Did Kanye West mine another artist's work for "Gold Digger" and forget to tell anybody? That's what the children of late Thunder & Lightning musician David Pryor claim in a multimillion-dollar copyright infringement lawsuit filed this week against West, in which they allege that he wrongfully sampled their dad's "get down" chants from the 1974 tune "Bumpin' Bus Stop." "Gold Digger," which most prominently borrowed from Ray Charles' "I Got a Woman," was a single off of West's 2005 album Late Registration—and Pryor's kids admit that the timing of their complaint seems a bit off. "The complaint makes clear that 'Gold...

Kanye West is being sued for allegedly using unlicensed samples in his music, yet again.
TMZ reports that the children of a deceased musician named David Pryor has filed a lawsuit against the 35-year-old rapper, alleging that he sampled a very small part of the song "Bumpin' Bus Stop," which Pryor wrote and sang with his band Thunder & Lightning in 1974.
Pryor's children, Trena Steward and Lorenzo Pryor, claim that 13 seconds into Kanye's 2005 smash hit "Gold Digger," is a lyric sampled from Pryor's song. The three are alleging that if you listen carefully, you can hear Pryor singing "Get Down" three times, echoing West singing, "Get down girl, go head, get down."
The pair, who each own one-quarter of the song, have asked a judge to stop the sale of the song and provide them with, "millions of dollars" in damages for the allegedly unlicensed sample.

(Spoiler warning: Don't read this if you don't want to know what happened on "Mad Men" Sunday) Jaguar took to Jalopnik to post a lengthy response to its portrayal on "Mad Men" this season -- including a scene in which Lane Harris tries to gas himself in one of their cars, but can't because of starter trouble. "We have never been so happy to see our car not start," wrote David Pryor and Stuar Schorr. They are Jaguar North America's vice presidents of marketing and communications, respectively. One of the more interesting elements of AMC's series Mad Men has been the way its used real company's and brands. Of course, this isn't simple product integration. For every beautiful Kodak Carousel pitch, there are plenty of company's whose fictional execs are shows as behind the times, blind in the face of Don Draper's genius, or even out and out creeps like Lucky Strike's angry closet case. However, perhaps no one's gotten depicted as poorly as the folks from Jaguar cars this past Sunday, which is why it's so fun to read Ad Age's interview with JaguarUSA's VP-brand development, David Pryor.

Sunday night's Mad Men may have explicitly linked Jaguar to the shady, salacious business of kept women and even outright prostitution, but as they say in advertising, "There's no such thing as bad publicity, even if it makes your brand seem like the sole province of wealthy assholes." In fact, in an interview with AdAge regarding the company's portrayal, JaguarUSA's David Pryor says that it was "gratifying" to see the luxury car featured so prominently on the show, though he did say that they were "fairly surprised at the turn of events"—a plot twist about ...

Most companies would be thrilled to appear in a multi-episode arc on Mad Men — that is, until one of its fictional executives sparks one of the most salacious plot lines in the show's history. Yet, David Pryor, VP of brand development for JaguarUSA, tells AdAge that he thoroughly enjoyed seeing Scdp woo the brand this season, even if the experience was sullied a bit with talk of mixing business and prostitution.Mad Men researchers contacted Jaguar's archivist about what the brand's advertising and showrooms looked like in the sixties, but the company wasn't given any input in the story (or even a heads-up about the potential PR problem). Pryor, who's a "big fan" of the show, had no idea what was coming when he sat down to watch Sunday's episode, and says, "I would say we were fairly surprised at the turn of events," adding, "Obviously it was kind of...
