Won the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and the French Croix De Geurre during his time in the Royal Airforce.
Best remembered for his work on seven of the James Bond films in the 1960's and early 1970's.
He was the first South African to win an Academy Award.
Came to Great Britain in 1930 from South Africa.
Served in British Royal Air Force during WWII; served in the film unit for part of that time.
Member of BSC (British Society of Cinematographers).
