‘The President Is Missing’ Showtime Drama Pilot Won’t Be Produced Due To Covid-Related Circumstances
Showtime no longer will be making its drama pilot The President Is Missing, an adaptation of the novel by President Bill Clinton and James Patterson, from Christopher McQuarrie and Anthony Peckham.
The network had ordered the project to pilot, which was fully cast and ready to go when the coronavirus pandemic halted all production in mid-March. In light of the uncertainty surrounding production amid the pandemic, Showtime has opted not to move forward with the pilot.
The ViacomCBS premium network also recently decided not to proceed with the previously ordered second season of On Becoming a God In Central Florida, citing the impact of the pandemic-related production delays.

Bill Clinton and James Patterson’s “The President Is Missing” will not be making it to the small screen, at least not at Showtime.
The premium cabler has decided not to move forward with its buzzy pilot which starred David Oyelowo and was based on the book of the same name by Clinton and Patterson, Variety has learned exclusively from Oyelowo’s co-star Ann Dowd.
Speaking at a junket for the new Netflix film “Rebecca,” Dowd revealed that a combination of Covid-19 and current political events were behind the prospective series’ demise. Another source close to the production confirmed that the pandemic played a significant part in the network’s decision.
“[Production] stopped midway and then because of the pandemic, the relevance of it, things needed to be changed in the writing because of what happens to the President. It just wouldn’t have worked. It would have had to have been re-conceived,...

Exclusive: Showtime has found its missing President. Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale) has been cast in the key role opposite David Oyelowo in The President Is Missing, Showtime’s drama pilot based on the novel by President Bill Clinton and James Patterson from Christopher McQuarrie and Anthony Peckham.
In The President Is Missing pilot, a powerless and politically aimless vice president (Oyelowo) unexpectedly becomes president halfway into his administration’s first term when President Jillian Stroud (Dowd) goes missing, despite his every wish to the contrary. He walks right into a secret, world-threatening crisis, both inside and outside the White House. Attacked by friends and enemies alike, with scandal and conspiracy swirling around him, he is confronted with a terrible choice: keep his head down, toe the party line and survive, or act on his stubborn, late-developing conscience and take a stand.

Katie Holmes made her latest fashionable appearance in London to preview her new collection for Holmes & Yang at upscale department store Harvey Nichols Tuesday evening. Katie was joined by her design partner, Jeanne Yang, as well as Heather McQuarrie to pose for pictures amid the racks. Katie first popped up overseas yesterday, when she attended the Giorgio Armani Privé Haute Couture show. She was coming off celebrating husband Tom Cruise's birthday with a family-filled weekend in Miami, where she and the kids threw him a surprise party. Katie Holmes sported a bikini while Tom and their daughter Suri were decked out in festive face paint for a Sunday by the pool before the actress jetted off for her solo trip abroad. There's a term in mystery writing called a "locked room mystery." You know the sort, a crime--typically a murder--is discovered in which the deed occurred behind a locked door. Unless the killer is still in the room, there is seemingly no means of egress from this chamber, resulting in a baffling and impossible situation. NBC's new summertime mystery-drama series Persons Unknown, from executive producers Chrisopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects), Heather McQuarrie, and Remi Aubuchon, aims to be the television version of such a locked room mystery, revolving not around a singular crime but rather a central mystery: how did a group of seven strangers find themselves taken from their ordinary lives and deposited into a seemingly deserted town? And why is it impossible to leave this place? The premise alone warrants comparisons both to Lost and to the seminal 1960s British television series The Prisoner, with its use of inescapable and remote scenery,...

My only issue with NBC’s “Persons Unknown” pilot? It was too short! But hey, that’s why they call it a pilot, right? Check out our review of the pilot episode here. In the meantime, here’s a minute long behind-the-scenes look at the show. As expected, while the pilot sets up the premise, there are plenty of action in later episodes. From Academy Award-winning writer Christopher McQuarrie (“The Usual Suspects”) and executive producers Heather McQuarrie and Rémi Aubuchon comes “Persons Unknown,” a one-hour mystery drama in which a group of seven strangers must come together to solve the puzzle of their lives. All of them have been taken from their everyday lives and have arrived in a deserted town with no recollection of how they got there. The eclectic group of strangers are Charlie Morse (Alan Ruck, “Spin City”); Janet Cooper (Daisy Betts, “Shutter”); Joe Tucker (Jason Wiles,...
