This weekend marks the much-noted 50th anniversary of “The French Connection’s” release. “The Manor” perhaps inadvertently stirs memories of another William Friedkin joint, 1990 horror “The Guardian,” which was so disliked by the director that he omitted mentioning it in his otherwise fairly comprehensive memoirs. This addition to the second “Welcome to the Blumhouse” quartet of genre features likewise offers an evil tree-entity, to perhaps less campily absurd results — which is both a good and a bad thing.
Writer-director Axelle Carolyn’s second solo feature (following 2013’s ghost story “Soulmate”) provides a welcome starring vehicle for Barbara Hershey, who hasn’t had one in some years. But . Completing the current “Welcome” package, “The Manor” makes its Amazon Prime bow alongside “Madres” on Oct. 8.

We correctly guessed that the new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. director would be based on '40s era Marvel Comics hero The Patriot a while before Jeffrey Mace (Jason O'Mara) made his debut on the show, but so far there hasn't been any indication that he ever actually fought under that mantle. However, the second episode back just so happens to be titled "The Patriot", and based on what we learn from the synopsis below, that could well mean we'll get to see Mace suit-up. On the heels of an overall synopsis for the second half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s fourth season and a breakdown of the first episode back, we now have this intriguing tease for the following week’s installment, which is titled “The Patriot.” As many Marvel Comics fans rightfully guessed around the time he debuted on the show, the team’s new director Jeffrey Mace (Irish actor Jason O’Mara) is actually based on a character called the Patriot – a Golden Age superhero first introduced in the ’40s, who actually served under the mantle of Captain America for a time.
The show recently revealed that Mace was, in fact, an Inhuman, who appears to exhibit immense strength (the comic book incarnation didn’t actually posses any super powers at all), but from the sounds of things, they might also be planning on taking him back to his patriotic roots.
