In 2020, Naoya Fujita won the Japanese Short Film Competition of Skip City International D-Cinema with “Stay” (2019). Eraser Wars (2017) by Akira (11.06 min)
Akira loves erasers, and he made the animation film “Eraser Wars” based on stories and designs which he had created since being in the third year of elementary school, and presented the film to the public in 2017. It was screened at countless Film Festivals including Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival and received many awards in festivals. Akira is 13 years old and in the second grade of junior high school now.
The film revolves around a group or erasers, whose planet is about to be destroyed, and they are tasked with finding another suitable planet for the rest of them to lιve. As they search across the universe in their spaceship, they are attacked by a creature named Zeru, who damages their vessel, and forces them to land on his planet. A battle between the erasers and creature ensues.
The short is quite good, both in conception and implementation.

Good news for those who’d like to take a closer look at Mamoru Oshii’s Assault Girls without importing the Japanese DVD or Blu-ray Disc that will be released next week on June 23rd.
Nippon Cinema reports that Well Go USA has acquired the Us rights for Oshii’s Girls with Guns flick starring Meisa Kuroki, Rinko Kikuchi and Hinako Saeki, and will release it on R1 DVD on October 19th.
This release is supposed to include English subtitles for the Engrish dialogues. Although Well Go USA has already released several titles on Blu-ray Disc, no high definition release has been announced this time.

Well Go USA has acquired Mamoru Oshii's 2009 live-action sci-fi film Assault Girls and will be releasing it on DVD in North America on October 19, 2010.
The film was released in Japan back in December as the feature-length follow-up to Oshii's previous short films “Assault Girl: Kentucky no Hinako” and “Assault Girl 2”, both of which were part of omnibus action movies (2007’s “Shin Onna Tachiguishi Retsuden” and 2008’s “Kiru ~ Kill”, respectively).
Plot: In the aftermath of global thermonuclear war, the Earth's surface has been turned into a desert battlefield. Three beautiful female hunters: Gray (Meisa Kuroki), Lucifer (Rinko Kikuchi), and Colonel (Hinako Saeki) traverse the barren landscape armed with powerful assault rifles to fight a group of deadly sand-dwelling monsters called "sunakujira" (sand whales). When the the epic battle eventually seems to be coming to an end, the sparkle of muzzle flash dies down and assault ship flies overhead. Suddenly, a...

From Mamoru Oshii, the well-known and respected Japanese director of “Avalon” and the “Ghost in the Shell” franchise comes what I can only assume is a get-rich quick scheme to pay off a house note or two, ala “Assault Girls”. It’s like Frank Herbert’s “Dune”, except with Japanese chicks with assault rifles. In the aftermath of global thermonuclear war, the Earth’s surface has been turned into a desert battlefield. The official website for Mamoru Oshii’s Assault Girls has been updated with the full theatrical trailer that shows us some more of…well everything! More Meisa Kuroki, Rinko Kikuchi and Hinako Saeki, more (Engrish) dialogues and more of those mediocre CG effects. But to be honest, the latter doesn’t bother me at all when it comes to a new Oshii project…especially if the girls are real and armoured

First there was a teaser, and now there is a full trailer for Mamoru Oshii's live action cgi badassery and followup to his two Ag shorts and I have to say it looks mighty fine, but why do they always have to ruin Japanese trailer with terrible J-pop?

The full length follow up to his recent short film Assault Girl 2 and first live action feature since Avalon, the first trailer has just arrived for Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii’s Assault Girls. It doesn’t show much and what it does show has a curiously washed out effect - having seen Assault Girl 2 I can tell you that the post production effect he lays on the visuals here looks much better in proper resolution - but new Oshii is always a major event, even relatively low-budget, quick production cycle Oshii like this. Here’s the synopsis from Nippon Cinema:

You will recall that back in December word had gotten out that Japanese director Mamoru Oshii and one of the stars from his short film Assault Girl 2, Rinko Kikuchi, announced that they would be pleased as punch if they could make a feature length film based on characters from that short.
The live-action Assault Girls feature film by director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers, Patlabor) has been green-lit for a December 19 opening. This film will be Oshii’s first live-action feature film since 2001’s Avalon. The science-fiction story is set on a desert battlefield after giant monsters named “Suna Kujira” (literally, sand whales) devastated the land. Three beautiful female hunters — all of whom wield assault rifles and other powerful weapons — engage in battle with the monsters, including the biggest of them all, the Madara Suna Kujira (spotted sand whale). Ann has posted some new/first details for Mamoru Oshii’s upcoming live-action film Assault Girls. According to Hollywood Channel and Cinema Today, the long version of Oshii’s Assault Girl 2 short from the Kiru ~ Kill omnibus will open in Japan on December 19th. The film is set on a desert planet that has been devastated by giant monsters called Suna Kujira (sand whales). For reasons yet unknown, three female hunters played by Meisa Kuroki, Rinko Kikuchi and Hinako Saeki visit the planet to hunt down the most dangerous sand whale there is, the Madara Suna Kujira (spotted sand whale) using assault rifles and other weapons.
Even though the films is getting released pretty soon, only one photo that makes one of the Assault Girls (Meisa Kuroki) look like an amazing mix of Casshern and Oshii’s Avalon has been released so far.
