Jean Painlevé was born on November 20, 1902 in Paris, France. He was a director and producer, known for The Sea Horse (1935), Pasteur (1947) and Crevettes (1930). He died on July 2, 1989 in Paris, France.
Noted French documentarist, often on scientific subjects, in particular underwater marine biology. In 1930, co-founded L'Institut du Cinema Scientifique.
Son of mathematician and politician Paul Painleve (1863-1933).
