Back in 1922 Campton Manor was the scene of an unexplained mass death, twenty-eight guests at a New Year’s party died of heart attacks at the same time. There was no trace of poison, and the case was never solved. The mansion has, needless to say, sat empty ever since.
Decades later, the film seems to be set in the 1950s, Teddy is a detective and a horror novelist. He’s helped in both of these careers by his ability to see, and talk to, the dead. Right now he’s more concerned with Jack. Despite his secretary’s best efforts, Jack keeps turning up in his office talking about Campton Manor, in fact he’s rather insistent that Teddy investigate it.

Sydney Sweeney‘s second film of 2024 is finally here, let’s hope that it doesn’t turn into a disaster like the first one. Produced by Sweeney herself, Immaculate is a psychological horror film and it follows the story of a young nun who joins a convent in the Italian countryside. Her quiet life quickly turns into a nightmare because of the horrific secrets hidden in the convent. Directed by Michael Mohan, Immaculate also stars Simona Tabasco, Benedetta Porcaroli, and Álvaro Morte. So, if you loved Sweeney’s horror film here are some similar movies you should check out next.
The Convent
Co-written and directed by Paul Hyett, the 2018 film British horror film titled The Convent gives a similar atmosphere to Sweeney’s Immaculate. The Convent tells us the story of a group of young women seeking refuge from the turmoil of World War II in an isolated convent in the countryside.

Director Vincenzo Natali's "Cube" is a movie that has earned its place in horror history. Released in 1997 (and more recently remade in Japan), the film was ahead of the curve in several ways, particularly when it came to its ridiculously brutal kill scenes. Anyone who has seen the movie will probably tell you that no kill scene is quite as memorable as that of Alderson's. Played by Julian Richings, he ends up being cut into, well, cubes. Turns out, this impressively gross kill was accomplished with practical visual effects.
The most recent edition of SFX Magazine did a retrospective on "Cube" and Natali provided some insight for the piece. For those who may need a refresher, the film centers on a group of strangers who wake up and find themselves in a giant cube. Each of them has a special skill and they must work together to escape the massive maze of deadly traps.

On the 8th day of Creepmas, we’re celebrating the Victorian holiday tradition of sharing ghost stories. Telling ghost stories during winter was a folk custom that dated back centuries but slowly faded over time. Any tradition that involves scaring each other with horror stories feels like one worth reviving, so today’s Creepmas festivities embrace holiday horror movies that center around ghosts and hauntings. The eight titles below run the gamut from inducing warm holiday feels to ghostly insanity to chilling terror.
The 12 Days of Creepmas continues on Bloody Disgusting, this time with 8 Christmas ghosts to haunt your holiday season.
Keep track of the 12 Days of Creepmas here.

Plot: A man from the future, now trapped in the past, tries to live a lowkey life without disrupting predetermined events, oblivious to the consequences of his foolish actions.
Review: Traveling to the past is a risky business. If you’re not careful, the slightest mistake could alter the course of history, triggering a domino effect of events never intended. Your best strategy to survive the ordeal is to lay low, complete your mission, and return to your time. In Relax, I’m From the Future, Casper (Rhys Darby) thinks rules are malleable and gaming the system to live comfortably is worth the risk of upending the universe. He isn’t looking to harm anyone, quite the opposite. Still, Casper isn’t the brightest crayon in the box, and when things don’t work out as intended, he quickly discovers it takes more than one person to make a difference.

I’ve watched enough Doctor Who to know time is a complicated construct with rules fluctuating from one interpretation to the next. Thankfully, Rhys Darby’s Casper has time travel all figured out in Relax, I’m From the Future, a new time-traveling comedy that finally breaks the multiversal merry-go-round we’ve been riding for the past few years. In today’s exclusive Relax, I’m From the Future clip, Casper dismisses the Butterfly Effect and misinformation about multiple realities.
The scene finds Casper and Holly (Gabrielle Graham) discussing multiversal misnomers in a dimly lit diner over piping hot mugs of jitter juice. Casper explains how there’s only one reality, and that time is more like a mushy blob than anything we’ve seen in movies. Doc Brown lied to us, folks! Oh, the humanity! While branching paths in the timeline exist, they eventually converge in the same direction, leading toward a pre-determined future.

"You're a very disappointing time traveler." Blue Fox Ent. has revealed an official US trailer for an indie sci-fi comedy from Canada titled Relax, I'm From the Future, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Luke Higginson. The film premiered at a few festivals in Canada earlier in 2023, and is now set to open in art house theaters in the US later this month. A man from the future, now trapped in the past, tries to make a life for himself, oblivious to the consequences he has set in motion. Rhys Darby stars as Casper, who is now in his "past", our present, who teams up with a nonconformist skeptic to bring about his "plan" of saving the world. The cast also includes Gabrielle Graham, Julian Richings, and Janine Theriault. It looks like a properly wacky indie creation that seems just goofy enough to be mostly enjoyable. Have fun. // Continue...

When he’s not pining for Blackbeard’s embrace on Our Flag Means Death or reprimanding werewolves for using foul language, Rhys Darby fights for the future of humankind! Blue Fox Entertainment‘s Relax, I’m From The Future trailer is here to tickle your ribs after the long Labor Day weekend. The sci-fi comedy hails from Luke Higginson for his feature directorial debut. In addition to operating the camera, Higginson wrote the screenplay and edited the film inspired by his short film of the same name that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 10 years ago.
In the Relax, I’m From The Future trailer, Darby stars as Casper, a time traveler trapped in the past who befriends Holly (Gabrielle Graham), a jaded drifter. They exploit his knowledge of the future, oblivious to the consequences they have set in motion, while a more competent time traveler, Doris (Janine Theriault), tries to stop them.

A new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series has just been released, and in this one we’re looking back at the slasher Urban Legend (watch it Here), which – I am disturbed to say, as someone who saw it on the big screen back in the day – is already celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. To find out all about this movie, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Jamie Blanks from a screenplay by Silvio Horta, Urban Legend has the following synopsis: A university is beset by a rash of gruesome murders that resemble old urban legends. When her friend Michelle is killed by someone hiding in her car, Natalie begins to notice the pattern. Her suspicions grow stronger when her own roommate is strangled to death. Soon the quiet college campus is transformed into hunting grounds for a maniac, and Natalie struggles...

A mother and her young son move to a new small town. They soon discover the town harbors a dark secret, and it’s a race against time to save the town.
There’s a certain quality to Richard Boddington‘s Wickensburg that feels so incredibly cheap despite having some admittedly fun ideas, even if they, too, can be a bit familiar. It’s a highly strange film for that reason. So much of this film on paper should’ve worked. It should’ve been a big ‘ol campy blast but instead, it’s just… kinda… bad.
It also doesn’t help that the film looks as if it was made on a high-school student’s budget. The lighting in nearly every scene looks poorly done, as does the overall cinematography.

Everything comes down to this, and Reginald got put to the test.
The vampire assessment took center stage on Reginald the Vampire Season 1 Episode 10.
The biggest question of the episode: did Reginald pass the vampire assessment?
The vampire assessment took most of the hour, and Reginald exceeded expectations.
It all came down to the final two tests, and he needed to pass both of them to be able to pass mathematically.
Logan, played by the genre icon Julian Richings (Cube (1997), Orphan Black), turned out to be an extremely menacing vampire, but that didn't stop Reginald.
Reginald took many jabs at the head honcho, which caused him to get angry, but, as revealed later in the episode, that was the plan all along.
Reginald passed some complex tests throughout the exam, including the second to last one: transporting a nest of hornets across the room.
Luckily, Reginald knew how to do...

We’ve been fortunate to cover Fantasia multiple times over the years and it, along with Frightfest and Grimmfest, are staples of Nerdly’s genre festival coverage. What’s so great about Fantasia is the eclectic nature of the films they screen – new films, old films, international films, weird films, documentaries… Fantasia films run the gamut of genres, tastes and subject matter. And it’s now in its 25th(!) year of doing so!
With that in mind here are a few films that stood out to me from the announced schedule and, hopefully, a few we’ll get to bring you reviews of in the near future! You can also check out Alain’s preview of Fantasia right here.
Final Cut (Coupez!) After opening this year’s Cannes, Final Cut (Coupez!), Michel Hazanavicius’s riotous remake of Shinichirou Ueda’s One Cut Of The Dead, is coming to North America.

Maria (Susanne Wuest) is jolted awake by a hawk flying straight into the window of her corner office. Only she seems to notice while the rest of her drone-like coworkers type at their keyboards. Where some might have laughed out of shock or disregarded the event as one more example of man’s intellectual superiority over the animal kingdom, Maria sees aspiration. That bird cracked its skull because it was free. It believed itself able to fly anywhere that appeared open and was only thwarted by an anomaly rather than a rule. She bangs her head against the proverbial wall of complacent monotony because she’s accepted her place within a society of exploitation and oppression. Is it better to live without living? Or to die having lived?

What would you do for a habanero-orange compact sport utility vehicle? Blowing as many balloons as possible in one minute seems like an easy enough task, but what about fetching a human earlobe? These are the questions at the heart of “Stanleyville,” or at least they seem to be. In reality, director Maxwell McCabe-Lokos’ debut feature uses the bizarre “platinum-level exclusive contest” at its center as a metaphor for self-actualization — even if achieving it requires more than a little self-destruction along the way. With a firm commitment to its alluringly offbeat premise and a grounding lead performance from Susanne Wuest, this indie oddity is an enjoyable descent into the absurd despite an apparent lack of interest in answering most of the questions it raises.

"[It's] like an episode of 'Survivor' for sociopathic miscreants who've inhaled enough helium to induce a psychotic break." OScope Labs has revealed an official trailer for a strange indie comedy from Canada titled Stanleyville, which originally premiered at last year's Fantasia Film Festival. This looks totally wacky and weird, almost even indescribable. A dissatisfied woman abandons her career and her family when she gets the chance to compete in a bizarre and dangerously flawed contest. The prize: a brand new habanero-orange compact SUV. Huh. This seems like it's "Squid Game" mashed up with Yorgos Lanthimos mashed up with "Survivor" or something like that. Starring Susanne Wuest, with Cara Ricketts, Christian Serritiello, George Tchortov, Adam Brown, and Julian Richings. I'm not quite what to make of this film, but I'm certainly intrigued. Often, the best movies tell a very simple story but they tell that story extremely well and Hall, featured at both Frightfest and Blood in the Snow festivals, is no different. From the very start we see a group of people in a hotel hallway, struggling with a debilitating sickness that seems to have spread through them all, each trying to escape the horror of it.
Like I say, this is all in the opening scene so where does it go from there? Well maybe unsurprisingly the movie goes back in time to show us some of the stories about why people are in the hotel and the issues they are having there. The locations don’t stray away from the hotel though...

Who will navigate their way out of the hotel corridor through the long and narrow stretch of isolated carnage? Starring Julian Richings, Carolina Bartczak, Yumiko Shaku, Mark Gibson, & Vlasta Vrana. In Spare Parts, Andrew Thomas Hunt’s second directorial effort, an emerging all-female punk rock band from Canada – called Ms .45 – is touring the United States. Not long after one of their seedy bar gigs turns into a brawl, the four young women end up living a nightmare. The main scenario of the movie is a scrapyard, where the unthinkable happens. Women and men are subjected to a crazy surgery, their limbs are replaced with weapons such as an ax, a chainsaw or a flamethrower. Eventually, they become modern gladiators, under the yoke of the so-called Emperor (Julian Richings), his son (Jason Rouse) and other followers who want to please the gods with the spilling of blood....

In a godforsaken bar in the middle of nowhere – an all-girl punk band, Ms. 45, rip the stage apart with their anarchy spirit. Their performance impresses an enthusiastic fan who lures the girls into a trap, sedates them, and starts… customizing them. The four wake up with an axe, drill or chainsaw attached to one arm and are forced to fight gladiator-style, in an arena-style auto-wrecking yard for the amusement of the Emperor and his sadistic townsfolk. The women must now truly band together and use all of their talents if they’re going to get out alive.

Members of a punk band are forced to fight for their lives after their limbs are weaponized in Andrew Thomas Hunt's Spare Parts, and with the film now on VOD, Digital, DVD, and Blu-ray from Rlje Films, we caught up with Andrew in our latest Q&a feature to discuss the making of his action-packed movie.
Thanks for taking the time to answer questions for us, Andrew, and congratulations on your new movie, Spare Parts! What was it in particular about this screenplay by David Murdoch and Svet Rouskov that made you want to bring this story to life on screen?
Andrew Thomas Hunt: I just loved the basic concept, and how the film was a mash-up of multiple genres. Though when the film was first pitched to me, the girls were actually rock climbers, but along the way we thought it would be a lot more fun to...

Grimmfest keep on delivering the goods despite a worldwide pandemic. Their latest treat comes along with the May Bank Holiday and includes Cody Calahan’s latest movie Vicious Fun.
Set in the eighties, the crazy story has us follow a horror movie journalist (instantly relatable to a big chunk of this films audience!) who somehow ends up in a self-help group for serial killers. When his attempts at blending in don’t go to plan he has to work out a way to survive… I’m glad the word fun is in the title of this movie. It is often something that people seem to think is a less than positive way of describing films. But I love films that are fun and it is a perfect description here.

Rlje Films is releasing Justin G. Dyck's horror flick Anything For Jackson VOD, Digital, DVD & Blu-ray on June 15th. Taking a break away from spending most of his career making made-for-tv Christmas and falling-in-love-in-the-most-expected-areas romance movies Dyck teamed up with Canadian acting royalty Sheila McCarthy and Julian Richings to bring this darkly comic horror film about coping with grief after a tragic loss. A bereaved Satanist couple kidnap a pregnant woman so they can use an ancient spellbook to put their dead grandson's spirit into her unborn child but end up summoning more than they bargained for. Our own Josh Hurtado caught the film when it played during the online collaborative festival Nightstream last Fall. Anything for Jackson wouldn't be...

"We can do this! He's coming back to us..." Rlje Films has released an official trailer for a super freaky new horror thriller titled Anything for Jackson, from filmmaker Justin G. Dyck. This originally premiered at the Fantasia and Nightstream Film Festivals last year, and it's arriving on VOD soon. A bereaved Satanist couple kidnap a pregnant woman so they can use an ancient spellbook to put their dead grandson's spirit into her unborn child but end up summoning more than they bargained for. This looks like a crazy twist on the unusual "we want to bring back our kid" story, involving grandparents and some truly messed up evil, making them regret their resurrection. The film stars Sheila McCarthy, Julian Richings, Konstantina Mantelos, and Yannick Bisson. This looks like it has unsettling scares and crazy twists once it gets going. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Justin G. Dyck's Anything for Jackson,...

Hello, everyone! Throughout the month of April, I’m going to be offering up some streaming suggestions in support of our ongoing Indie Horror Month celebration, and today, we’re celebrating 13 different films that are currently streaming on Shudder. For this list, I tried to offer up some titles that have either been on the platform for a while now, so maybe they’ve gotten lost in the mix (since Shudder regularly updates their service with so much killer content), or they’ve generally just flown under the radar of most fans. So, while I absolutely adore movies like Host or Mandy, I felt like horror fans in general are already tuned in to those masterpieces, and I wanted to give a few other films a shot at glory here as well.

"What if I choose death instead?!" "You're not ready to die, so fight for your life." Rlje Films has released an official trailer for a crazy body horror punk rock film called Spare Parts, now set for release in June this summer. Made by Canadian filmmaker Andrew T. Hunt, the film follows an all-girl punk band named Ms. 45 - they get kidnapped after a show in the wrong part of town. They wake up to find that they’ve had their limbs replaced with crude mechanized weapons, and their only chance for survival is to fight in a dirty arena for the amusement of a blood-hungry cult. The film stars Michelle Argyris, Emily Alatalo, Jason Rouse, Kiriana Stanton, Chelsea Muirhead, Ryan Allen, and Julian Richings. It's described as "if Sushi Typhoon's Machine Girl gets a make-over with the staging props of Mad Max." We featured the teaser trailer for this last year,...

In his latest podcast/interview, host and screenwriter Stuart Wright talks to director Justin G Dyck about making the horror film Anything For Jackson, which is out now via Shudder.
After losing their only grandson, Jackson, in a car accident, grief-stricken Audrey (Sheila McCarthy) and Henry (Julian Richings), a doctor, kidnap Henry’s pregnant patient with the intention of performing a “reverse exorcism,” putting Jackson inside her unborn child. It doesn’t take long to figure out Jackson isn’t the only ghost the grandparents invited into their home. Now, it’s a race against time for the couple, as well as the pregnant woman, to figure a way out of the haunting they’ve set upon themselves.

After a successful festival run, Justin G. Dyck’s Anything for Jackson made its debut on Shudder earlier this month. Starring Julian Richings, Sheila McCarthy, and Konstantina Mantelos, the film is centered around a grieving pair of grandparents who kidnap a young woman in hopes of transferring the soul of their deceased grandson into her soon-to-be born child, and as expected, things don’t exactly go according to plan.
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with Dyck about his latest directorial effort, and he discussed his collaborative process with the film’s writer, Keith Cooper, bringing on his talented ensemble for Anything for Jackson, the inspiration behind the film’s collection of spooky spectres, and more.

In a riotously gory inversion of the Christmas story, an older couple plan to channel the ghost of their dead grandson into an unborn child
There’s something deliciously subversive about the backstory to this offbeat horror film, which was made in Canada. Director Justin G Dyck and screenwriter Keith Cooper have collaborated on a long list of treacly, holiday-themed, made-for-tv movies with titles such as A Very Country Christmas, Christmas With a View and A Christmas Village. Anything for Jackson, however, is a riotously gory, impish inversion of all things yuletide, in that it stars sweet-featured elderly character actors Sheila McCarthy and Julian Richings as grieving grandparents Audrey and Henry Walsh, who kidnap pregnant Shannon Becker (Konstantina Mantelos) in order to perform a satanic ritual on her. It’s as if Ruth Gordon and Sidney Blackmer, the little old couple who lived next door in Rosemary’s Baby, got to...

Dealings with demons never go well. One need read only a smattering of occult literature to know that. Henry (Julian Richings) and Audrey (Sheila McCarthy) have read a great deal. They're willing to risk it anyway. For them, it's not about wealth or knowledge or power or any of the usual things. It's about a small, sandy-haired boy: Jackson, their grandson, dead thanks to a car accident but never for a moment out of their minds.
It's hard to condemn a couple like this, no matter what they do. There's a wonderful scene about a third of the way into the film where Audrey meets her husband in the park, squeezes a few drops of blood onto a dead crow and reads aloud from an ancient book - the sort of tome that cinema usually shows us only in hoary, ancient libraries whose velvet draperies are as heavy as the air,...

The day Audrey (Sheila McCarthy) and Henry Walsh’s (Julian Richings) grandson Jackson died was the day they sold their souls to the Devil—figuratively speaking, of course. It wasn’t until they joined a Satanist church run by a bunch of posers in a community center that the idea to bring him back became more than simply a fantasy. That’s where they learned about an ancient book of dark magic possessing the means to do so and how they might find it. With all questions about its legitimacy evaporated after one of its spells inexplicably helps a dead crow fly again, the time finally arrived to fulfill their intention of transferring Jackson’s soul into another woman’s (Konstantina Mantelos’ Becker) unborn baby so that he may live once more.
We meet this trio on the day of the kidnapping only to learn the Walshs left nothing to chance.

Punk Rock Gladiators. As far as genre movie set-ups go, few three-word combos could muster the same levels of excitement as Andrew Thomas Hunt’s Mad Max-inspired junkyard battle royale. Even with just those words, you can feel Spare Parts as the fun-loving, hyper-violent crowd movie it desperately wants to be; the sort of Rollerball-esque anti-sports, anti-underdog movie that rockets through the midnight circuit. So it’s a bit of a crying shame that a great deal of those lofty ambitions end up falling foul to a limbless script, and a budget that just won’t stretch far enough to deliver the goods.
Run off the road in the middle of a backwards desert town, all-female four-piece Ms. 45 find themselves prisoners in the middle of a literal trash-heap, and at the mercy of a decidedly backwards emperor (a slightly under-hammed Julian Richings). After a quick spot of junkyard...

Grief is a powerful emotion. It can take over our lives, color our days, and lead us to do the most unimaginable things. The story of Anything for Jackson is fueled by such grief. It follows Henry and Audrey Walsh (Julian Richings and Sheila McCarthy), an elderly couple grieving the tragic loss of their daughter and grandson and looking for answers. They find those answers in a Satanic cult. Their studies lead them to an ancient ritual that promises the resurrection of their grandson, Jackson, through the host body of a young woman’s unborn child.
As the film opens, they kidnap their intended target, the very pregnant Shannon (Konstantina Mantelos), and hold her hostage while they attempt to perform the ritual and bring their beloved Jackson back into their lives. Though well-intentioned, their actions are driven by a pact with the Devil, and such things never work out the way you expect them to.

The loss of a child is one the most tragic experiences a person can endure, but the loss of a grandchild can be just as painful. The idea that a loved one who was supposed to long outlive you and carry your memory into their own happy future can be ripped away without warning can be tragic and painful. But what if you could fix things? What if you could reverse that horrible emptiness with a simple sacrifice? Not a sacrifice of your own, of course, but someone else, someone you don't really know or care about. Is trading their loss for your own gain worthwhile? For Dr. Henry Walsh (Julian Richings) and his wife, Audrey (Sheila McCarthy), it is worth the risk, but these...
