The suspect in the Denver movie theater shooting, who allegedly killed a reported 12 people and injured at least 38 at a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises," has been identified as James Holmes.
Holmes is reportedly a 24-year-old white American male, The Associated Press reported on Friday morning. The young man opened fire during the opening night screening of the new Batman film at a theater in Aurora, Colo., around 12:30 a.m. Mdt Friday morning.
Law enforcement told ABC News that Holmes was wearing a bullet-proof vest and a riot-type mask, dressed in all black.
Moviegoers told The AP that he released some sort of smoke and, at first, they believed the attack was part of the show. He entered through an exit door at the front of the theater. He reportedly threw tear gas into the theater and began shooting.
