Exclusive: Actor and producer Karrie Martin Lachney signed with Paradigm for representation in all areas.
Lachney made a splash with her portrayal of Ana Morales in the Netflix dramedy Gentefied, created by Linda Yvette Chávez and Marvin Lemus. The series followed a multigenerational, Mexican American family living and loving in Los Angeles, co-starring Joaquin Cosio, J.J. Soria, and Carlos Santos. It ran for two seasons before it was canceled in January.
Lachney’s portrayal of Ana represented experiences that mirror that of many second-generation Latinos whose parents sacrificed everything in search of the American dream— a point of view rarely shown on television.
Ana had to prioritize her familial responsibilities while still a young woman herself over her own dreams and desires. She was challenged at every corner with having to choose between an upcoming art show opportunity, spending time with her girlfriend, and being a support to her...

RuPaul Leads The Way On BBC Three Return
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Versus The World led the way on BBC Three’s return to linear TV after a six year break last night, securing five times more viewers than any other show. The spin-off format, in which queens from around the world compete, was viewed by 350,000 people from 9pm-10pm, according to Barb data from overnights.tv. It was way ahead of reality format Eating With My Ex (70,000) from the previous slot, while the Launch Party managed just 28,000. The RuPaul spin-off will air for the next 10 weeks and comes off the back of the huge success of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, which has aired for three seasons and is widely recognized to be BBC Three’s most popular non-scripted show.

Let’s say you want to make a movie about the dynamic between middle-class white folks and the undocumented dayworkers they employ (some would say “exploit”) in a city like Los Angeles. There are plenty of ways to go about it, any number of which could offer a welcome chance to illuminate the ubiquitous but under-chronicled relationship between those two groups: You could make a sentimental dramedy about a cross-cultural friendship, à la “Spanglish” or “Green Book,” or maybe a tense thriller in which the risk of arrest and deportation reveals the lopsided power balance that locks immigrants into such servitude.
Or you could come up with something totally out-of-touch and off-the-wall like “Papi Chulo,” an egregiously miscalculated rent-a-companion comedy from Irish writer-director John Butler (“Handsome Devil”), in which an egocentric gay man (Matt Bomer), abandoned by his longtime Latino lover, hires an undocumented handyman (California-born actor Alejandro Patiño) to...

Well-intentioned but at times insensitive, “Papi Chulo” is a complicated movie. It wants so badly to do the right thing when the situation is all wrong.
Written and directed by John Butler (“Handsome Devil”), “Papi Chulo” follows Sean (Matt Bomer), a popular Los Angeles weatherman, on the heels of an on-air mental breakdown. Forced to take time off from work, he struggles to cope with his loneliness after the loss of his relationship some months before. Looking to do something with the free time on his hands, he enlists the help of a day laborer, Ernesto, to help repaint the deck outside his home. Instead, Sean ends up more or less hiring Ernesto to be his friend.
Many of the jokes in “Papi Chulo” are rooted in this unequal-buddy comedy routine. Sean feels entitled to this friendship with a stranger he barely knows. His behavior comes across as inappropriate even...

Matt Bomer plays a weatherman in his new movie “Papi Chulo,” but he didn’t shadow TV meteorologists to prepare for the role.
What he was most concerned about was making sure the nervous breakdown his character has on live television was believable. To capture those emotions, he did a deep dive on the internet.
“I don’t want to say it’s there for your viewing pleasure because I’m not about laughing at the expense of others, but there are some documented breakdowns on camera that people have had,” Bomer explains. “There’s one, and he’s very open about this on so I feel okay sharing about this, [ABC News’] Dan Harris specifically had a nervous breakdown on camera. So I watched a lot of that.” (Harris chronicled the experience in his 2014 memoir “10% Happier.”)

"You may think I'm crazy... loco!" Blue Fox Entertainment has debuted a trailer for an indie dramedy titled Papi Chulo, set in Los Angeles. The story in this follows a local weatherman, played by Matt Bomer, who has a breakdown and decides to focus his efforts on home improvement. He hires a middle-aged Latino day laborer named Ernesto, and strikes up a friendship with the migrant worker. The title translates directly to "Pimp Daddy" but is kinda just slang to mean an attractive guy, a bit like "handsome daddy" - which most likely refers to Bomer (known best as one of the hotties from Magic Mike). Alejandro Patiño co-stars as Ernesto, with a small cast including Elena Campbell-Martinez, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Michael Shepperd, Tommie Earl Jenkins, and Shaughn Buchholz. This is a bit cheesy, but it actually looks pretty good - offering good life lessons and awkward charm amidst the friendship.

In “Papi Chulo,” a scrupulously low-key and unassumingly ingratiating dramedy about the friendship forged between a thirtysomething Anglo TV weatherman and a middle-aged Mexican migrant day laborer, Irish-born writer-director John Butler turns an outsider’s eye to the dynamics of interrelationships that cross socioeconomic divides in L.A., and makes it clear, without hammering home his point too insistently, that one can intelligently and entertainingly illuminate universal verities about basic human needs by focusing on specific details of place, class, and sexual orientation.
Sean, played with an admirable fearlessness by Matt Bomer, is the weatherman, a usually chipper professional who has an on-camera meltdown — something more than a crying jag, but not quite a cry of anguish — while forecasting another day of hellish heat in and around L.A. Ordered to take a sabbatical by a news director who’s worried about tarnishing the station’s “brand,” Sean finds himself...

"Let me guess, Ray: you got carried away?" The Orchard has debuted a trailer for a dark comedy film titled Take Me, which is premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival coming up later this month. Take Me is the feature directorial debut of actor Pat Healy, who also stars in the film as the main character. Healy plays Ray, a man who starts a business specializing in abductions that provide alternative therapy for his clients. But one of his customers and his target aren't exactly as they seem, and things get crazy. The cast includes Taylor Schilling (from "Orange Is the New Black"), Toby Huss, Alejandro Patino, Alycia Delmore, and Mark Kelly. This looks wacky but also enjoyable, in a weird twisted way. Trust in Pat Healy, I guess. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Pat Healy's Take Me, direct from YouTube: Ray Moody (Pat Healy) is a...
