Maj. Owen Rutter, British historian and travel writer, fellow of the
Royal Geographical Society and of the Royal Anthropological Institute,
served in France and Macedonia during WWI with the Wiltshire Regiment.
He wrote one of the masterpieces of Great War verse, a parody of
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1922)'s "Song of Hiawatha" entitled "Song of Tiadatha"
(1919). Also author of works on Capt.
William Bligh and the mutiny on
the Bounty.
