More than 500 additional Hollywood figures signed the letter overnight condemning Jonathan Glazer’s Oscars 2024 speech for his best international film win for The Zone of Interest.
The letter, which was published yesterday with 450 signees already attached, denounced the director’s speech, mimicking his own phrasing at the awards show on March 10. The signatories include actors, executives, directors, creators, producers and representatives.
“We refute our Jewishness being hijacked for the purpose of drawing a moral equivalence between a Nazi regime that sought to exterminate a race of people, and an Israeli nation that seeks to avert its own extermination,” the letter began.
In his acceptance speech, Glazer shared that he made The Zone of Interest in an effort to show “where dehumanization leads at its worst” and how it shapes the past and present.

The 2024 Oscars were not just another star-studded night of enjoyment, rather it was used as a platform to bring the world’s current atrocities to the viewers’ attention. Whether it was the topic of the Russia-Ukraine war or the ongoing events between Israel and Gaza, celebrities, including Jonathan Glazer, appeared to be steadfast in their support.
A still from Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest
From Mark Ruffalo to Billie Eilish, many celebrities donned red pins on their clothes to subtly call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. However, the boldest statement came from director Jonathan Glazer who stepped onto the stage to accept his award for the night and in his speech, addressed the Israel-Gaza conflict. However, his speech was not well-received by everyone as over 450 Jewish creatives denounced him.

This article contains spoilers for the ending of Lost.
Hiroyuki Sanada, star and producer of FX’s excellent miniseries Shōgun, is one of the most successful Japanese actors working in Hollywood today. English-speaking audiences have to come to know and appreciate the Tokyo-born performer through his roles in films such as The Last Samurai, Speed Racer, The Wolverine, Army of the Dead, and John Wick: Chapter 4.
TV nerds (including yours truly) had an entirely different introduction to Hiroyuki Sanada, however. For us, Sanada’s Western pop culture career begins with the final season of classic ABC drama Lost.
Despite what you may have heard about its ending Lost is one of the best genre series to ever grace network television. It also, admittedly, wasn’t perfect. And its simultaneously ingenious and infuriating use of Sanada in its sixth and final season is a perfect microcosm of the show overall.

Jeff Daniels as eternally glum police chief Del Harris returns for a widening murder conspiracy in the second-season trailer for American Rust: Broken Justice, which dropped Monday.
After the sudden, mysterious death of a former police officer in Pennsylvania’s rust belt in the rookie season is not quite solved by Harris, to say the least, the second-season trailer for American Rust: Broken Justice returns to the fictional town of Buell, where a compromised Del and Grace Poe (Maura Tierney) try to rebuild their lives.
That’s until the trailer reveals a series of unrelated murders that may add up to a much larger conspiracy closing in on a tight-knit town. “We never really do move on, do we?” Del questions at one point.
The fateful wrench from the first-season finale cover-up surfaces, as does Del fretting over how to protect the murder suspect and son of his sometimes girlfriend Grace.

Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney drama American Rust is returning for its second season — on its third platform.
Amazon announced that the sophomore run — titled American Rust: Broken Justice — will premiere on its Prime Video platform rather than the previously announced ad-supported service Freevee. All 10 episodes of the season will debut in a binge drop on March 28.
The drama was originally developed for Showtime, which canceled the show after its first season aired. Freevee picked up American Rust for season 2 in June 2022, with the show now airing on the Amazon flagship service. With Amazon having formally added ads to its Prime Video platform, Freevee programming has been migrating to the larger Prime Video.

When we last hung out with Eddie Murphy's Axel Foley, he was wreaking havoc at a fictional Southern California amusement park (clearly based on Disneyland) while trying to apprehend the facility's chief of security, who murdered Foley's ill-tempered mentor, Inspector Todd (Gil Hill). If you're saying, "Uh, no, he was chasing the Eurotrash criminals who shot up his buddy Chief Bogomil (Ronny Cox)," you are one of the vast majority of moviegoers who skipped John Landis' "Beverly Hills Cop III."
Released over Memorial Day weekend in 1994, Murphy's third go-round as the fast-talking Detroit detective who keeps making unwelcome visits to Los Angeles to avenge dead or badly wounded friends arrived seven years after the last installment, and audiences had moved on. Whereas the first two movies grossed $316 million and $300 million worldwide (the bulk of that money being made in the U.S.), "Beverly Hills Cop III" only...

Eddie Murphy is in negotiations to star in Pink Panther, a new movie based on the beloved mascot for Owens Corning Fiberglass Insulation.
Should the deal close, Eddie Murphy would star in Pink Panther as Inspector Clouseau. The original movie starred Peter Sellers as Clouseau as he tracks down a notorious jewel thief known as “The Phantom” before he is able to steal a priceless diamond known as “The Pink Panther”. The opening credits included the cartoon panther that audiences have come to associate with the franchise, and sources told THR that this new project will attempt to meld both worlds. The live-action/CG hybrid movie is said to see “the Pink Panther’s live-action crew break him out of his animated prison to do a heist job.“

The show stars Kate Mara, Brian Tyree Henry, Brian Smith, and Sepideh Moafi, among others, and although it’s too early to give a decisive verdict, some of the actors are doing justice to their roles. Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian" is a modern American epic, a mythic tale that unflinchingly captures the brutal and violent spirit of the West, devoid of any of the heroism and starry-eyed optimism that's usually part of the genre. Shockingly, however, despite the novel's immense influence and grand cinematic scope, "Blood Meridian" has never been adapted for the big screen. Finally, after numerous attempts from a long line of filmmakers eager to bring McCarthy's seminal work to life, John Hillcoat will be directing a proper adaptation, according to Deadline.
There's an argument to be made that "Blood Meridian" is quite possibly the most savage, cynical, and terrifyingly bleak Western ever written. There are no beacons of justice in McCarthy's Wild West; instead, there's only the scalp-hunting Glanton gang and the carnage that his crew perpetuates. A deconstruction of Western tropes that serve to highlight the racist, imperialist, and sadistic...

Jeff Daniels has starred in a few TV series over the years but his longest-running show, The Newsroom, lasted just 25 episodes. Will his latest effort be a hit in the ratings and run for many years? Will American Rust be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
A family drama series, the American Rust TV show is based on the novel by Philipp Meyer and stars Daniels, Maura Tierney, Bill Camp, David Alvarez, Alex Neustaedter, Julia Mayorga, Mark Pellegrino, and Rob Yang. Monday’s 9-1-1 was a total riot… of the prison variety, that is.
This week’s episode sent the 118 to a nearby state prison, where an inmate revolt (still very much in progress!) resulted in multiple fires throughout the facility. But what began as a fairly simple call quickly spiraled into chaos when the team discovered a pair of bloody inmates fighting for their life. While Buck and Eddie transported one of the inmates to a local hospital, Bobby and Hen brought the other to the prison’s infirmary for treatment.

Billy Poe (Alex Neustaedter ) is awaiting his trial in prison, for a murder he didn’t commit on American Rust. As you can imagine, his parents, Grace (Maura Tierney) and Virgil (Mark Pellegrino), aren’t exactly going to see eye-to-eye about what to do next. But is it a good thing that the chief of police, Del Harris (Jeff Daniels), wants to help because of how he feels about Grace? Or might that just end up making things more complicated? Pellegrino teases what’s ahead. Billy was denied bail, and now he’s in a pretty tough spot. How will Virgil and Grace be handling that? Mark Pellegrino: Grace and Virgil have a bit of a parting of ways in the way that they look at the problem and the way of solving the problem. Grace is going to start turning to other resources to save Billy. It seems like...

Alex Neustaedter is playing Billy Poe on American Rust, a young man who cares too much about others to his detriment.
We had a chance to talk with Alex about his role and joining the stellar cast, including Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney.
If you haven't watched American Rust Season 1 Episode 3 yet, there are some light spoilers. You've been warned!
Since you're the actor bringing him to life, can you give me your perspective on Billy Poe?
So Billy's a former high school football star, and he got offered to play college ball, and he declined that. He turned it down because of how important family is for him.
And I think that's very evident with these small towns outside of Pittsburgh, it's very family-oriented, and everybody knows each other. And he's good-natured at heart. And I think he's very comfortable where he is.
He doesn't want to press his boundaries too far.

Mark Pellegrino plays the bad guy you hate to love so well that you have to wonder how much of his personality seeps into the many characters he's played.
We had the chance to find out, as we interviewed Pellegrino in conjunction with the release of American Rust on Showtime.
If you read my review of American Rust, you know that it takes place in a small, fictional town in Western Pennsylvania, which has fallen onto hard times in light of a mill closure.
Pellegrino plays Virgil Poe, the town lothario and husband to Maura Tierney's Grace, who is beginning a relationship with Jeff Daniels' police chief, Del Harris.
Virgil and Grace share a son, Billy, whose actions are at the center of the drama, making Virgil a key character in the series. As anyone would want to do with Pellegrino, he told me that Virgil was given a...

Ok. It's time to admit that I am not a critic's critic. I'm a people's critic.
I just want to be entertained, you know? I find so many things enjoyable that are panned by critics. What else can it mean?
When the first episodes of Succession dropped, I loved it. I was enamored. But so many critics panned it that I didn't post an early review because I thought I was so far off the mark. Needless to say, that experience was much different once more episodes were dropped.
Right now, American Rust isn't looking too rosy if you're tracking it on Rotten Tomatoes.
Well, allow me to inch that score up just a fraction because the first three episodes were very good.
I think some of the problems come from a disconnect between city dwellers and the rest of us. Although I live in Pittsburgh and spent decades in Denver,...

Maura Tierney is known for a slew of great television dramas that run the gamut from medical (“ER”) to complicated marriages (“The Affair”). But her two most recent series took on the timely topic of justice, and more specifically how far one might go to save a loved one from having to pay for his (alleged) crimes.
On Showtime’s “Your Honor,” Tierney stepped in as prosecutor Fiona McKee in the back-half of the first season, working in the same courthouse as the central character who covered up his son’s fatal hit-and-run. Now, though, she stars on the same premium cabler’s adaptation of “American Rust” as Grace Poe, the mother of a young man who is assumed to have killed someone. While it is local police chief Del (Jeff Daniels) who is the first to take measures to cover up her son Billy’s (Alex Neustaedter) presence at the crime scene,...

Exclusive: Showtime’s forthcoming American Rust has added Mark Pellegrino (Dexter) as a series regular. He joins Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney in the drama series which is scheduled to begin production in Pittsburgh in late March.
Based on Philipp Meyer’s celebrated debut novel of the same name, the family drama explores the tattered American dream through the eyes of a complicated and compromised chief of police Del Harris (Daniels) in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania. When the woman he truly loves sees her son accused of murder, Harris is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him.
Pellegrino will step into the role of Virgil Poe who is described as “wiry” and “hanging onto his good looks” — and he’s also unemployed. He plays the field but remains technically married to Grace Poe (Tierney), to whom he returns when he misses her...

Two very important deaths book-ended Sam Winchester’s journey on the CW’s “Supernatural,” and now one equally emotional loss will set up actor Jared Padalecki’s new on-screen journey on the same network’s “Walker.”
The long-running demon-hunting drama, “Supernatural,” which came to an end after 15 seasons in November 2020, started with Padalecki’s Sam getting sucked back into the “family business” of “saving people and hunting things” after his college girlfriend Jess (Adrianne Palicki) was killed in the same way as his mother was when he was just an infant. He was a character who grew up on the road with his big brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) while their father searched for the thing that killed their mother, but when he got old enough to choose for himself, he wanted to go to college and try to have a normal life.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Carry On,” the series finale of “Supernatural.”
For 15 seasons the Winchester brothers of the CW’s “Supernatural” put the rest of humanity’s needs ahead of their own, so it is only fitting that in their final episode they were still doing that same thing and ended up getting the “heaven [they] deserve.”
The series finale, “Carry On,” started as a throwback episode to the monster-of-the-week format of the drama’s earliest days, full of callbacks and references to what made audiences fall in love with the show — and the boys — in the first place. They may have been able to write their own story with Chuck (Rob Benedict) out of the picture, but that story still included the family business — even though it meant losing one of them. And for once, dead on “Supernatural” really, truly meant dead.

This Supernatural review contains spoilers.
Supernatural Season 15, Episode 19
There’s only one. Episode. Left. Nervous?
Images of an empty world begin the episode, reinforcing that the Winchesters and Jack are basically all that’s left. An entire world emptied to prove Chuck right is a pretty harsh punishment, something he relishes when the boys call him out and decide to surrender — something they never do. But Chuck wants them to continue suffering. He likes this new twist to the story, and hopes the boys continue to put the blame and shame on themselves. Hey, at least all the disappeared didn’t have to deal with the rest of 2020, amirite?
Chuck’s cruelty is put on display when Dean discovers a lonely dog — likely the last of its kind. Dean names it Miracle and decides to keep it, which is when Chuck poofs the dog into smoke and smirks at the boys from afar.

13 Reasons Why Season 4 arrives on Netflix in one week, and the streamer has dropped a new sneak peak.
The clip involves Winston (Deaken Bluman) trying to get answers from Ani (Grace Saif) following Monty's death.
"Tell me what really happened and I swear to you I'll never mention it again, to anyone," he sais to a clearly shocked Ani.
"Just tell me what really happened."
Unfortunately for Winston, Ani has the best poker face out there, and gives him the following response:
"I don't know."
It's an awkward scene, for sure, and Winston leaves with the following:
"Why lie to me? What good does that do?"
Indeed, there would be no show if these teenagers told the truth.
Through three seasons, we've had a suicide, an almost school shooting, sexual assault, and murder.
It's been an exhausting series, and with us heading into the final season, there has to be some consequences for the characters.
