Nathan Fillion thought Ant-Man was a low-rung superhero before he saw Paul Rudd carrying the role easily. He was surprised when Rudd made the character almost endearing to him. Earlier it was rumored that Fillion was considered for the Ant-Man role. The rumors started after Joss Whedon directed The Avengers, as he and the director had worked together on Firefly.

He who watches the watchmen must light the lantern. Damon Lindelof, who ran HBO’s adaptation of Watchmen, will now take charge of a Green Lantern series titled Lanterns. And he’s not the only major name attached.
As James Gunn posted on social media over the weekend: “Yes, it’s true. The Lanterns Dcu series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof. A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family.”
Outside of Watchmen, Lindelof was of course a key contributor to Lost. As Gunn noted, Lanterns will also feature work by Ozark’s Chris Mundy and DC comics staple Tom King. Others that have been tied to the show include The Strain’s Justin Britt-Gibson, The Penguin’s Brennah Gibson and Animal Kingdom’s Vanessa Baden Kelly.

DC Studios' upcoming Green Lantern TV show, "Lanterns," has assembled its writer corps. Co-CEO James Gunn confirmed on Instagram today that the series' pilot script and show bible was written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and DC Comics writer Tom King, who has been part of the DC Universe's creative team since the start.
"Lanterns" was first announced in January 2023, along with the rest of the "Gods and Monsters" slate, as it's been dubbed by Gunn and his fellow co-ceo, Peter Safran. It's a soft reboot for the DC Extended Universe, which fizzled out into a succession of box office bombs, and is currently taking a bit of a breather while Gunn and Safran assemble this massive new slate of films and TV shows. Gunn is also getting personally stuck in, writing and directing the upcoming "Superman" movie reboot and continuing his creative duties on "Peacemaker" for season 2.

If there's one thing we've learned in this social media age, it's that some people have a very good memory (meaning a once innocent comment can come back to haunt even the best of us).
Earlier today, it was confirmed that Max's Lanterns has tapped Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof to pen the pilot and a "bible" for the long-awaited TV series. Now, James Gunn's one-time thoughts on the latter have been revealed in a resurfaced Facebook comment.
Way back on March 18, 2012, the DC Studios co-ceo and Superman director said, "Lindelof is close to Satan in my book because of the end of Lost. He's the Uri Gellar of storytellers, a total scam artist with no integrity whatsoever. And a liar."
Something must have changed since then as it was only a few hours ago that Gunn took to Instagram and Threads to proclaim "A hearty welcome...

Hausmann-Stokes co-wrote, directed and produced the feature, also starring Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Gloria Reuben and more, which marks the first executive producer credit for recent Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce as he looks to further expand his entertainment career.

HBO’s officially renewed True Detective for season five. Season four, True Detective: Night Country, was the most-watched season overall, drawing in 12.7 million viewers. It was also the first season that focused on women in the leading roles, and the first with Issa López in charge as writer, director, showrunner, and executive producer.
Showrunner Issa López will return in the same capacity for season five, and has just signed a new multiyear overall deal with HBO. The deal means López will create new content, including season five, for HBO and Max.
“From conception to release, Night Country has been the most beautiful collaboration and adventure of my entire creative life,” stated Issa López. “HBO trusted my vision all the way, and the idea of bringing to life a new incarnation of True Detective with Casey, Francesca, and the whole team is a dream come true.

Just yesterday, we heard that Tigers Are Not Afraid filmmaker Issa López, who directed and co-wrote all six episodes of the fourth season of the HBO anthology crime series True Detective (a season that’s known as True Detective: Night Country) “might” come back to do another season of the show. Now it’s a sure thing. Variety has broken the news that HBO has ordered True Detective season 5, and López, who has just secured new overall deal with the network, will be back at the helm.
True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto was the mastermind behind the first three seasons of the show, but once the third season wrapped up, his HBO deal expired and he signed a new (short-lived) deal with FX. HBO retained the ownership rights to True Detective, and with Pizzolatto gone they were interested in bringing in someone who had “a fresh voice with a different...

Additionally, Night Country showrunner Issa López has signed an overall deal with the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned cabler and will return to steer the fifth season after taking over the franchise from creator Nic Pizzolatto. López will also create and develop new projects for HBO.
“Issa López is that one-of-a-kind, rare talent that speaks directly to HBO’s creative spirit. She helmed True Detective: Night Country from start to finish, never once faltering from her own commendable vision, and inspiring us with her resilience both on the page and behind the camera,” HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi said in a statement. “Alongside Jodie [Foster] and Kali [Reis]’ impeccable performances, she’s made this installation of the franchise a massive success, we are...

True Detective is coming back for a fifth season at HBO.
Issa López, who served as showrunner for True Detective: Night Country, the fourth and most successful iteration of the crime franchise, will oversee the next installment as part of an overall deal she signed with the network.
It’s yet to be decided as to whether season five of True Detective will be related to Night Country or will be an entirely new story.
However, what’s clear is that, despite creator Nic Pizzolato’s criticisms, López’s season has brought a return to form for the True Detective universe, becoming the most-watched season with 12.7 million cross platform viewers.
As part of López’s new multiyear deal, she will also create new content for HBO and Max.

Following the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Dceu was officially concluded and Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu officially took over as the primary cinematic universe for DC characters. Now we do know that plenty of projects are in development as a part of Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, and one of the most notable ones is a live-action show focusing on Green Lanterns aptly titled ‘Lanterns.’
Geoff Johns originally had a script for a Green Lantern Corps film set in the Dceu, scheduled for release by the end of 2019. However, plans shifted when it was announced in April 2020 that Johns would produce a Green Lantern Corps series for HBO Max, suggesting a change in direction. Efforts have been made to distance the series from the CW’s Arrowverse, possibly to appeal to those disinterested in the Arrowverse’s lower-budget productions.

At 60 years old, Jodie Foster has gracefully accepted her new place in the industry as a mentor, offering her wisdom as a seasoned veteran to the next generation of actors navigating Hollywood.
“The part they don’t tell you when you turn 60 is that it’s so much fun because it’s not your time anymore. It’s someone else’s time, and the best part of getting older is realizing that you actually have something to give back. You have something to contribute, to help support other people’s performances, and to help spur other voices that haven’t been heard before,” said Foster.
It’s a sentiment her “True Detectives” co-stars echoed on the red carpet on Tuesday night (which comes days after Foster’s comments regarding Gen-z’s work ethic made headlines), telling Variety that they earned a master-class in acting from the “Nyad” star.

“True Detective” Season 4, subtitled “Night Country,” opens with a quote: “For we do not know what beasts the night dreams when its hours grow too long for even God to be awake.” Sans context, the statement seems a fitting framework for a murder-mystery set during an Alaskan town’s weeks-long stretch of perpetual darkness. But franchise acolytes may feel a sudden jolt when the accredited speaker’s name appears onscreen: Hildred Castaigne. Hmm… Hildred Castaigne… why does that ring a bell? Oh, perhaps because Hildred isn’t a real person; he’s a narrator, created by author Robert Chambers, to tell a story in his 1895 horror collection, “The King in Yellow” — the very book that some Reddit sleuths dubbed the “key” to understanding “True Detective” Season 1, or at least all its mutterings about satanic cults, Carcosa, and the Yellow King.
Leading off Season 4 with such a direct reference to the past is a bold choice.

The new trailer for the upcoming season of HBO’s hit crime show True Detective has just been released courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter. Season 4 of the anthology brings audiences to Alaska, where the location is known for having days of constant sunlight as well as constant darkness. Both extremes have been depicted in films like Christopher Nolan‘s Insomnia and the vampire movie 30 Days of Night. This new trailer has Jodie Foster back at odds with a mysterious killer, which will ring memories of Silence of the Lambs, and she pairs up with Kali Reis to solve a case that seems to tread on supernatural elements. It also looks as if this season is connecting to past seasons with the reveal of a spiral marking that has been featured in season one and season three.

The latest trailer for True Detective: Night Country puts a strong emphasis on just how unsettling the long periods of darkness in Alaska can be.
The fourth season of HBO’s anthology series stars Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as two detectives — who evidently have some not-so-great history with one another — investigating the disappearance of eight scientists from an arctic research station as the months without sunlight descend on Alaska. “To solve the case,” the show’s logline reads, “Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
The trailer also expands on an earlier teaser by offering up a few more details about the case — and showcasing the crooked spiral iconography that’s a visual signature for True Detective, having featured in seasons one and three (which...

January brings a chill in the air — and to Max — with Season 4 of the crime drama series “True Detective.”
Jodie Foster and Kali Reis join the ranks of previous case solvers like Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Mahershala Ali, Taylor Kitsch, Colin Farrell, and Rachel McAdams with the latest season, set in the frigid darkness of Alaska, and where the sun literally never shines. HBO has unveiled the first trailer for the long-awaited return of "True Detective." The preview for the latest installment in the beloved anthology series, titled "True Detective: Night Country," was revealed during a big press event for Warner Bros. Discovery's new big streaming service Max, which will combine HBO Max and Discovery+ under one roof. As part of that, they unveiled our first look at the show's fourth season, which stars Jodie Foster ("The Silence of the Lambs") in the lead role.
This is the first time the show has been on the air since season 3 arrived in 2019, with Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali headlining that installment. Fortunately, with Max in need of high-profile shows, it paved the way for a new season, which looks like it will fit right at home with what viewers have come to expect. Let's have a look.
