AMSTERDAM -- The Endemol supervisory board on Wednesday announced the nomination of Elias Rodriguez-Vina Cancio as chairman and chief executive of the company. His appointment will be put to an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders to be called shortly, Endemol said in a statement. The nomination follows the resignation of Joaquim Agut, who left Endemol last week for personal reasons, mainly related to the extensive traveling between Holland and Spain, where he lives. Rodriguez-Vina Cancio will chair the company's management board, joining its other three members: chief operating officer Tom Barnicoat, chief creative officer Peter Bazalgette and chief financial officer Jan Peter Kerstens. The nomination has their full support. Rodriguez-Vina Cancio comes from Endemol parent company Telefonica, where he has been responsible for the group's non-core subsidiaries. Before that he was chief financial officer of Terra Lycos and worked for such companies as Arthur Andersen, General Electric and UBS.
