (Weaving) and Tick/Mitzi Del Bra (Pearce) as they road trip around the Australian Outback in a bus nicknamed Priscilla.
Plot details for the sequel are still under wraps, but it will feature a grown-up version of Tick’s 7-year-old son from the original flick.
David Stratton praised the film after its premiere at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival in his Variety review, writing, “Although the film doesn’t make concessions to a straight audience,...

This Blue Beetle article contains spoilers.
At the start of Blue Beetle’s second act, protagonist Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) asks an important question: “Who the hell was Blue Beetle?”
A lot of viewers wondered the same thing when the Warner Bros. movie came to theaters earlier this year and they’ll likely be asking it again now that the movie is streaming on Max. People don’t ask that same question of Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman, but not because Blue Beetle is at best a C-lister in the DC Comics bullpen. Rather it’s because the man behind the Blue Beetle mask has changed several times since Charles Nicholas Wojtkoski debuted the character in 1939.
The big-screen adaptation introduces Blue Beetle as Jaime Reyes, who is a recent college grad forced to the superhero identity after receiving an alien scarab from Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine), the daughter of inventor Ted Kord,...

“Nothing is what it seems.” A seemingly offhand remark made early in Don’t Look Now is slowly revealed to be the theme around which the film revolves.
Nicolas Roeg’s directorial efforts may not have always connected with audiences immediately, but his impressionistic approach has aged like fine wine. Don’t Look Now, in particular, was decades ahead of its time upon its release in 1973.
The screenplay — written by Allan Scott and Chris Bryant (The Awakening), based on a 1971 short story by Daphne du Maurier — analyzes the psychological effects of trauma through a horror lens; a motif we’ve seen explored many times over in recent years, from Ari Aster’s filmography to David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy.

This madcap musical from 1935 about an American dance star visiting London swirls effortlessly back into cinemas, with classic songs from Irving Berlin
Like a Shakespearean marriage comedy with a spoonful of Feydeau farce, this madcap musical from 1935, from screenwriters Allan Scott and Dwight Taylor and director Mark Sandrich, saunters back for a re-release. It features Fred Astaire as Jerry, the American dance star visiting London, a city seen in almost surreally weird back projections – and Astaire incidentally does an intentionally terrible Cockney accent when he pretends to be a hansom cab driver. (It is one of the rare times he does not appear in faultless evening dress.) Irving Berlin’s classic songs Cheek to Cheek and Top Hat, White Tie and Tails are great, and Astaire swirls on a forward-tilting gyroscopic axis with his spindly arms and legs effortlessly orbiting him like Saturn’s moons.

The Green Lantern TV series is dead. Long live the Green Lantern series.
After years of development and redevelopment, an HBO Max series based on the DC superheroes from Greg Berlanti, the longtime steward of DC’s TV shows, has been scrapped. In its place, a new series is being developed, titled Lanterns, which is acting as a foundational show under the plans from newly installed DC Studios heads, James Gunn and Peter Safran.
“Greg’s vision was more of a space opera that he wanted to do,” said Safran during a presentation of the new DC slate on the Warner Bros. Studios lot Monday. “Our vision is more True Detective, more of a terrestrial-based investigation story. We all agreed to part ways.”
In the works since at least 2019, Green Lantern was touted to be the most expensive DC show ever made, with multiple stories sprawling across time and space.

Greg Berlanti’s “Green Lantern” TV series has been scrapped as part of the new direction for the DC Universe overseen by Peter Safran and James Gunn.
“Greg’s vision was more of a space opera that he wanted to do and our vision for it is a much more True Detective, terrestrial-based investigation story,” Safran said during a presentation of the initial Dcu slate, which TheWrap attended along with a small group of reporters.
Berlanti’s series, which saw the departure of showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith last fall, was to star Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine and was to feature an openly gay Green Lantern. Grahame-Smith’s 10-episode first season was focused on a variety of Green Lanterns simultaneously, including Alan Scott, Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz.

At this point, it seems like much of what was previously planned for the DC universe over at Warner Bros will be canceled in favor of a planned overhaul from new CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. One such project that was on the horizon for the company was an HBO Max series centered around the character of the Green Lantern. Deadline reports that Gunn has responded to the news that the long developed show has been given the axe in accordance with his and Safran’s new ten-year plan.
Gunn took to his Twitter to address those claims in one word, “Fake.” This was in response to a now-deleted tweet from the Comic Book Resources publication account that claimed that the Green Lantern show, due to hit the streaming platform, was no longer going forward. The author has since deleted the initial tweet after Gunn’s single-word rebuttal.

Sam Worthington almost went from “Avatar” to DC superhero…that is, if the script had made sense to him.
The “Avatar: The Way of Water” actor revealed that he was almost cast in 2011 DC film “Green Lantern” as Hal Jordan — except he couldn’t wrap his head around the plot.
“It didn’t make much sense to me — the suit comes out of his skin?” Worthington told Variety. “And I was like, ‘He’s got this powerful ring that can create anything. Well, what can beat the ring?’ The answer was, ‘Nothing.’ I was like, ‘Well, something needs to beat it, or it won’t be very interesting.'”
Ryan Reynolds eventually took over the lead role and the film was an infamous flop, earning 116.6 million at the U.S. box office. Worthington went on to star in “Man on a Ledge” and “Wrath of the Titans.”

Not only was DC’s Stargirl an apparent casualty of the changes underway at The CW under new owner Nexstar, but a potential spinoff may have been thrown out with the bath water.
Back in Season 2, the DC series introduced the character of Jennie Hayden aka Jade (played by Ysa Penarejo), the daughter of Green Lantern Alan Scott. Having aged out of a group home, Jennie at the time was struggling with her own, recently discovered green energy-based powers, while also wondering where her twin brother Todd had landed.

The hierarchy of power at DC Studios has changed. In the days after the release of Black Adam introduced a new juggernaut to DC’s big-screen pantheon, Warner Bros. has not only restructured its superhero movie branch with director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran to lead it but also officially brought back Henry Cavill’s Superman. And just days before that, we learned that The Batman director Matt Reeves was leading a serious expansion of his own dark superhero universe, with movies about many of Gotham City’s greatest villains planned. The controversy-ridden, eternally delayed The Flash movie somehow has a sequel already in development, too.
There’s a lot going on at the newly-reorganized DC Studios, with no signs of stopping as Gunn, Safran, and friends try to finally steer the ship toward the lucrative waters where Marvel dropped its anchor long ago. It’s much too early...

DC’s Stargirl this week closed out the “Infinity Inc.” two-parter that hit pause on Season 3’s murder mystery storyline. What fun Easter eggs were to be found amid the otherwise verrry serious episode?
I have probably said before on these here pages that I am no great fan of “mindscape” episodes that deposit characters into other planes of existence to sort through their stuff. Between Stargirl, The Flash and Titans, to name just DC series, such episodes seem to come at a pretty steady clip.

HBO Max's "Green Lantern" series will have to relight its torch, because it is now being completely reworked despite being in development since late 2019.
The DC series will now focus on John Stewart, one of the comic brand's first Black superheroes. The show was initially set to follow Guy Gardner and Alan Scott, with "American Horror Story" star Finn Wittrock and "Treadstone" star Jeremy Irvine already cast in those respective Green Lantern roles. Showrunner and writer Seth Grahame-Smith has also departed the series after finishing a full season's worth of scripts for eight episodes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Grahame-Smith left "Green Lantern" because of the many changes at the helm of several different enterprises involved with the project: HBO Max, its parent company, producers Warner Bros. Television, and most recently, DC Comics themselves. The filmmaker signed on as writer and showrunner a year after the series was announced.

The HBO Max “Green Lantern” series is being retooled to focus on a different lead character, and as a result has lost its showrunner.
DC and HBO Max decided to take the TV series adaptation of the fan-favorite comic in a different direction, focusing on John Stewart – a Black Green Lantern – instead of the other Green Lanterns that were the focus of the project initially. As a result, showrunner and writer Seth Grahame-Smith (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”) has decided not to stick with the project, sources confirm to TheWrap.
We’re told the decision to change the focus of the “Green Lantern” series predates the news that James Gunn and Peter Safran will be spearheading the DC Universe going forward.

The series has been in the works since 2019.
It should be noted that this decision has not been made by Gunn or Safran and is in no way connected to the recent news. The redevelopment will now involve changing the focus of the story to another character who has helmed the Lantern Corp power, John Stewart. The showrunner and writer for Green Lantern, Seth Grahame-Smith, had already completed scripts for eight episodes of the show when the decision was made. Grahame-Smith was understandably frustrated with the situation, having already dealt with the studio regime change.

HBO Max’s live-action Green Lantern series is being redeveloped to focus on a different intergalactic lawman.
First announced back in October 2019, the Greg Berlanti production set out to “reinvent the classic DC property” through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott (played by Treadstone‘s Jeremy Irvine), but also visiting 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner (American Horror Story‘s Finn Wittrock) and half-alien Bree Jarta. They were to be be joined by other Lanterns, “from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.”

Green Lantern’s brightest day is still yet to come.
Executive producer Greg Berlanti’s upcoming “Green Lantern” HBO Max series, which has long been in development, has hit another speed bump by losing its co-writer and showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith, Variety has confirmed. The show is also being redeveloped to shift focus from Green Lantern characters Guy Gardner and Alan Scott to John Stewart, one of the first major Black DC Comics characters. Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine were cast in 2021 as Gardner and Scott, but they are no longer signed onto the show.
Before exiting, Grahame-Smith had finished the scripts for a full, eight-episode season. Berlanti Productions, which has an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, is still signed onto the show.

HBO Max’s long-gestating Green Lantern TV series is changing gears.
The drama that has been in the works since late 2019 will now focus on John Stewart, one of DC’s first Black superheroes. The series, from exec producer Greg Berlanti, was to originally have revolved around Guy Gardner and Alan Scott and had already cast Finn Wittrock (Ratched) and Jeremy Irvine (Treadstone) as the respective Green Lanterns.
As part of the creative overhaul, writer and showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith has departed the series after completing scripts for a full season of eight episodes. Sources say Grahame-Smith, who signed on as writer and showrunner a year after Green Lantern was announced, chose to leave the project after weathering a number of regime changes at HBO Max, its parent company, producers Warner Bros. Television and now DC Comics.

According to Deadline, Justin Simien (Dear White People) is set to develop a TV series adaptation of Geiger for Paramount Television Studios. The best-selling series was created by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank for Image Comics, and Johns will develop the series adaptation alongside Simien.
“Set in the years after a nuclear war has ravaged the planet, desperate outlaws battle for survival in a world of radioactive chaos,” reads the official description of the Geiger comic. “Out past the poisoned wasteland lives a man even the Nightcrawlers and Organ People fear. Some name him Joe Glow, others call him the Meltdown Man. But his name…is Geiger.” The comic series is a lot of fun, with some great visuals to go along with it, particularly when Geiger is powered up. Geoff Johns will write the pilot for the Geiger TV series, and also serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Justin Simien,...

This week on DC’s Stargirl, while the Jsa schemed to “unplug” whomever has been spying on Blue Valley, Courtney was unexpectedly whisked away to help Jennie find her brother Todd once and for all (…and for better, or worse).
The episode “Chapter Seven: Infinity Inc. Part One” — a nod to DC comics’ superhero team comprised of mainly Jsa members’ kids — opened with a replay of a sequence from Season 2, Episode 2, in which Jennie Hayden was ushered out of the Ordway Home for Children, having turned 18. Just as the Jsa gets wind of an ominous new threat, the team will also get a blast from their recent past, in this Wednesday’s episode of DC’s Stargirl.
In the “Frenemies” season’s “Chapter Seven: Infinity Inc. In 2011, the silver screen debut of Green Lantern landed like a thud instead of soaring like a triumph. The film was dismissed both by critics and wider audiences; one of the more positive reviews was Roger Ebert's middling praise, "['Green Lantern'] intends to be a sound-and-light show, assaulting the audience with sensational special effects. If that's what you want, that's what you get."
Time hasn't been any kinder to "Green Lantern." Star Ryan Reynolds has poked fun at it in both of his subsequent "Deadpool" movies. "Green Lantern" was conceived as the beginning of a larger DC Comics film franchise, meant to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, its hero has been persona non grata on film since. Green Lantern is usually a staple of the Justice League but in both versions of that film, the only Lantern who showed up was a cameo.

And there you have it.
DC had been pushing this event more than most, promising that it would be of huge significance going forward. Well, we’ve heard that quite a few times of late, so it’s fair to say that the majority of fandom was unimpressed. Three issues in, we were all thinking this is decent, entertaining stuff, but not really more than that. Then issue four comes out and three words on the cover change everything.
‘..on Infinite Earths’.
This, we are now told, is the direct sequel to the iconic Crisis. The other Crisis-this and Crisis-that books that sold millions were but detours along the way it seems. Everything we have seen so far now takes on a different light. Maybe there won’t be a return to the expected status quo after all this after all.

If a single WW2 Hollywood war epic can sum up the complexity of homefront morale-building, this one is it. Claudette Colbert, Paulette Goddard and Veronica Lake enlist as Army nurses and are plunged into the disastrous opening onslaught in the Philippines. Adroit screenwriting and direction use the clichés of Hollywood glamour to give mom & dad back home a dramatic idea of what it might be like for a company of nurses in a failing war zone. Great studio effects show the rough retreats and casualties, while George Reeves and Sonny Tufts serve as reassuring sentimental diversions. And a squad of ‘unglamorous’ actresses get to play strong, patriotic roles. It’s an entertaining winner.

Updated with settlement, 1:25 Pm: Netflix has settled the 5 million lawsuit filed against the streamer over its hit limited The Queen’s Gambit. Terms of the settlement reached today weren’t announced.
The suit was filed by Soviet chess icon Nona Gaprindashvili, who alleged sexism and historical inaccuracy in the series starring Anya Taylor-Joy as Beth Harmon. In the final episode, as Harmon plays in a stress-fueled 1968 match in Moscow against a male challenger, a commentator says, “There’s Nona Gaprindashvili, but she’s the female world champion and has never faced men.”

For many observers, the sudden shelving of the nearly-completed Batgirl movie was the harbinger of a crisis at HBO Max. With the long-running Arrowverse coming to an end as The Flash completes its ninth and final season, that film seemed like a pariah, a sign that some shows will live, some shows will die, and nothing will be the same. But early reports indicate that most current series and some in production are still going forward.
Chief among these is Green Lantern, the ambitious show about three generations of space cops. Created by Arrowverse architects Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and The Lego Batman Movie writer Seth Grahame-Smith, Green Lantern demanded a budget to rival those of HBO’s prestige programs, such as Game of Thrones. With such high costs, Green Lantern seemed exactly like the type of show new Warner Brothers CEO David Zaslav wants to eliminate as he...

The best way to describe this book is the comic book equivalent of a summer popcorn action movie. Doesn’t lend itself to a whole lot of navel gazing analysis, but there are a lot of explosions, action and fisticuffs going on virtually the whole time. It certainly keeps your attention. Joshua Williamson has also cleverly threaded the ties to the previous Crisis books gradually and subtly, keeping things moving nicely while also promising big things to come down the road. I can’t lie, I’ve been enjoying it so far, though I’ve got the inescapable feeling that we’ve seen nothing yet.
Let’s see if I’m right.
So, in typical story format, we have reached the ‘low point.’ Heroes are on the back foot, the world at large is freaking out,...

The 73rd Writers Guild of America Awards took place on Sunday (March 21) in simultaneous non-televised ceremonies held in Los Angeles and New York. The WGA was the first of the guilds to be heard from in this extra-long Oscar season. But don’t look to these results for any clarity on the screenplay races at the Academy Awards.
The stringent rules of the WGA prohibit non-guild members from competing. This year, three of the 10 scripts nominated by the writers branch of the academy were deemed ineligible here: the adapted screenplays of “The Father” and “Nomadland” (which we predict will win the Oscar) and the original screenplay for “Minari.”
The guild did align with the academy three-for-five in Best Adapted Screenplay, with “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” “One Night in Miami” and “The White Tiger” competing at both. “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “News of the World” round out the guild nominees. Our...

“It is a privilege for Level Forward to lead the charge of bringing The Queen’s Gambit to the stage through the beloved and enduring craft of musical theater,” Level Forward CEO Adrienne Becker and producer Julia Dunetz said in a statement. “Told through a brave and fresh point of view, audiences are already sharing in the friendship and fortitude of the story’s inspiring women who energize and sustain Beth Harmon’s journey and ultimate triumph.

Exec producer William Horberg read out a laundry list of people to thank with his speech.
He thanked Allan Scott for securing the rights to Walter Tevis’ book three years before star Anya Taylor-Joy was born and thanked the star herself. “Anya Taylor-Joy, my heart, how can someone who is such an absolute joy to work with be literally named hyphen-Joy?”
He made particular mention of Scott Frank, who wrote and directed the seven-part series. “You’re the only one I know who could bring the sexy back to chess. In a dark year, you somehow managed to refurbish the whole world’s tranquillity, while completely leaving your own neurosis untouched,...

2021 Golden Globe Final Predictions:
Best TV Movie/Limited Series
Updated: Feb. 24, 2021
Awards Commentary:
This year’s limited series category is an ambitious field, made up of personal tales like “Small Axe” and “Unorthodox,” an addictive mystery in “The Undoing” and a boundary-pushing, honest relationship tale with “Normal People.” But the compelling performance by Anya Taylor-Joy in “The Queen’s Gambit,” which manages to make chess exciting and one young woman’s personal journey combating her demons even more compelling, is the true frontrunner here.
And The Predicted Winner Is: "The Queen's Gambit" (Netflix)–
Executive Producers: William Horberg, Allan Scott, Scott Frank
Synopsis: Beth Harmon (played by Anya Taylor-Joy) is an orphan who becomes a chess prodigy, but alcoholism may prevent her from becoming the world champion.

Will there ever be a cultural phenomenon like The Queen’s Gambit again?
Yes, but it may take a while, according to the show’s executive producer William Horberg.
The prominent Hollywood producer chatted today with critic Luke Buckmaster as part of this year’s Screen Forever conference, where he was given the chance to reflect on how the show rose to become Netflix’s most-watched limited series of all time.
Horberg said the final product was the culmination of a vision spanning three decades.
“My partner [co-creator] Allan Scott got the rights to this 30 years ago and has been trying to make it since then,” he said.
“I joined him on this journey 20 years ago and we shot it in 2019.
“It was a long, long road uphill with a lot of rejection along the way.
“The marketplace just didn’t judge this as commercial material and yet it became the most-watched limited series in Netflix history.
