- According to an article by Frederick Othman from January 10, 1940, the 26-year-old Geneva Sawyer was the only female choreographer working in the Hollywood film industry.
- She was an accomplished tap dancer who performed in revues and nightclubs before being signed by 20th Century Fox. However, as a film actress, Geneva was assigned little more than bit parts for which she was paid $75 per week. In 1937, she became the only female 'dance director' employed in Hollywood at the time.
- She was superstitious and always had a lucky penny tucked into one of her dancing slippers while performing.
