Violinist Loren Powell, who was born 27 February 1896, played in the MGM studio orchestra and in The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He studied conducting with Eugene Goossens and conducted The Santa Maria Community Orchestra and The San Luis Obispo Orchestra, both in California. During a rehearsal with the latter musicians, Powell collapsed on the podium and died on 15 May 1965.
