No, it's not a serial killer's bucket list.
The annual Blood List represents the best dark genre screenplays in Hollywood that have yet to be made. It’s a great way to support community and get word out about all the original films that should be on Hollywood’s radar.
Here’s how it works straight from the source:
The Blood List was created in 2009 to bring attention to darker, genre unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. A calendar year for a script to be considered for the list is from October 31st to October 31st. Voting is done by 100 industry insiders. The list is known as the 'Top horror screenplays list' but also has scripts in the sci fi, fantasy, thriller, and dark comedy space as well.
Genres included on the list are: Horror, thriller, sci-fi, dark drama, and dark comedies. This year 117 feature executives voted. Each executive chose their top...

He’s photographed naked women for Roger Corman, made a movie called Mutant Vampire Zombies from the Hood!, helmed an Asylum mockbuster that spawned a major studio lawsuit, nearly made a mega blockbuster for a major studio, and, best of all, his name really is Thunder.
With The Asylum’s lawsuit-inspiring mockbuster American Warships premiering on Syfy this weekend (May 19th at 9/8 Central) and hitting DVD shelves next week (May 22nd), I chatted with its writer-director, Thunder Levin, about the trials and tribulations of making an Asylum mockbuster, graduating from the school of Corman, and navigating the pitfalls of the b-movie scene filmmaking.
Foy: Forgive me. I have to ask a question you’ve no doubt been asked many times before. Your first name is really Thunder? That’s not just a nickname?
Thunder: (sigh) Yeah, I’ve been asked that a few times before. Yes, Thunder is my real name.

There’s nothing quite like the charm of a haunted house film – the skin-crawling sound design, the intricate ghost story, the cute family that grows increasingly unhinged – the vengeful spirit(s) that stalks them without reason. Sure, these classic staples have been done to death by now and every creaky floorboard or sludge-filled bathtub has been milked dry, but that loveable charm still remains, even in the worst of the bunch.
From the beginning, A Haunting In Salem demonstrates that it retains aforementioned charm with a killer opening, showcasing all the loveable aspects horror buffs have come to expect from the haunted house film. This opening is unsettling; it’s startling and best of all it’s an intriguing hook to reel you in for what’s to come. That’s all very well but the thing that I’m most interested in as both...

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by The Asylum.
Director: Shane Van Dyke.
Writers: H. Perry Horton.
Everyone needs a guilty pleasure and this reviewer enjoys an occasional The Asylum production. Their latest is called A Haunting in Salem and this title released on DVD October 4th and in a 3D Blu-Ray format as well. This horror title stars Bill Oberst Jr. (The Shunning), Gerald Webb and Courtney Abbiati in a mostly thrilling straight-to-video release. The film is loosely based on the Salem witch trials of 1692 and this film fan enjoyed the story, gore effects and musical score from composer Chris Ridenhour.
The film begins with three murders in under five minutes and clearly this is a film unafraid of restricted territory. The final scene in a series of shots involves a sheriff flying off of a two story roof to his death. Then, another sheriff...

Welcome to the second installment of Blogomatic3000′s soundtrack round-up, this time focusing on the scores of Chris Ridenhour and in particular his work with mockbuster kings The Asylum.
Chris Ridenhour moved to Los Angeles in the late 90’s to work for film composer/orchestrator Todd Hayen and his wife Janice. During his tenure with the Hayens, Chris worked on the scores of Mark Isham, Lalo Schifrin, Gary Chang, John Debney, Shirley Walker, and many others.
in 2007 Ridenhour began composing for the production company The Asylum — with things taking off after he composed the music for Journey to the Center of the Earth in 2008. Since that time he has worked on about twenty of their films, including the widely popular Megashark vs Giant Octopus, Princess of Mars, Mega Piranha, Dragonquest,The Hitchhiker, and Transmorphers.

Another comic-to-film adaptation is in the pipeline, this one from Twisted Pictures, the company most known for its Saw films. It's called Sorrow and is the brainchild of Rick Remender, Seth Peck, and Francesco Francavilla published by Image Comics.
You may recall that Twisted Pictures was in the news recently due to its efforts to acquire the rights to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and then prepare another remake ... in 3D. Nothing firm has been announced on that front yet, but Twisted is hardly sitting around twiddling its thumbs. According to Shock Till You Drop Twisted's Mark Burg and Oren Koules will produce Sorrow along with Erick Salomon, Chris Ridenhour, and Andrew Wilson. Michael Hidalgo is writing the script and had this to say about the project: ""Rick, Seth, and Francesco have created a throwback to '70s and '80s horror/thriller films with the perfect mix of terror and memorable characters.

If you frequent the world wide web you've probably noticed The Hills Run Red reviews running rampant across countless sites. While it's a pretty kick ass flick I think it's important to remember it's not the only kick ass flick to hit shelves this week. Rather, this past Tuesday was a very significant day for the genre, as a whole load of quality flicks were unleashed on the public. So I took it upon myself to shed light on a few you may have missed.
First off, we'll take a look at the George Bessudo directed mind bender Farmhouse (see Scott Licina's lengthy review here), which totes a bit of a Dante's Inferno vibe. The story sees a young troubled couple (Scarlet, played by Jamie Anne Allman and Chad played by William Lee Scott) crash their car in the middle of a hardly inhabited countryside. The two are fortunate to find a farmhouse nearby,...

Ally McBeal star Gil Bellows is teaming with Kissing Jessica Stein star Jennifer Westfeldt to star in writer-director Stu Pollard's indie dramedy Keep Your Distance. Christian Kane, Kim Raver, Elizabeth Pena, Stacy Keach, Jamie Harrold, Rick Overton and Cynthia Martells round out the cast. Shooting is under way in Kentucky. A native of Kentucky, Pollard is repped by Innovative Artists Agency and Chris Ridenhour at Tavel Entertainment. He made his directorial debut in 1999's Nice Guys Sleep Alone. Stephen Susco is in negotiations to adapt The Grudge for Senator International and Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's Senator-based genre arm Ghost House Pictures. The project is the English-language remake of the Japanese horror hit Ju-On, produced by Taka Ichise and written and directed by Takashi Shimizu. Susco will adapt the work, which centers on a murderous supernatural curse spawned from a grudge held by a person who dies in the grip of powerful anger. The curse is then passed -- like a virus -- from victim to victim in a growing chain of horror across a quiet neighborhood. Raimi and Tapert are producing the redo along with Ichise. Shimizu is set to direct for Ghost House and Senator International. Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Doug Davison will executive produce with co-producer Shin Shimosawa. At Senator, the project is being overseen by Nathan Kahane. Susco is repped by Agency for the Performing Arts, Tavel Entertainment's Chris Ridenhour and attorney Alan Hergott. He previously sold the untitled Harvard heist script to Escape Artists and Dumbstruck to Universal Pictures.
