Lovin’ is what Sublime fans got this week, as their first song in nearly 30 years was released on Friday. More extraordinarily, the track, titled “Feel Like That”, features the late Bradley Nowell on vocals via outtakes from a 1996 jam session.
“Feel Like That” is actually a collaboration between Sublime and reggae band Stick Figure, with vocals from three different people, including Nowell’s son Jakob, who was less than one year old when his father died from a heroin overdose in May 1996. After a lengthy hiatus solely because of the loss of their frontman, Sublime took on Jakob as lead singer this year with the intent to build a future for the band.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Sublime bassist Eric Wilson expressed gratitude for having a collection of outtakes that can be heard – in some form or another – by fans. “We are blessed that we still have all these old...

The newly-reunited Sublime have followed up their performance at Coachella with the release of their first new song in 28 years. “Feel Like That,” a collaborative release with Stick Figure featuring vocals from late frontman, Bradley Nowell, and his son and current frontman, Jakob.
“Feel Like That” was born out of a 1996 jam session between Bradley and Sublime’s bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studio in Austin, Texas. Performing a half-improvised song — later dubbed “Eireen” by bootleggers — Bradley sang the refrain “let me tell you why I feel like that.” Now, nearly three decades later, that refrain has become the bedrock of “Feel Like That.”

The song’s revival was the product of Stick Figure’s Scott Woodruff building a new track out of samples from the original recording. Once it got rolling, Sublime felt like it was a fitting choice for their comeback single.

In early 1996, the three members of Sublime — frontman Bradley Nowell, bassist Eric Wilson, and drummer Bud Gaugh — were jamming in Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studio in Austin, Texas, when they broke into an improvised, half-formed song that bootleggers would later call “Eireen.” Frontman Bradley Nowell, who would die of an overdose in May of that year, wasn’t taking the song entirely seriously, adding multiple lyrics about his “anus.” But there’s a striking moment when they hit a dub-influenced groove together and Nowell lands on a catchy refrain — “let...

No Doubt ended their nine-year hiatus with a buzzy Coachella set on the main stage on Saturday night. Fronted by a punk-ified Gwen Stefani, the iconic ska group threw it back to the ’90s and ’00s as they ripped through hits like “Just a Girl,” “Don’t Speak,” and “Ex-Girlfriend.” They served as the final act on the main stage before Tyler, the Creator’s headline set later Saturday night.

Jakob Nowell stepped into his role as the lead singer of Sublime before thousands of fans on Saturday night, as the reunited band rocked out on the Coachella stage.
The legendary ska group first disbanded following the tragic death of lead singer Bradley Nowell in 1996. Nearly 30 years later, Nowell’s son took over his vocal and guitar duties, dutifully performing the songs his father wrote alongside drummer Bud Gaugh and bass player Eric Wilson.

Regarding the single, singer Rome Ramirez stated, “‘Love Is Dangerous’ explores the vulnerabilities we face when we love someone. As a touring musician, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, but writing this song was like therapy for me.”

Even if late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell actually had a crystal ball, he couldn’t have possibly imagined the latest dramatic developments in the world of his band. Twenty-eight years after Nowell’s tragically early death, two entirely separate versions of Sublime will be touring in 2024. And no one’s happy about it, especially Rome Ramirez, who will be playing numerous contractually obligated shows billed as Sublime with Rome — the final concerts for that band — even as original bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh reunite for Coachella and other festivals as plain old Sublime,...

For Jakob Nowell, turning 28 was a major milestone. It’s the same age his father, Bradley Nowell, was when he died, leaving behind both his band, Sublime, and his infant son. So there’s a certain poetry to the fact that this is the year Jakob is taking over as the new singer of Sublime, starting at April’s Coachella festival, alongside original members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh. (At the same time, Wilson’s band, Sublime With Rome, with Rome Ramirez on vocals, is winding down with its final dates this year.

Thanks to the recent reunion of Sublime’s Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh with late frontman Bradley Nowell’s son, Jakob, the legendary SoCal group is officially back together and booked for a number of upcoming performances. Now, the band has revealed that new music may also be on the way.
The hint arrives via a new Spin interview with Gaugh and Nowell, in which the two were asked what about their plans following their upcoming set at Coachella. “We’ll see how it goes from the rehearsals, but I’m pretty certain we’re gonna see some music coming out with this project,” Gaugh said.
As for Nowell, he didn’t address any recording, but expressed excitement for Sublime’s upcoming shows and a desire to “add to the legacy of this band.” Looking ahead, he said he’s “hoping to get to those alternative scenes and work with cool alternative artists.

“Addiction is a family disease,” says Jakob Nowell, the 28-year-old son of late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell. “Rock & roll is a family disease, man. I seek to keep it in the family.”
Jakob bears an eerie sonic and physical resemblance to his dad, who was also 28 when he died of an overdose in 1996, cutting his band’s career short on the brink of superstardom. This April, at Coachella, Jakob will make his official debut as the new lead singer and guitarist of Sublime, alongside his dad’s original bandmates, drummer Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson.

No Doubt are reuniting.
On Tuesday, January 16th, the band’s official Twitter page shared a video confirming that the classic four-piece lineup — featuring Gwen Stefani, Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont, and Adrian Young — will play together once again, with the quartet all agreeing to “do a show.” More details have yet to be announced. Sublime members Eric Wilson (bass) and Bud Gaugh (drums) reunited to play a set of the band’s songs with late singer Bradley Nowell’s son Jakob on guitar and vocals on Monday night (December 11th). The 1990s reggae rock band Sublime will get the biopic treatment from 3000 Pictures and Chernin Entertainment with “Hunger Games” filmmaker Francis Lawrence directing and “Ozark” showrunner Chris Mundy writing the script, Sony Pictures said Thursday.
The film will tell the story of how Long Beach musicians Bradley Nowell, Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh became the leading figures of the ’90s alternative rock wave with a trio of albums that fused rock, reggae and ska punk among other influences. While the band developed a devoted following during their career from 1988 to 1996, it wasn’t until Nowell’s untimely death from a heroin overdose in 1996 that songs like “What I Got” and “Santeria” became breakthrough chart-toppers and made Sublime one of the most successful bands of the decade.

“The coolest thing we achieved is we took all those different influences and made them ours in one song,” says Sublime co-founder Eric Wilson. “And that’s what no one else really did.” Sublime’s self-titled breakthrough album turns 25 on July 30th, and in an interview on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, Wilson — the only original member of the band to play in Sublime with Rome, the band’s current incarnation — looked back on his early days with the band’s late frontman, Bradley Nowell.

Lana Del Rey has dropped her cover of Sublime’s laid-back single “Doin’ Time.” The singer, who previously teased the cover, takes on late singer Bradley Nowell’s smooth-talking vocals, adding her signature sultry vibe to the song. The glittering song was produced by Andrew Watt and Happy Perez, and will appear in the upcoming documentary Sublime, which “outlines the history of the iconic California band.”

Unless you were of the right age and geographic orientation, Sublime might be an easy band to overlook. A number of their songs haven’t aged particularly well; from a distance they might blend in with the glut of bleached-blond ska-punks who followed in their wake; and their longevity was limited by the untimely passing of frontman Bradley Nowell, who died of a heroin overdose just before they released the album that would make them household names. But if you happened to be a teenager in Southern California in the late 1990s, Sublime was second only to Snoop and Dre for party and parking lot sound system ubiquity, and the time seems right for a full-scale exploration of one of the decade’s unlikeliest superstar bands.

The Interscope record label’s interest in film/music crossover isn’t exactly a secret: With hit companion albums for “A Star Is Born,” “Black Panther” and “La La Land,” they’ve seemed to own the soundtrack space at times in recent years. And the company hasn’t completely made a secret of its desire to move into film production. But with three films premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend, they’re ready to go on record as officially being in the movie business with the launch of Interscope Films.
Or re-launch, in a manner of thinking. If “Interscope Films” rings a bell of any kind, it may be because you know your history. Before there was a music company by that name, Ted Fields started Interscope Communications (aka Interscope Pictures) in 1982, before it morphed into the music behemoth we know today in 1990 and the filmmaking component eventually dropped away.

It’s hard to say, even with their success, what Sublime might have been like had their original vocalist, Bradley Nowell, not passed away in 1996. There was so much promise to the band’s career at that point that it seemed as though they might go down immediately following his death, but the band at least tried to stick it out until they were informed that they could no longer perform under the title of Sublime without the consent of Nowell’s estate. From that point on they became Sublime in Rome, but there was really no way to capture the same

The “What?” (’90s nostalgia cash-in), “How?” (new singer Rome Ramirez), and “When?” (before fans wise up) are readily apparent on Yours Truly, the debut album from undead ska-punk outfit Sublime With Rome. But the most important, troubling question—“Why?”—is left unanswered. Maybe not for Sublime’s Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson, who defied the explicitly stated wishes of their long-dead lead singer Bradley Nowell by recruiting Ramirez and carrying on under a modified moniker. But for anybody who cared about the original Sublime—a band mostly defined by Nowell’s voice and songwriting—does Yours Truly have a legitimate ...

Toni Collette is returning to Australia to work with director Pj Hogan for the first time since the two collaborated on their breakthrough film "Muriel's Wedding" 17 years ago on a comedy called "Mental," in which Collette is expected to star as a caretaker for a politician's family of seven that has recently seen their matriarch admitted into the psychiatric ward. The film will not only serve as Hogan's first in his native country since "Muriel's," but it's also the latest indie production to suggest that soon audiences could relive the glory days of '90s, or at least enjoy a nostalgic kick of seeing many of its filmmakers reunite.

On Thursday (December 9), the late, great Michael Jackson returned to the music-video world with "Hold My Hand," a clip from the upcoming Michael album, which pairs his vocals with production work from some of today's top producers.
And much like that album, the "Hold My Hand" video is very much a retrospective affair, loaded with triumphant Mj performance footage and uplifting imagery (smiling children, sunrises, bright blue skies), not to mention a whole lot of Akon. And while fans can debate whether the clip is a worthy addition to the King of Pop's massive music-video legacy, it certainly carries on the tradition of the posthumous video, a rather ignominious — and incredibly profitable — wing of the music-industry machine.

Reunited punk icons Sublime are set to hit the studio again to record their first album of new material in 13 years. Drummer Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson reformed the group last year and have since settled a name dispute with late singer Bradley Nowell's family.
Now known as Sublime With Rome, the group has started work on a new album at the Radiostar studio in Weed, California. The group has also earmarked a three-date European tour, which will begin in Amsterdam, Netherlands on October, 5. The band will then return to the U.S. for an extensive autumn tour.
The new album is expected for 2011 release. The group will work on new songs they've been performing live on the road this summer, including "Panic", their first original single as Sublime With Rome which debuted on national TV this past June on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!".

It's Musical March Madness! The sprawling bracket — both a parody and a tribute to the Ncaa basketball tournament, masterminded by MTV News' James Montgomery — takes the 65 biggest names in rock, splits them up into four regions, assigns them seeds and puts them up against one another in a single-elimination series of match-ups in a winner-take-all contest. We're leaving it to you to decide an actual champ in this field of 65. Over the next few weeks, we will present a series of polls that will allow you to vote for the match-ups presented in MTV News' Band Bracketology. You vote for the winners, we'll keep advancing the seeds and, in the end, we'll have some sort of champion. What will the winner receive? Little more than our esteem (as well as that of the fans) and some Internet bragging rights.

Or maybe they didn't, since this Sublime consisted of drummer Bud Gaugh, bassist Eric Wilson and — in the place of late, lamented (and, at this point, practically sanctified) frontman Bradley Nowell — some dude named Rome.
