Following on its acquisition in May of “The Island of Thirty Coffins,” Munich-based Beta Film is doubling down on French production, acquiring international rights to the six-hour France 3 crime thriller “Presumed Guilty.”
Written by Franck Ollivier (“Zodiaque”), the limited series follows Lola, played by Garance Thenault (“La Mante”), who travels to a town on the Brittany coast for a job interview. She soon finds out that no such interview has been scheduled, and that she’s the dead ringer of a local woman who was murdered in the town 22 years earlier to the day.
Produced by Episode Productions for French public broadcaster channel France 3, “Presumed Guilty” is directed by directed by Grégory Ecale, and described by Beta Film as a “family saga set on Brittany’s wild coastline, conveying the authentic mysterious look and feel of the thriller series.”

Fox International Channels has acquired first run pay-tv rights to René Balcer‘s upcoming crime series Jo in more than 120 territories. The English-language series, formerly titled Le Grand, stars Jean Reno as a veteran detective in Paris’ elite Criminal Brigade who stops at nothing to solve the most challenging murder cases. Also starring are Jill Hennessy, The Borgias‘ Tom Austen and newcomer Heida Reed. The hourlong drama is from Atlantique Productions with Red Arrow International handling sales. Fic has picked up the series in territories that include Latin America, Africa, Italy, Korea, Russia, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Poland and Turkey. Law & Order vet Balcer is showrunner and exec producer. Also writing and producing are co-creators Franck Ollivier and Malina Detcheva. Directors include Charlotte Sieling and Kristoffer Nyholm, both helmers of the original Danish version of The Killing, Stefan Schwartz (Dexter) and Sheree Folkson (Hit And Miss).

Jean Reno is to play the lead in cop drama Le Grand. The Léon star will play an elite homicide cop in the English-language series, reports Deadline. Each episode will revolve around an iconic location in the French capital of Paris, including Nôtre Dame, the Place de la Concorde and the Opéra.
