The international trailer for “A Whole Life,” which will have its world premiere in the Gala section of the Zürich Film Festival (Sept. 28 to Oct. 8), has debuted with Variety (below). Picture Tree Intl. is handling world sales.
The film, which will be released in Germany on Nov. 8 by Tobis Filmverleih, will have its North American premiere at Newport Beach, followed by its Canadian premiere at Whistler.
“A Whole Life” is based on the bestselling novel by Robert Seethaler, and was adapted for the screen by Ulrich Limmer, whose credits include Oscar nominee “Schtonk.”
The book, first published in 2014, has been translated into 40 languages and was described as a “novel of the century” in several reviews. In German-speaking countries, it has sold more than 1.6 million copies.

Picture Tree Intl. has acquired international sales on “A Whole Life,” which is based on the bestselling novel by Robert Seethaler, and was adapted for the screen by Ulrich Limmer, whose credits include Oscar nominee “Schtonk.”
The film is directed by Hans Steinbichler, whose films include Berlin Film Festival entry “The Diary of Anne Frank,” and the third season of pay TV operator Sky’s TV series “Das Boot.” Austrian actor Stefan Gorski takes the lead role.

Picture Tree Intl. has picked up the global sales rights on comedy drama “Risks and Side Effects,” which follows a woman’s kidney transplant journey that threatens to break-up her friendships and marriage. The sales agency will launch sales at the European Film Market (March 1-5). Variety has been given exclusive access to the trailer.
Austrian helmer Michael Kreihsl wrote and directed the film, which is based on a play of the same name by Stefan Vögel. It stars Samuel Finzi and Inka Friedrich (“God You’re Such a Pr—“), alongside Pia Hierzegger and Thomas Mraz (“The Tobacconist”).

Berlin film festival schedules special screenings in memory of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Maximilian Schell.
The 64th Berlin International Film Festival will pay tribute to Us actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died suddenly on Sunday, with a special screening of Capote.
The biopic, for which Hoffman won the Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Actor, will be screened at the CinemaxX 6 on Feb 11 at 9pm.
The Berlinale screened Bennett Miller’s Capote in Competition in 2006.
Hoffman also appeared in other films that screened at the Berlinale, such as Richard Kwietniowski’s Owning Mahowny (Panorama 2003); Spike Lee’s 25th Hour (Competition 2003); Anthony Minghella’s The Talented Mr. Ripley; and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia, winner of the Golden Bear in 2000.
