Arnold Rifkin’s Cheyenne Enterprises has optioned screen rights on The Soul Seekers, the young adult book series by bestselling author Alyson Noel about a young girl who navigates between the worlds of the living and the dead.
The series is comprised of four books: Fated (available now), Echo (coming in November), Mystic, and Horizon (both of which will be released in 2013). There is Native American lore involved in the tale, and per Deadline, producer Rifkin is determined to cast the films with Native American actors when appropriate.
“I did a lot of research into Shamanism and Native American spirituality to create the world of The Soul Seekers series,” the author said. “In using these ancient practices and ideas as a jumping off point for the mystical world of the books, I tried to portray them in an authentic way and to do so with reverence. Wes Craven is going to be directing an upcoming comic book movie. He just needs to publish the comic book first.
Deadline is reporting that the "Nightmare on Elm Street" director is teaming with "30 Days of Night" creator Steve Niles to produce a new graphic novel called "Coming of Rage." Craven conceived the idea, and Niles put the ideas to paper. After it is released, the plan is to then develop the comic as a feature film.
"Coming of Rage" will be due in stores as both a five-issue comic series and graphic novel at some point next year.
This will be Craven and producer Arnold Rifkin's first publication through Liquid Comics, which they partnered with back in 2010. There's no word on what the series will be about, but Deadline is saying that "it is pretty clear that there'll be a healthy dose of horror, blood and suspense." The...

A press release was issued yesterday and my RSS feeds are still filling up with the news The Social Network producing partners Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti have won a bidding war and will produce the feature adaptation of E.L. James' bestselling Twilight fan fiction erotic novel "50 Shades of Grey" for Universal and Focus Features. So, what is the news here? Why is this a story? Let's check the tape and see what additional information anyone was able to bring to this story to even make it... a story. We'll begin, naturally, with the story itself... The Playlist: "50 Shades of Grey" began "as a 'Twilight' fantasy about Edward and Bella called 'Master of the Universe' that got too sexual for 'Twilight' fansites." Dark Horizons: "The story follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele." First Showing: The relationship between Anastasia and Christian is...

It was a reunion probably unlike anything Hollywood has ever seen. More than 250 alumni of the William Morris Agency, the storied talent agency created in 1898 and merged with Endeavor in 2009, gathered to reminisce (and network) Friday night at Mixology 101, a bar in Los Angeles’ Farmer’s Market with an apt name, given the wildly divergent and generational mix of agents and former agents in attendance. Fred Specktor, the CAA vet who agented at Wma from 1968 to 1978, rubbed shoulders with Arnold Rifkin, who acted as the agency¹s president in the 1990s. He was driven to the event

For those of you treading disbelief, I feel it is my duty to assure you that April Fools’ Day was indeed last month.
Though it may scream practical joke, it appears that Dominion: Dinosaurs vs. Aliens is going to make the jump from mad cheese dream to the big screen, with Men in Black 3 mastermind Barry Sonnenfield describing the chance to combine his childhood obsession with his professional bread and butter “a dream come true” (via Deadline).
Joining him on this bizarre project, which will start life as a graphic novel also written by Sonnenfeld, are Liquid Comics’ Arnold Rifkin and Sharad Devarajan – who will act as producers – and executive producer Gotham (best name ever) Chopra.
The graphic novel will concentrate on a prehistoric battle being waged between invading aliens and unexpectedly intelligent dinosaurs, and will enter print later this year.
So what do you think, humble yet exasperated reader?...

August 2012 will see a former Us president take on supernatural monsters in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter while the same month this year offers Wild West settlers battling spaceships in the comic book adaptation Cowboys & Aliens, also set in the 19th century.
But let's go back further for another unlikely showdown. Way back, before there were humans at all.
Men in Black director Barry Sonnenfeld is teaming up with Scottish comic book scribe Grant Morrison to develop a graphic novel, and then a film adaptation, called Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens.
Sounding like one of those cheesy TV movies (such as Komodo vs Cobra, Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus), the project has made waves across the internet as "amazing" or "dumbest idea ever."
What seems to give it a greater credibility is the involvement of highly-regarded Morrison who - along with Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman and others - was part of...

Men in Black director Barry Sonnenfeld is teaming up with comic book writer Grant Morrison to develop a graphic novel and film entitled Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens. The project is reportedly part of a deal with publishing/movie deal with Liquid Comics and producer Arnold Rifkin under his Cheyenne Enterprises. The film/graphic novel, illustrated by Mukesh Singh, will tell the story of:
…a secret prehistoric world war battle. When an alien invasion attacks Earth in the age of the dinosaurs, the planet’s only hope is the giants that roam the planet with, it turns out, a lot more intelligence than previously realized.
Morrison will write both the graphic novel, which will be published in print and digital formats later this year, and the script; whilst Sonnenfeld set to direct the movie.

Twenty years ago I discovered Scottish comic book writer Grant Morrison when he began writing DC Comics' Animal Man. Back then, Morrison had already penned a few stories for comics in the UK, but Animal Man was his introduction to North American audiences. When his book came out and I picked it up to thumb through it at my local comic book shop I didn't know who this Morrison guy was, just that the idea of a superhero whose powers come from animals sounded pretty dumb to me.
By the time I got to the final page of that first issue of Animal Man Morrison had me hooked to come back and see what happened in issue two. How did he do it? By having the hero's arm ripped off by a bad guy who also thought that having animal-based powers was stupid. There was this Animal Man guy,...

Much as I am genuinely looking forward to seeing Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens this summer, I now recognize that it is part of an insidious trend that absolutely must be stopped. As if the entire movie industry has suddenly become a playroom full of five-year-olds bashing their favorite action figures against each other, we're being buried under a pile of movies that assume "Awesome Thing A + Awesome Thing B = Awesomest Thing"-- except that the math almost never works that way. Next up on the docket: dinosaurs vs. aliens, specifically the movie Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens, coming at us from Men In Black III director Barry Sonnenfeld. Yes, once he's done plowing through the troubled third film in a series no one particularly wanted to see continued, Sonnenfeld will be working with Liquid Comics and producer Arnold Rifkin on a story that will be developed as a graphic novel...

This year we get to see hostile extraterrestrials invading during the days of the Old West in Jon Favreau's "Cowboys vs. Aliens". A few years from now though, the outer space buggers are planning to go even further back in time than that.
"Men in Black" film series director Barry Sonnenfeld and comic writer Grant Morrison are teaming to develop "Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens", a cross-platform property to be produced as both a graphic novel and a movie reports Deadline.
The comic, to be published through Liquid Comics later this year, chronicles a secret prehistoric battle when aliens invade Earth. Our only hope is dinosaurs who turn out to be a lot more intelligent than previously realised.
Sonnenfeld will direct the film and will produce with Arnold Rifkin and Sharad Devarajan.

I, personally, feel that the whole “mash-up” thing has hit a low point, with Michael Bay‘s production Zombies Vs. Robots likely being how it was reached. Even something like Cowboys & Aliens feels a little forced to me, but at least there are talented people behind that.
