You want to celebrate the holidays, but want to do it a little differently? Cinelinx presents this list of our favorite non-traditional holiday films.
It’s a fact. TV networks love the holiday season. It’s their chance to program endless Christmas Story reruns and James Bond marathons. More importantly, it’s a time when the whole family is at home and sitting down in front of the TV. Let’s say you’re tired of the normal selection of holiday films that cycle throughout the day on TV. You’re tired of hearing “Every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings!”. You’ve had enough of Macaulay Culkin’s self-defense antics, and Ralphie just maybe deserves to get his tongue stuck to that pole. You are very familiar with how many sizes too small the Grinch’s heart is, and maybe Frosty the snowman is just another migraine waiting to happen.

You know that neighbor who gets waaay too into Christmas and fills his lawn with fake reindeer and inflatable snowmen and candy cane decorations? And covers his house in lights that he keeps up a little too long? And you’re like, “What are you trying to prove?”
Here’s a neighborhood where every neighbor is that neighbor:
This incredible synchronized light show comes from the suburb of Yucaipa, Cali. and was shot by Jeff Maxey using a drone. The above video is set to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and the one below, which gives you a better look at the 16 houses involved, features Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “Wizard of Winter.”
News: Here are 13 perks of it being too dang cold to go outside!

Fans of legendary author H.P. Lovecraft know how closely the ideas of sound, music and strange vibrations are woven into his literary works – from the supernatural serenade called forth in "The Music of Erich Zann" to the sonic “resonator” that opens a dimensional portal in From Beyond. Many musicians have tapped into Lovecraft's tales for inspiration – sometimes purely for fun, as in the case of Re-Animator: The Musical, co-produced for the stage by another horror icon, Stuart Gordon. As you know, Gordon's long association with Lovecraft's work began in earnest with the 1985 classic Re-Animator, and includes a memorable episode of the Showtime series Masters of Horror: “Dreams in the Witch House.” That same tale, which Lovecraft penned in 1932, is now the basis of an epic rock opera produced in association with the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society. While Gordon is not involved in this project, it does feature one...

Okay, so maybe he missed the actual holidays a bit, but that didn't stop writer/director Ryan Lightbourn from being in the giving spirit. Fans of indie shorts will no doubt remember his previous film, Roid Rage, a movie that can be accurately described as the anal version of Brain Damage. Well, ho, ho, ho…Lightbourn has a belated gift for you…Roid Rage: The Christmas Special.
Fans of the original film will no doubt dig this holiday entry, which we have below in its entirety. If you haven't seen Roid Rage don't worry, we can get you caught up pretty quickly. Sammy works in a nuclear power plant. Sammy went to drop a massive deuce one day and pushed too hard. Sammy got a hemorrhoid. The hemorrhoid came to life because of his exposure to nuclear waste. What if every holiday was celebrated with music dedicated to it that began a month in advance, played in all major stores and public places? Can you imagine a Fourth of July that began on June 1 with radio stations playing nothing but Lynyrd Skynyrd, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Grand Funk Railroad? Geek Girl Navigating the World – The Trans-Siberian Orchestra Experience
I was recently surprised with tickets to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra kick off this year’s tour by a couple of friends of mine. I’m not sure if they actually knew whether I liked the band or whether they just hoped I’d be cool with going to a concert when I went to go see them. Fortunately, it all worked out to everyone’s advantage, I think.
My first encounter with any of Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s music was when I was in college. I was riding home to visit my parents with a friend of the family and he had a CD with a whole mix of Christmas music on it. Since we were actually headed home for Christmas, I didn’t mind listening to them. One of the songs on the CD was “Revenge of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

I've spent a good portion of today half convinced it was Thursday. I'm sure this happens to everyone now and again, the persistent feeling that it's a different day than it really is, but seeing as how I'm going out of town on Thursday and I haven't even finished packing yet this particular bit of cognitive dissonance is more confusing than usual and is causing me the occasional mild panic until I remember that it's not freaking Thursday and I maybe need some more coffee. This is similar to those times that I wake up from a dream where I slept through my alarm by hours only to realize that it's still dark out and I begin to wonder if my brain is driving me crazy and then I think "how can one's own brain drive them crazy?" and then I realize that my brain can totally tell I'm onto its plan.

For most of its history, the cello has been perceived as that big violin in boring symphony orchestras. But with bands like Finnish quartet Apocalyptica, and Megadeth-covering Americans Primitivity, cello rock has been coming into its own as a viable genre. The latest bid to spice up the staid instrument comes from two internationally-acclaimed Croatian cellists, Stjepan Hauser and Luka Sulic. In the following video they perform their arrangement of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal," from his Bad album. In what could be described as Yo-Yo Ma meets Trans-Siberian Orchestra, the fellows leave it all on the concert hall floor, with Hauser at one point spinning his cello like a drummer twirling his drumsticks with his fingers. Dig [...]...

Now don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to bite off of Tk and Robert Scott's Grincheriffic schtick. I really do love the holidays. I love holiday films, crave peppermint in my mocha and clamor for faux snow on shop windows. I have been known to carol unironically (if a bit drunkenly). Yesterday I saw a person who was not only sporting a duck costume, but also, inexplicably, wearing a Santa suit. To be clear, that's Kringle'd and Feathered. The pants didn't even fit over the tail portion of the costume. It was patently absurd and it warmed my sneering heart. My laugh was all jolly and not even a smidge schadenfreudey. Oh yes, I'm one of those obnoxious people with an itchy trigger finger who, the day after Thanksgiving, starts blasting Bing, Frank, Ella, The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and even, brace yourself, Mariah Carey and Wham! (For the uninitiated, that exclamation...

[The Week in Geek is a weekly Tuesday column that plunges headfirst into a deep pool of genre geekiness without ever coming up for air.]
Let the squares have their Manheim Steamroller and Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I want an album of cats meowing "Good King Winceslas." I need Weird Al Yankovic's "Christmas at Ground Zero." I crave Miss Piggy singing "Christmas Is Coming." I just can't abide normal, vanilla Christmas carols. If I want Christmas music, it's got to be different.
Well, I went looking, and different is what I found. I laid down some specific ground rules for the final five -- the songs had to be original videos, not fan-made edits set to Christmas music, and they had to be film-related in some way. Oh, and they had to be geeky. That can mean a lot of things to a lot of people, but I think I've got all the geek bases covered with my selections. So, without further ado, my Holiday gifts to you are five of the geekiest Christmas carols around,...

Utah resident Richard Holdman started small for his holiday decorations. "My wife said, ‘Let's put up some Christmas lights on the house.' So I put up some and every year, it gets more and more and pretty soon it turned into this," he told his local CBS news station. Holdman has used his miraculous displays for the past four years to raise money for the Make-a-Wish foundation. Cars line up along the Holdman's street, and those in the giving spirit drop money into donation boxes to spread joy and help raise thousands of dollars for the foundation. In 2007, Holdman's synchronized decorations featuring Yule's "Amazing Grace" made the rounds, even reaching The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Say what you will about the sometimes morbid state of the modern music industry. But, for now, label bosses seem to have found at least one sure thing when it comes to ringing cash registers: Susan Boyle.
The "Britain's Got Talent" runner-up continues to dominate the Billboard 200 at gift-giving time as her second effort, The Gift will slide back up to the #1 position on the chart next week on sales of 272,000, pushing her one-month total over the 1.1 million mark, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
That was more than enough to hold off the #2 album, Taylor Swift's Speak Now, which lost nearly 25 percent of its business from the previous week, but still managed to sell 182,000 copies, enough to cross the 2 million threshold in just six weeks.

Remember that one house in your hometown that always went overboard for Christmas with an absurdly elaborate light display, and as a kid you’d drive by and gaze upon it with astonishment, then as an adult you’d still be impressed but would also kind of wonder if there’s something wrong with the people who live there and worry about how depressed they get when Christmas ends and they have to take the lights down and wait 11 more excruciating months for their one annual shining moment? Turns out, that house existed in every town in America. Here’s a collection of 100 Ridiculous Christmas Light Displays (somewhere around 100, I don’t know, we’re not statisticians) all cut together in a convenient 2-minute video to simultaneously impress and make you wonder who these people are: VH1 TV Shows | Music Videos | Celebrity Photos | News & Gossip (Video is the handywork of...

The weather in New York City may have been dreary on Monday night, but nothing could dampen the spirits at the kick-off concert launching Music Unites' Empowering Women Through Music Initiative.
With an unhindered view of the Hudson River from atop the Standard Hotel, violin vixen Caitlin Moe and her performance partner DJ Mia Moretti got the party started with a remix of La Roux's "I'm Not Your Toy." With a reputation for giving high-powered performances -- from sets at Richie Rich's fall runway show to Chelsea Clinton's wedding reception -- Moe added her fiery violin accompaniment to every dance track Moretti threw her way.
"I always surprise her," Moretti explained. "We try to make a little bit of a plan, and then once we start and see what the crowd's like, that's when the surprises come in."

Not only Michael Jackson's documentary "This Is It" but also the film's soundtrack has been a hit. "This Is It" album debuted atop Billboard Hot 200 with 373,000 copies sold, becoming the fifth-best sales week for an album in the U.S. this year.
This is not the first time Michael returns to Billboard chart with his effort. Earlier this year soon after his sudden death in June, Jackson also ruled Top Comprehensive Albums and Top Pop Catalog Albums with his 2003 greatest hits "Number Ones".
Next on the Hot 200 chart, Creed become this week's runner-up with their new studio release "Full Circle" which sold around 110,000 copies. Furthermore, Taylor Swift's "Fearless" jumps from No. 7 to No. 3 with 109,000 units sold. Since being released in November 2008, the album has remained on the Top 10 of the chart for 157 weeks, becoming the longest-charting album of the decade.
"That's a crazy statistic," Taylor told MTV News at "Saturday Night Live" rehearsal.

In death, as he was in life, Michael Jackson is still proving to be the King of Pop. In the same week that the documentary "Michael Jackson's This Is It" was the #1 movie in the land, the accompanying soundtrack will take the honors on the Billboard 200 albums chart. According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, the "This Is It" soundtrack will assume the top spot with sales of 373,000, easily besting the week's other big debut, a #2 bow by reunited rockers Creed, whose Full Circle moved 110,000 units.
Thanks to the release of a deluxe edition last Monday, Taylor Swift's Fearless will move up four spots to #3 on sales of 109,000. While the more than 4 million in total sales for the album is impressive, Swift will also notch another major milestone this week,...

Michael Jackson leads the pack of new releases in this week's Billboard 200 Albums chart, coming in at #1 with the companion album to his concert documentary "This Is It." A repackaging of Jackson's classics along with some new bonus material, the "This Is It" album sold 373,000 copies for the #1 spot. It's his first #1 on the chart since 2001's "Invincible" and his highest sales tally since "HIStory" sold 391,000 copies in 1995.
Coming in at #2 is Creed with their latest album, "Full Circle." "Full Circle," the band's first studio album since 2001's "Weathered," sells 110,000 copies in its first week. It's a far cry from the first-week tally of "Weathered," however, which debuted with 887,000 copies.
At #3 this week is Taylor Swift with "Fearless," who jumps from #7 to #3 with the Platinum Edition re-release of her album. Now featuring an extra six songs, including the single "Jump, Then Fall," "Fearless" moves another 109,000 copies this week. Rod Stewart...
