Stars: Sheri Moon Zombie, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Ken Foree, Judy Geeson, Meg Foster, Dee Wallace, Bruce Davison, Maria Conchita Alonso, Michael Berryman, Sid Haig | Written and Directed by Rob Zombie
Darling (or deviant, depending on who you ask) of the horror genre, rock-star-turned-director Rob Zombie is back with his fifth live-action feature film, The Lords of Salem, a story of witchcraft and satanism in modern-day Boston.
Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie) works as a DJ at a local Boston radio station along with fellow DJs, Herman Whitey Salvador (Jeff Daniel Phillips) and Herman Jackson (played by the legendary Ken Foree). Following one of their late night shows, Heidi receives a square wooden box containing a vinyl record addressed only to her, with only a note proclaiming “A gift from the Lords” to identify it. Assuming it is merely a PR stunt by an ambitious band, Heidi gives the record a spin...

With his latest film out now, Matt looks back at Rob Zombie's directing career to date, leading up to the nightmarish Lords Of Salem...
I love Rob Zombie. Here at Den Of Geek, we prefer to match the film to the writer most likely to enjoy it. You know, we actually like enjoying films. I’m Den Of Geek’s go to guy for all things Rob Zombie, and not just because I look weird and have a cool beard. What I’m getting at here is that if you’re looking to have a moan about the divisive director, this isn’t the article you’re after. Try Google, you’ll definitely find it. But we’re celebrating Rob Zombie over here, and we’re simply having too much fun to have time for anyone trying to bring us down.

Looking at actor Meg Foster’s resume brought on a feeling of disbelief for me. I know her as a sci-fi and horror genre icon. Most people in my circle know her from such films as They Live, Masters of the Universe, Stepfather II, and Oblivion as well as TV shows like Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Sliders.
Her roster of work stretches way further than that, beginning in 1969. She’s starred in legendary shows and movies like Bonanza, Hawaii Five-o, Cagney & Lacey, Murder, She Wrote, and several others.
Ms. Foster adds another notch in her horror belt with Rob Zombie’s new film The Lords of Salem. She portrays Margaret Morgan, the head of a coven of witches who are burned at the stake because of their heresy. She curses the women of the town of Salem, Massachusetts and swears to...

Rob Zombie films are very hard for me to review. They're full of bad people doing even worse things to other people. The entire time I'm watching them, they bring out this disgust and realization that there are individuals out there as twisted as the ones onscreen. Some horror flicks are fun to watch, but Zombie's movies are devoid of humor for the most part and just feel depraved. It's what he does as a director and he's good at it. He continues this trend with The Lords of Salem.
The Lords of Salem tells the story of a radio DJ named Heidi (Sherri Moon Zombie) who receives a mysterious package as "a gift from the Lords." She opens it to find a vinyl album which, when played, has a strange hypnotic effect on her. When the record is played over the air, it affects all the women of Salem,...

Burn, Witch, Burn: Zombie Conquers His Cross to Bear
Don’t be so sure of what to expect when walking into Rob Zombie’s latest feature, The Lords of Salem, at once a familiar homage to genre classics past at the same time it’s building an invasively sordid atmosphere all its own. Zombie fans may very well be disappointed, especially if you find yourself among the many champions of the churlishly exploitational elements of some of his more prized entries, like 2005’s The Devil’s Rejects (where Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Free Bird at least gets used for appropriate effect, a track ill abused in fare by Robert Zemeckis and Cameron Crowe), as Zombie turns in a slower paced and decidedly mature effort that, gloriously, features one of the grandest unforgettable finales in a film of its nature.

At age 31, Cinematographer Brandon Trost is still considered a youngster in a racket that consists mostly of older men with flowing gray hair and/or unkempt artistic temperaments.
With over 70 titles on IMDb, the young cinematographer has paid more than his share of dues, working on gonzo film sets with gonzo talent (Crank: High Voltage, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance). On each film, or at least once he climbed out of the indie trenches with the Crank sequel, Trost has added his own distinctive look to each film he has touched, regardless of the quality of source material. With the upcoming Townies and This Is the End, Trost is quickly becoming the go-to guy in Hollywood for cream of the crop talent in multiple genres, forging lasting friendships with directors and actors alike. Legendary actress Meg Foster plays Margaret Morgan in the new Rob Zombie film, The Lords of Salem, which hits theaters on April 19. Foster was kind enough to sit down with Dread Central and talk about her role, the film and working with Rob Zombie.
Foster began by filling us in on just what we can expect when seeing The Lords of Salem. "It's about Heidi, mostly," Foster said, referring to Heidi Hawthorne, the lead character played by Sheri Moon Zombie, "and her co-workers, played by Jeff Daniel Phillips and Ken Foree, who are DJs at a radio station in Salem, Massachusetts. Heidi receives a record which is on vinyl, and it's strange and it has, in my opinion, absolutely fabulous music. It's this haunting tune which sort of casts a spell on some people. Heidi has stopped doing drugs or alcohol and she's dealing with that, and the music on this record,...

After his contentious first features (House of a 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects), two Halloween remakes and a feature animation, Rob Zombie returns to the horror genre, once again casting his wife as the lead.
"As I write these very words Margaret Morgan gathers with her coven," scribbles Jonathan Hawthorne in 1696. In the flash of his quill, we meet a group of far-from-hot naked women chanting together: "All hail unholy father - make your presence known this night..." Their nudity is more likely to put you off your food than turn you on as unnerving music accompanies before we're transported to the present. An unclothed dread-locked Sheri Moon Zombie instantly draws parallels to the coven, awakening in a darkened room in a similarly grimy state.
Expect lots of cackling, strange whispers and flashes of ram's horns, as well as a useful distinction between destiny and fate (destiny apparently lets you premeditate...

Though dogs and cats usually get all the love from humans, we'd be remiss if we didn't acknowledge the fact that spectral demons need companionship, too. Especially in Salem, where they've had a bit of a rough time over the centuries.

In this contemporary-set blend of Rosemary's Baby and The Conqueror Worm, Rob's best girl Sheri Moon Zombie plays Heidi Hawthorne, a radio jock in Salem, Massachusetts. Like most of her friends and associates, Heidi is a native who regards Salem's notorious reputation as a place for burning witches as little more than colorful local folklore. She receives a record at the station from a band that calls themselves only "The Lords", and when she and her fellow deejays Whitey (Jeff Daniel Phillips) and Herman (Ken Foree) play the record on air Heidi immediately becomes ill. She's not the only one affected by the record, as the broadcast triggers a very Stepford Wives reaction in dozens of women throughout Salem. Afterwards, weird events start to pile up in Heidi's life, including the appearance of her landlady's two wiccan friends and multiple hallucinations that seem to originate in the mysterious apartment number five.

Rob Zombie took a little break from The Lords of Salem during his recent tour, but is back to work and hoping to have it wrapped up by the end of August. During a recent interview he provided a status update and let fans know to expect more of a psychological horror film:
Where are you at with The Lords of Salem?
I’m in the final stages of finishing the film. By the end of August, we’ll be done. The sound designers are still creating some of the sound effects for the movie. Once they’re done, I’ll go into the mix stage in August and mix the final sound for the movie. Then, I’ll be done.
In Halloween II, you traversed darker, dreamier territory. Are you going down that psychological road further with The Lords of Salem? The Devil’s Rejects and House of 1000 Corpses are more visceral.

We've seen tons of stills and behind-the-scenes images from Rob Zombie's latest film, The Lords of Salem, but really not much beyond that. No trailer, no clips, nothing. That being said, Artist Direct caught up with Rob and came back with a status report.
“I’m in the final stages of finishing the film. By the end of August, we’ll be done. The sound designers are still creating some of the sound effects for the movie. Once they’re done, I’ll go into the mix stage in August and mix the final sound for the movie. Then, I’ll be done,” Zombie explains.
“This movie is definitely a slow psychological burn…It’s a weird movie,” Zombie continues. “When you watch it, it seems like there’s not a lot happening for a while. However, what’s happening is you’re starting to get sucked into the pace of the movie though.
