Artists4Ceasefire, the industry collective that has been pushing for an end to the current war in Gaza (and whose pin badges were worn by various attendees at this year’s Oscars ceremony), is spearheading a new initiative calling for a halt to illegal arms sales to Israel.
Through a partnership with artist Shepard Fairey and several humanitarian organizations — including Oxfam America, ActionAid USA and War Child Alliance/Children in Conflict — the group has launched a call to action bearing the message “Ceasefire Now, Stop Weapons, Save Lives” that urges the halt to what it says are “weapons transfers that violate U.S. and international law.” Such laws state it is illegal to supply or use weapons to commit “grave human rights violations,” including striking schools or hospitals, restricting humanitarian aid, and killing children.

“The Bear” stars Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are runaway favorites to win their second straight Best Comedy Actor and Best Comedy Supporting Actor Emmys, respectively, next month. In isolation, that’s not really that notable after “The Bear’s” dominance the past year, but if they pull off the double again, they’d continue a recent trend: It’d be the fifth consecutive year and sixth time in the last seven years that the male comedy acting categories go to the same show.
In 2018, “Barry” swept the categories for Bill Hader and Henry Winkler, 14 years after “Frasier” was the last to achieve it with Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce. The following year, Hader defended his crown, but Winkler lost the supporting trophy to “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s” Tony Shalhoub.

Carrie Bradshaw’s shoes were an important part of her story from the moment the character was first introduced to fans. It’s been decades, and that fact has not changed. Bradshaw is still sporting spicy stilettos in And Just Like That…, the reboot of Sex and the City. Not all of her shoes are Manolo Blahnik’s, though. If you’ve ever seen Carrie Bradshaw slip on a pair of Duchessa Gardini shoes, she was wearing heels designed by Sarah Jessica Parker.

After Kim Cattrall graced Sex and the City fans with a brief visit from Samantha Jones, another show hopes to bring the character out of retirement once again.
The cast of Emily in Paris recently campaigned for Cattrall to reprise her beloved character for a crossover of their fellow Darren Star brainchild, following her cameo on Season 2 of And Just Like That… last year.
Lily Collins, who stars as Emily in the Netflix series, told IMDb her choice for a crossover, “I would say the obvious but also genuine answer is gonna be Sex and the City just because naturally I feel like there’s a lot of crossover there.”
“We’ve been talking about – earlier – about having Kim Cattrall, manifesting her presence on Emily in Paris,” added Lucas Bravo. “But it would imply that there’s a substantial role for her to take on, and also [for] her to say yes to that idea.

Christine Baranski’s mother was a Polish immigrant who survived the Great Depression and spent years working at an air conditioner factory in Buffalo, New York. She was a far cry from Baranski’s character on Julian Fellowes’ HBO drama “The Gilded Age,” the haughty, imperious, old-money Agnes van Rhijn. But in an interview with Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, Baranski says she took inspiration from her parent in bringing Agnes to life, a performance that’s now Emmy-nominated in one of six nods for the series’ Season 2 — and the sixteenth of Baranski’s illustrious career.
“I watched a tough lady move through life,” Baranski recalls. “They can be very grouchy and very strong and very controlling, but they get the job done.” Agnes herself endured what’s implied to be a long, unhappy marriage in order to provide for her family, including younger sister Ada (Cynthia Nixon) and niece...

“The opera is where society puts itself on display,” says Carrie Coon’s character Bertha Russell in “The Gilded Age.” She is correct, but in HBO’s period drama set in late 19th century New York City, society is always on display and nearly every scene is a showcase for the luxe sartorial indulgences of the elite.
Created by “Downton Abbey” mastermind Julian Fellowes, “The Gilded Age” is a soapy saga in which old money begrudgingly rubs elbows with the nouveau riche. The 1880s were a period of rapid industrialization, political corruption and an ever-widening gap between the wealthy and the poor. And from the series’ very first episode, costume designer Kasia Walicka-Maimone wanted to capture the spirit of excitement that defined the era. “There were those giant socio-economic differences that were visible daily on the street,” she said. “The ladies of means, the ladies who had money, it was their town,...

Jennifer Aniston won Best Comedy Actress at the 2002 Emmys for the hit laffer “Friends.” Twenty-two years later, she could well pick up an Emmy bookend by winning Best Drama Actress for her starring role as Alex Levy in the acclaimed Apple TV+ series “The Morning Show.” Her rival nominees are: Anna Sawai (“Shōgun”), Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”), Maya Erskine (“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”), Carrie Coon (“The Gilded Age”), and her “The Morning Show” co-star Reese Witherspoon.
Aniston is currently in third place in our odds chart with both Sawai and Staunton ahead of her. Sawai is hoping to win for the first season of “Shōgun,” and she could, theoretically, get taken along for the ride in a “Shōgun” sweep (we expect “Shōgun” to win Best Drama Series). Meanwhile, Staunton is hoping to prevail for the final season of “The Crown” — perhaps voters will get sentimental and want to bid farewell to the lauded show.

Emily in Paris became one of Netflix’s biggest hit series upon its release but I think it was also one of the most hated shows. Created by Darren Star, the romantic-comedy series stars Lily Collins as the title character, and the series is filled with stunning scenery, glamorous fashion moments, and beautiful and delicious-looking food. The first part of Emily in Paris Season 4 was recently released on Netflix with Part 2 coming out in September this year. Agnes van Rhijn has a humorous uphill battle in The Gilded Age Season 3, set to premiere in 2025. So says Christine Baranski, who gave a sneak preview into the upcoming season in a new interview. The Season 2 finale of the HBO period drama saw the van Rhijn household’s rotten luck turn around, but it didn’t make the seismic shift in power less shocking for the inhabitants. Cynthia Nixon‘s Ada is now the woman of the house after inheriting late husband Luke’s (Robert Sean Leonard) fortune and Oscar (Blake Ritson) losing Agnes’ in a dirty investment scheme. Agnes will have to come to terms with her loss of power in the house, and Baranski says it’s going to make for lots of laughs in the new season, now filming in New York. “Well, she has to cope, doesn’t she? She’s suddenly not the head of the household,...

As Agnes van Rhijn in The Gilded Age, Christine Baranski embodies a New York matriarch bound by stringent class division and societal contest—something the show’s creator Julian Fellowes so famously explored within the British aristocracy in Downton Abbey. Christine Baranski puts in the work. The 16-time Emmy nominee, up for her latest trophy as supporting actress in a drama for The Gilded Age, is spending her summer filming the HBO series’ third season shrouded in all the stifling accoutrements that the period piece requires.
During a day off from production, the actress emphasized that she’ll happily suffer for art. But Baranski, who’ll also soon star in season two of Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers alongside Nicole Kidman, was quick to think of sets with more liberating costumes. Namely, Mamma Mia! The musical adaptation of the Abba songbook spawned a movie, a sequel and, most recently, talk of No. 3. Baranski confirmed she’s dined with franchise lead Judy Craymer, and things are in the works and a proposed story is in place. “We’ll all be on some fabulous Greek or Croatian island having a blast,” says Baranski.

On Sex and the City, Blair Underwood guest-starred as Dr. Robert Leeds, the sexy sports medicine doctor Miranda Hobbes briefly dated. Dr. Robert Leeds was certainly a swoon-worthy character who’d be a welcomed addition to the Max reboot. While Underwood hasn’t announced his involvement in And Just Like That…, he’s happy to discuss his participation in the original series.
Recently, Blair Underwood revealed he was offered a different part in Sex and the City but turned it down. The prevailing theory is that he was initially asked to play Chivon Williams.

Blair Underwood reflected on his career and recalled his first offer to guest star on Sex and the City, which he ultimately turned down.
In a new interview, the Longlegs actor opened up about the role he was asked to portray in the HBO series.
“The first time they had offered the role, to be honest with you, it was about how Samantha was fascinated by dating a Black man and wanted to know if, uh, all of the rumors were true about our anatomy!” Underwood said in an interview with Av Club. “And I said, ‘Listen, I’m honored, thank you, but I just don’t want to play a character based on race, on curiosity about a Black man.'”
Underwood said that he had “never watched” the show before he was approached to appear opposite Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, and Kim Cattrall but “knew it was a big hit.

Blair Underwood is detailing why he opted to not join “Sex and the City” three seasons before his iconic turn as Dr. Robert Leeds.
Underwood told the A.V. Club that he first turned down a role earlier in the series that centered on Kim Cattrall dating a Black man.
Underwood was later cast as fan favorite sports medicine physician Dr. Robert Leeds, who becomes Miranda’s (Cynthia Nixon) boyfriend after moving into her building. The character appeared in multiple episodes of Season 6 in 2003.
“I actually did say ‘no’ the first time,” Underwood said. “The first time they had offered the role, to be honest with you, it was about how Samantha was fascinated by dating a Black man and wanted to know if, uh, all of the rumors were true about our anatomy! Blair Underwood participated in a career retrospective interview with the Av Club and remembered turning down the first offer he got to join HBO’s “Sex and the City.” Underwood would go on to play Dr. Robert Leeds, a brief romantic love interest for Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), during the show’s sixth and final season. However, that was not the character first offered to Underwood.

Samantha Jones is staying in London according to actress Kim Cattrall.
The “Sex and the City” alum tweeted that she will not reprise her role for Season 3 of revival series “And Just Like That.” Cattrall briefly appeared in the Season 2 finale in a scene filmed separate from the core cast.
Life & Style reported that Cattrall was set to be back for Season 3, with a source telling the outlet that Cattrall would again film away from the rest of the cast. The publication said HBO was “bending over backwards to pay her an absolute fortune, and it’s all on her terms because she’s so central to the franchise.”
Not true, according to the actress herself.
“Aw that’s so kind but I’m not,” Cattrall commented when an Elle UK article claiming her return was reposted on X.

Unfortunately for fans of Samantha Jones, lightning doesn’t strike twice.
Kim Cattrall politely broke the news that she won’t be reprising her iconic Sex and the City character for the upcoming third season of its Max revival And Just Like That…, despite her drive-by cameo last year in the Season 2 finale.
After Life & Style reported earlier this month that Cattrall is striking up a deal for Season 3, the actress set the record straight on X.
‘It Looks Like #KimCattrall (aka Samantha Jones) Will Be Back For ‘And Just Like That…’ Season 3 After All!’ read one headline, to which Cattrall responded, ‘Aw that’s so kind but I’m not.’
Cattrall played the sexually empowered publicist Samantha Jones for the original HBO show’s six-season run from 1998 to 2004, as well as the feature adaptations that hit theaters in 2008 and 2010.

Hollywood reacted to Biden’s announcement that he will halt his re-election campaign and endorse Kamala Harris for president on Sunday. Many, including names such as Barbra Streisand, Lee Daniels, the Clintons and the Obamas, celebrated Biden’s decision as a heroic and selfless move for the country. Several politicians, including the Clintons and Elizabeth Warren, and those in Hollywood alike, including Shonda Rhimes and Damon Lindelof, also endorsed Harris.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote.
In a follow-up message, Biden explicitly endorsed Harris to take his place at the top of the ticket. “Democrats...

Once again, the Emmy Awards nominations don’t include a slew of TV favorites. Among the most notable snubs: Emma Stone for Best Drama Actress and a complete shutout of her Showtime series “The Curse.” Equally surprising was “Shogun” supporting actresses Moeka Hoshi and Fumi Nikaido missing the ballot. On the comedy side, Netflix’s “The Gentlemen” missed for Comedy Series and a forecasted bid for its star Theo James. And although “The Bear” had a solid morning overall, Abby Elliott wasn’t able to ride the wave of fortune in Best Comedy Supporting Actress. Oliver Platt and Matty Matheson were also snubbed on the Supporting Actor side.
Below, we enumerate the top 50 Emmys snubs in our estimation. These were the shows and performers that we thought had a strong chance to number among this year’s nominees. Let us know if there are others missing from this list that...

Earlier this year, “Succession” garnered a whopping 15 Primetime Emmy nominations: a bid for Best Drama Series and 14 for acting. The HBO show from Jesse Armstrong became not just the most-nominated drama of the year but the most recognized show that year, while the 14 acting bids tied its own record from the previous year.

Adapted from Candace Bushnell‘s book and newspaper column from The New York Observer with the same name, the romantic comedy-drama series Sex and the City aired on HBO from 1998 to 2004. It follows the tumultuous love (and sex) lives of New York City sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her best friends — Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis). There’s a reason it ranked fifth on TV Insider’s 50 Best HBO Shows: “It was groundbreaking, iconoclastic TV, and one of the big reasons to get HBO in the late ’90s. Its influence on pop culture can’t be understated, and lackluster movies, spinoffs, and changing attitudes can’t dim the zsa zsa zsu of its original run.” The hit show depicted an array of challenges that still resonate 20 years after the series ended such as promiscuity, infidelity, infertility, abortion, and even...

It looks like Aidan Shaw might have some competition for Carrie Bradshaw’s affection when And Just Like That… Season 3 returns. While season 2 left Carrie waiting for Aidan’s youngest son to age out of his troubled teen years so they could resume their romance, it doesn’t look like she’ll be waiting alone.
Last week, it was revealed that three new guest stars would be joining the cast. While the team behind the Sex and the City reboot didn’t share how they will factor into the ladies’ lives, two of the three new stars have been spotted on set. At least one of those new characters appears to be portraying a love interest for Carrie. We have yet to determine what that means for Carrie and Aidan.

And Just Like That…, the Sex and the City reboot opened with the devasting death of Carrie Bradshaw’s big love, John James Preston. His funeral was featured in the raw and emotionally charged first season. While season 2 was much more upbeat and hopeful, viewers are in for another emotional moment when season 3 finally premieres. Another funeral appears to be in the cards, although we still don’t know who could have died this time.

In 2022, the first season of “The Gilded Age” introduced the world to Carrie Coon’s utterly delightful Bertha Russell, an ambitious, unintimidated social climber whose only concern in life in 1880s New York is trying to elbow her way into the upper echelons of society. There were certainly shades to the character back then, especially in her marriage to robber baron George (Morgan Spector) and with her daughter, who is firmly under Bertha’s thumb. But in Season 2, the actress had the opportunity to do even more, breaking through Bertha’s façade to show the vulnerability that underpins her scheming character.
The seeds of this emotional arc are planted at the end of the second episode, when Ward McAllister (Nathan Lane) introduces the Russells to the Wintertons, and Mrs. Winterton is revealed to be none other than Turner (Kelley Curran), Bertha’s lady’s maid who had tried to seduce...

The Apple TV+ drama series “Sugar” has provided a showcase for a number of its stars, with the cast led by Colin Farrell but also including terrific turns from the likes of James Cromwell and Amy Ryan.
The neo-noir detective drama follows Farrell as a private investigator who searches for the missing granddaughter of a Hollywood producer. Created by “Thor” and “I Am Legend” screenwriter Mark Protosevich, the series is an homage-filled thriller that updates and pays dividends to the noir detective genre. Ryan shines in her role as Melanie Matthews, who used to be the step-daughter of the missing Olivia and develops something of a relationship with Farrell’s detective. Ryan, who younger viewers will mostly recognize from her days in “The Office,” demonstrates her impressive versatility as a performer here, as noted by critics.
Matthew Jackson (Looper) observed that “as great as Colin Farrell is, Sugar’s not...
