Ufc
The Ufc returns to the land of the rising sun next Saturday night, and brings with it one of the most anticipated heavyweight bouts of the year. Mark Hunt vs. Roy Nelson is the Ufc equivalent of Godzilla vs. King Kong, and it tops of an exciting card that also sees appearances by a returning Yoshihiro Akiyama, top women’s bantamweight Miesha Tate, and the always exciting Takanori Gomi, otherwise known as the Fireball Kid.
The card did take a bit of a blow when Urijah Faber was forced out due to injury, and while it is loaded with local talent like many recent Brazilian cards, it avoids some of the criticism of those cards by being a more balanced offering overall. Kiichi Kunimoto, for example, is on a six fight win streak, and is coming off a Performance of the Night submission over Daniel Sarafian. Rin Nakai, known as the Queen of Pancrase,...

The heavyweight division has (no pun intended) some of the biggest names in the Ufc, and a number of big fights have gone down, or been booked, recently. There are never enough big men in the organization’s ranks, however, and a lack of top prospects coming up means we often see the same old names fighting each other again and again. Think Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez fighting three times within two years, or Velasquez meeting Bigfoot Silva twice within that same timeframe.
That’s just the title picture, however. Outside the champ, there are a lot of heavyweight fights we would like to see. A lot of them involve some of the top names in the division, while others involve legends. You have the likes to Josh Barnett, Andrei Arlovski, Alistair Overeem, Roy Nelson, Travis Browne, Mark Hunt, Stipe Miocic, and...

Whether it’s a 90th minute penalty or a buzzer beating three-pointer, every sport has those blockbuster flashes of brilliances, those hair raising events that mark a moment in history, but few compare to a devastating knockout in the cage.
Maybe it’s our animalistic origins, for some reason fighting is relatable in every corner of the globe, humans just get it, and it doesn’t get much bigger than the Ufc. Founded in 1993, the holy grail of Mma organisations has showcased the best fighters from around the world since its humble beginning.
Hundreds of Ultimate Fighters have come and gone, and of course, there can only be one winner, but in what is without a doubt the most unpredictable sport known to man, some people still lean towards certain fighters as the so called favourites. However, time and time again history has proven...

That’s right – the Swedish fighter who gave Jon Jones his toughest fight to date at Ufc 165 in Toronto, Canada, has fallen to injury. The Ufc has confirmed that his fight with Jones at Ufc 178 in Las Vegas has been postponed. In the meanwhile, with the promotion not wanting to let yet another big card go down in flames, Daniel Cormier, who at one point recently had been considering some elective surgery, is probably quite thankful he put off going under the knife, as he gets the nod to replace “The Mauler” in Las Vegas.
Cormier has been calling out Jones since he arrived in the Ufc and opted to move down to light heavyweight to avoid butting heads with training partner and champion Cain Velasquez, first on Twitter, and most recently in the octagon after dispatching the formidable Dan Henderson at Ufc 173.

There was big news in the Mma world today as legendary Pride and Strikeforce champ Dan Henderson is apparently heading down in weight.
Hendo has hit hard times in his current Ufc run, and was last seen being rag-dolled at light heavyweight by possible title challenger Daniel Cormier in May. After the bout, fans and media pundits alike speculated about a drop back to middleweight for Hendo, who once competed against Anderson Silva for Silva’s middleweight title.
Hendo, however, will likely be 44 years old the next time he sets foot in the ring, and the weight cut to middleweight may be daunting, though he did weigh in at 199lbs for the Cormier bout – under the light heavyweight mark of 205lbs.
If Hendo retains his power at middleweight, it could give the beloved vet once last shot at the belt.
The news was first reported by MMAFighting, quoting Hendo...

WhatCulture.com was recently invited over to the EA HQ in Guildford to get our eager hands on an advanced build of the new EA Sports Ufc game and have a few questions answered by Creative Director Brian Hayes and Producer Jazz Brousseau.
Mma is one of fastest growing sports worldwide, each and every year the Ufc – the sports premier organisation – putting on more shows with the fights being fought further and further away from the sport’s traditional capital of Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s hardly difficult to see why Mma is such a rapidly growing sport. Seeing world class athletes come together in a clash of strength, guile and martial art’s expertise is easily one of the most entertaining sporting contests on the planet. They say anything can happen in the Octagon and this is completely true – from flash knockouts and elite-level submissions to massive...

The Ufc is building up some huge momentum coming up to the end of 2013 with massive matchups taking place on PPV, from the Rousey Tate rematch to another Gsp title fight and of course the very eagerly anticipated second matchup between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman. First up however is the final act in an epic heavyweight championship trilogy.
Cain Velasquez is the current heavyweight champion and the Mexican American has a highly impressive 12 and 1 record defeating some of the biggest names in Ufc heavyweight history, the likes of Minotauro Nogueria, Bigfoot Silva and Brock Lesnar have all fallen to him and all of them were knocked out too a very impressive achievement. Cain’s only defeat came at the hands of the very man he will face on October 19th the former champ, Brazilian Junior Dos Santos.
Dos Santos also owns a pretty good Mma fighting record with 18 wins...

If you've never seen Black Dynamite, the spot-on and side-splittingly funny parody of blaxploitation films, then drop whatever you're doing and watch it right now. It's 90 minutes long, but the memories will last a lifetime. Go ahead, I'll wait. ... ...Pretty funny, right? The folks at Nerdist agree. They have launched a new web series called Black Dynamite Teaches... where a mannequin version of the Michael Jai White character beats the crap out of pro wresters and Mma fighters, all while teaching them important lessons about life, etiquette, and kicking ass. The series is styled after those crazy Japanese commercials that are all over YouTube, and it would not be out of place on the Wtf Japan Seriously blog. We've seen two certifiably ridiculous episodes thus far, with wrestlers Roddy Piper and John Hennigan joining the fun along with Mma fight Roy Nelson. These three men are badasses in the ring/octagon,...

In part 2 of the Getting Lucky Mma podcast Ultimate Fighter spectacular, I am joined by fellow Mma columnist, Marcus Mitchell, to break down all the action in the Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale. As a surprise move, Dana did not invite any of the season contestants other than the finalists to partake on the card, obviously to shake up the complacency in the housemates over lackluster performances and commitment.
The card was highlighted by Roy Nelson dominating Matt Mitrione on the feet with a beautiful uppercut. The fight was punctuated with a well-timed flurry by Big Country to turn off Meathead’s lights completely. The Tuf 16 Welterweight champion was also crowned, Us Army Ranger Colton Smith.
Watch on Youtube
Episode Summary (#010 – part 2): In a card that was largely de-fanged by injury (Shane Carwin) and even last second pestilence (Melvin Guillard vs. Jamie Varner), there was still plenty of excitement. Nine out...

As Americans get ready to head to the polls, the timing couldn’t be better for a fresh look at John Carpenter’s 1988 sci-fi flick They Live. Fortunately, a brand new Blu-ray version of the film is hitting stores on election day. Aside from a slew of new bonus features and a crisp-as-a-hundred-dollar-bill high-def transfer, the film (about a blue-collar drifter who finds a pair of sunglasses that allow him see that aliens have turned us all into passive zombies) comes complete with an incendiary class-warfare political message that’s just as relevant today as it was back at the...

Former Ufc Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir has revealed that he would be open to an offer from Vince McMahon to come to the WWE, amidst rumours that he was intrigued by the idea after Brock Lesnar’s recent $5 million limited contract deal.
Speaking to the Chronicle Journal, Mir admitted he couldn’t rule out a move to Pro Wrestling;
“Not opposed to the idea,” Mir said. “I can’t do a back flip or anything.”
There have been rumours over the past few weeks that other Ufc stars are interested in coming to WWE for a similar “big money Lesnar offer”. Roy Nelson and Tito Ortiz both publically expressed their interest in a move to pro wrestling if the money was right and now Mir, although not exactly as blatant as others, is perhaps making a subtle oveture for McMahon to make him an offer.
Of course for McMahon, Mir...
