Back in 1990 my late aunt, Elizabeth Peña starred opposite Tim Robbins in the thriller Jacob's Ladder. The film centered on a Vietnam veteran haunted by flashbacks and hallucinations based on his experiences before, during, and after the nightmarish war. Robbins played the titular Jacob, Peña played Jezzie.
I recall it was a big deal when it came out. I wasn't allowed to see it, since I was only 7. And, actually, to this day I haven't seen it. Mainly cause I've been told by friends of mine that my Ñaña was involved in some fairly risqué scenes, so...no thanks. But yes, the original Jacob's Ladder was directed by Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction) and continues to have a strong following to this day.
Now it's being remade, and it's got Michael Ealy (Almost Human) and Jesse Williams (Cabin In The Woods) attached to star. This iteration of the story will focus on a pair of brothers,...

A remake of the 1990 Tim Robbins supernatural horror thriller Jacob's Ladder has been in the works for a few years now. It’s taken a big step forward recently as The Perfect Guy star Michael Ealy has been cast in the lead role. I have no idea if he’s a good actor or not, but I don’t like the fact that this film is being remade.
The original film followed a haunted Vietnam vet who attempts to discover his past while suffering from a severe case of disassociation and mourning his dead child. To do this he has to “decipher reality and life from his own dreams, delusion, and perception of death.”
The new film is described as “a modern-day paranoid action thriller about two brothers.” There are no other details, but it sounds like it’s going to be a very different kind of movie. The script...

The remake of Jacob's Ladder casts Michael Ealy in the lead role, as it heads towards production.
The 1990 thriller Jacob’s Ladder, from director Adrian Lyne, has been mooted for the reboot/remake treatment for a little while now. And now we have some definite news: the new Jacob’s Ladder is happening, and production is kicking off in May.
The film will be directed by David Rosenthal, who helmed The Perfect Guy. And he’s cast the star of that movie, Michael Ealy, in the lead role of his remake. Jeff Buhley and Sarah Thorp have penned the script for the new movie.
Neither Lyne nor original star Tim Robbins are believed to be involved in any way with the new film.
We’d imagine that the new Jacob’s Ladder is eyeing a release in 2017. We’ll keep you posted…

A remake of Adrian Lyne’s Jacob’s Ladder has been brewing over in Hollywood for a few years now, and today, Variety reports that Ld Entertainment have found their lead in Michael Ealy.
Described as more of a reboot of the 1990 film than a straight remake, the project boasts a script from Alison Rosenzweig and Jeff Buhler, who rewrote Jake Wade Wall’s original draft, and has David Rosenthal behind the camera.
Plot details are scarce at this point, but Variety’s report mentions that it will be a “modern-day paranoid action thriller about two brothers.” That doesn’t give us a whole lot to go on, but apparently the producers are hoping to “contemporize the story with new situations and characters but still maintain a story that examines issues and poses existential questions.”

Jacob’s Ladder recently turned 25 years old. Adrian Lyne‘s (Unfaithful) thriller didn’t perform spectacularly at the box office, but like some of the director’s other films, it’s aged considerably well. Back in 2013, we heard about a Jacob’s Ladder remake, which is finally moving forward with Michael Ealy (Almost Human) in the lead role. Learn more about the project below. A […]

The North American premiere of the film >A Single Shot was shown at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival, which stars Sam Rockwell as hunter John Moon. The 116 minute film was shot in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States and was directed by David Rosenthal. Written by Matthew F. Jones (who also wrote the book), the film follows the hunter as he accidentally kills a young woman and finds a large amount of money on her. As he tries to escape the wrath of the criminals looking to find him and the money, he finds himself putting his survival skills to the test for his ultimate existence.
The film also stars William H. Macy as Daggard Pitt who is a shady lawyer, Jeffrey Wright as Simon who is a drunk that is expected to move the plot along with his character but is rather impossible to understand within the film,...

Sam Rockwell is one of the greatest actors working today. If you’re not already in agreement with me, look over his diverse body of work. Rockwell has killed roles, both lead and supporting, in movies as weird as Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, as shattering as Conviction, and as breathtakingly original as Moon. Along the way, he’s played integral parts in classics like The Green Mile and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. He’s one of my favorite actors because, no matter how many great roles I see him in, he just sells it every time.
A Single Shot, a relentlessly bleak and atmospheric noir drama, is no exception. As hunter John Moon, who accidentally shoots and kills a young woman, only to uncover a huge amount of money she was guarding, Rockwell is absolutely terrific. It’s a very physical part for the actor,...

“It’s kind of like a detective movie but it’s set in the Appalachians,” is the way Sam Rockwell encapsulates his latest film, A Single Shot. Rockwell plays John, a true anti-hero who gets in way over his head after a hunting accident and finding a good deal of cash. What follows that opening is a dirty film noir, where you rarely know who to trust, despite having a positive attitude to all the familiar faces Rockwell is surrounded by in the film: Jeffrey Wright, William H. Macy, Joe Anderson, and Jason Isaacs. It’s an impressive ensemble that Rockwell relished working with. This adaptation was another opportunity for the acclaimed actor to transform himself in subtle ways, which, as Rockwell puts it, is always a bonus. Here’s what else Sam Rockwell had to say about A Single Shot, performing adaptations, and having to take risks: Which movies or characters did you watch for preparation...

Because, looking forward, 2013 promises to be such a fruitful cornucopia of cinema, we were excited to be able to easily list an additional 100 titles we are eagerly looking forward to catching in the new year. From these 200-101 titles, we’re happy to list several projects featuring the extremely busy Isabelle Huppert, include two English language projects, Ned Benson’s split film project The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby His/Hers and the Niels Arden Oplev film, Dead Man Down (and don’t forget her French projects, a starring turn in Serge Bozon’s followup, Tip Top as well as Guillaume Nicloux’s The Religious).
Additionally, the horror genre should be extremely noteworthy in the coming year, with new projects from Neil Marshall (The Descent), Alexandre Aja (High Tension), Fabrice Du Welz (Calvaire), Lucky McKee (May) and directing team Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury (Inside). The book will be published next summer and Blue Rider Press president and publisher David Rosenthal acquired the rights from David Vigliano and Anthony Mattero at Vigliano Associates. This guy has been through it all, winning the championship with devastating knockout power, making millions, and then suffering an unbelievable fall from grace. He lost his belt to Buster Douglas, the first time he was knocked out. Then he bit the ears off Evander Holyfield in the ring and was disqualified. There was a rape conviction and drug addiction, symbolizing a rage he was simply unable to control. He has finally pulled himself together, it seems. He headlined a well received one man...

If you're one of those people with an elevator phobia, and your co-workers always laugh at you when you walk ten flights of stairs to get to a meeting, and your friends always groan when you spit out the statistic that there are twenty to thirty elevator-related fatalities per year, then you'll have the last Mf laugh after reading this: Thursday night, after the premiere of Tribeca Films' critically acclaimed Janie Jones at the Gramercy Park Hotel, the director and stars of the films — including actors Josh Charles (pictured above) and Alessandro Nivola, director David Rosenthal and comedian Seth Herzog — fell eight stories from the rooftop bar before the emergency brake finally went off. The fourteen terrified passengers were stuck for more than half an hour before they all climbed out on their own, minutes before the Fdny arrived to help them evacuate. The next morning, Gramercy [...]...

After the New York premiere party of "Janie Jones," director David Rosenthal and actors Josh Charles (Four Brothers, Swat) and Alessandro Nivola (Jurassic Park 3, Face/Off) all stepped into an elevator on the sixteenth floor of the Gramercy Park Hotel. There were a total of twelve people inside the elevator, which stopped a few flights down to pick up more passengers. When the two additional people jumped in, the elevator started to plummet down. The door was still open and they could see the floors rushing by. "I think we fell eight stories before the emergency brake went off," said Rosenthal. "[The last passenger's] is lucky she didn't get killed because her foot was barely inside the door when the elevator dropped." The crowd of fourteen was stuck below the second floor. At first everyone was happy to be alive, but then started to panic as time passed. Eventually Alessandro's brother alerted...

HollywoodNews.com: Today you’ll read some glowing reviews for actors Alessandro Nivola and Abigail Breslin in a terrific indie film called “Janie Jones.” But Hollywood isn’t always glamorous. Late last night, firetrucks were suddenly called to the posh GramercyHotel, where the “Janie Jones” cast was partying after its premiere. Nivola, director David Rosenthal, the film’s producers, actor Josh Charles, and producer Celine Rattray got stuck in the elevator. This was not the usual glitch. The gang was stuck for almost 3o minutes until the Nyfd gallantly saved them.
Earlier at the party, both Nivola and Breslin performed for the partygoers, including actors Parker Posey, Celia Weston, Mitchell Lichtenstein, Nev Schulman, and journalist Annette Tapert, each showing off their musicianship.
Nivola, who is non pro but plays an errant rock star in the film, turns out to play a mean slide guitar. Breslin, who’s 15 and an Oscar nominee from “Little Miss Sunshine,...

But finally, for its 10th incarnation, the Tribeca Film Festival (April 20-May 1) seems to be about movies. Gone are the superfluous, attention-sucking Hollywood premieres (Tom Cruise on a Jet Ski, anyone?), and few are the big-name, low-quality vanity projects.
