Lauryn Hill was announced Wednesday as one of the lead singers on Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis’s new concept album of The Warriors.
As for whether the concept album, which also features Busta Rhymes, Rza, Ghostface Killah, Colman Domingo and more alongside an all-female gang, will become the Hamilton creator’s next full-length stage show, Miranda said it will depend on the reception.
“The plan is just to release it and see how people respond,” Miranda said at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in Manhattan Wednesday. He added that the project did not have a director or producers yet attached.
The album, due to be released Oct. 18, musicalizes the 1979 film that follows a street gang making their way from the Bronx to their home in Coney Island and encountering other gangs en route.

The 60th quadrennial presidential elections for the United States of America are right around the corner, and the buzz surrounding who could win is as strong as ever. And, especially after the heated debate between Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Vice Prez Kamala Harris on Tuesday night, the latter seems to be in the winning league as even Taylor Swift joins her side.

The series of events behind this, however, was nothing short of truly hilarious. While other Hollywood celebrities have been choosing Harris for their own reasons, the childless cat lady’s endorsement of her came only after the debate concluded, and it seems like Trump’s “They’re eating the pets” statement while referring to the Springfield incident has seriously rubbed Swift the wrong way.

Jessica Alba is continuing her climate advocacy — this time with a hosting gig at the Latino Victory Project’s second annual Brunch Like a Madre rally to launch its 2024 Vote Like a Madre campaign.
Vote Like a Madre is a nonpartisan program that works to educate the public on climate issues and increase Latina voter turnout. It will invest more than $2 million in voter turnout this year. The event featured panels on the climate crisis and the impact of unnatural disasters and extreme weather on Latin communities across the United States.
“This is a major, major year… Voting like a Madre is channeling that Latina energy of someone who is the center of the household,” the actress said in her speech on Monday. “You don’t have to be a woman either to channel that madre energy, either. You expect certain things from a Barry Jenkins project: beautifully tender characterisation; poetically-presented stories of Black lives; some of the most gorgeous images ever committed to film. What you don’t expect from a Barry Jenkins movie, typically, is talking lions. That all changes with Mufasa: The Lion King. His next feature film is a photoreal-animated prequel to Jon Favreau’s 2019 The Lion King, digging into the backstory of Mufasa and Scar, complete with all-new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda. Quite the departure, then, from Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, and The Underground Railroad.
Or is it? As Jenkins tells Empire, even Mufasa is in line with his previous work. “The script told the story of two families,” he explains in the Gladiator II issue. “The family that’s created between the characters we come to know as Scar and Mufasa, and the other family that Mufasa builds and...

If you’ve been keeping up with Star Wars news recently, you’ll know that ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte,’ the latest addition to the franchise, has been canceled after just 8 episodes. The show faced controversy even before its premiere, and its poor quality, combined with a hefty $180 million budget, only made matters worse for everyone involved.
Although the show started off well, with viewership numbers just slightly below ‘Ahsoka,’ it quickly began to lose viewers week after week, and criticism on social media intensified.
Despite its cancellation, The Acolyte has managed to gather a devoted fanbase that’s now pushing for Disney+ to renew the show. The hashtag #SaveTheAcolyte is trending on X (formerly Twitter), and a Change.org petition has already garnered 43,342 signatures. But what are the chances of the show actually getting renewed?

Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 2, as that’s when the 97th Academy Awards will air on ABC. A master of ceremonies has yet to be named for the annual trophy gala, so now is the perfect time to predict who might be tapped to host by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Remember, four-time emcee Jimmy Kimmel has decided to take a break this year, and comedian John Mulaney has also reportedly removed his name from contention. So who should host the 2025 Oscars? Vote in our poll below.
Obviously, one of the most important factors for the academy to consider when choosing an Oscar host would be their popularity. Who is famous enough to bring lots and lots of eyeballs to the ceremony and help sell those all-important ad dollars? And since the Academy Awards are broadcast in dozens of countries, it would help for that person to be famous worldwide.

When Mufasa: The Lion King dropped its first trailer in April, Scar’s storyline was notably absent in the prequel. However, Taka aka Scar appears in the new trailer released at D23’s Friday night presentation and a young Scar has a major role in the film. While fans expected to see a brother growing jealous of Mufasa’s ascend to power, the trailer completely threw us off with the good guy Taka.
A still from Mufasa: The Lion King | Walt Disney Pictures
Barry Jenkins managed to grab the audience’s sympathy for a character, whom fans have despised for years. The trailer shows Taka first meeting Mufasa, an orphan who’s lost. Taka wants to take him along as a brother, despite opposition from everyone, including his parents, since he is supposed to be the future king.

With one trailer already out there in the cinematic Pride Lands, Mufasa: The Lion King continues in its quest to justify a prequel movie to both Jon Favreau's 2019 CG effort and the 1994 animated epic original. Having Barry Jenkins as the filmmaker guiding the new film is certainly a solid start, leading to some beautiful new imagery utilizing the impressive, photo-real technology that Favs and his team developed. For Mufasa, the narrative spins back the clock to find the future king in his cub days, and how he came to meet the lion brother to be known as Scar, in the years before they were enemies. Check out the new trailer that dropped at Disney's giant D23 event:
Mufasa tells its story through two branches: one features Rafiki (John Kani) explaining to Kiara (Blue Ivy Carter), the daughter of Simba (Donald Glover) and Nala (Beyoncé) how her grandfather survived his tough childhood.

Grab your boat, your oar, and your emotional support pig: Moana 2 has a brand new trailer. Earlier this year came the news that Disney’s long-gestating Moana streaming series had instead turned into a theatrical sequel to the 2016 adventure – not only seeing Auli’i Cravalho return as the chief and wayfinder of her people, but bringing back The Rock’s shapeshifting semi-demi-god Maui to boot. At the D23 Expo in Anaheim, the studio unveiled the epic full trailer for the sequel – one that shifts the action three years on from the events of the first film, and sees Moana going on a mission to reunite more island people who have long been separated from her community. But there’s a terrifying purple storm out there ready to wreak havoc – and to get beyond it, she’ll need a certain demigod of the land and sea at her side. Give the...

Last night, Disney's show-stopping "Entertainment Showcase" panel concluded with Mufasa: The Lion King director Barry Jenkins, songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda, and cast members Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Theo Somolu, Braelyn Rankins, and Anika Noni Rose hitting the stage.

“My name is Percy Jackson. I am a demigod.” We all knew that Percy Jackson and the Olympians would be getting a season two based on its massive viewership numbers, but seeing the teaser out of D23 is just what the fans deserve.
In the footage, we see Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) facing off against monsters and getting cued up for what will surely be his greatest challenges so far. Scobell, too, looks and sounds comfortable reprising the character made famous in Rick Riordan’s book series. This season is, appropriately, based on the second book in the series, The Sea of Monsters.

Can you feel the love tonight? Jenkins’ “Mufasa” uses the same photorealistic imagery present in Jon Favreau’s remake of “The Lion King” from 2019 and will also feature some of the same voice cast including Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Kani. To the tune of “Circle of Life,” “Moonlight” director Barry Jenkins took the stage at D23 to show off a new look at “Mufasa,” the prequel to “The Lion King” that hits theaters this December.
And he didn’t come alone. He was joined by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is composing new songs for the film.
Miranda showed off a never-before seen clip with one of his new songs called “I Always Wanted a Brother.” The clip shows Taka, the royal prince who will one day be known as Scar. Taka’s father, the Lion King Obasi, doesn’t like the idea that his son has befriended a stray in Mufasa, but the cub has always wanted a brother, and he’s determined to make sure Mufasa will be embraced by the pride.
The new clip shows Mufasa and Taka frolicking through the Pride Lands, first as cubs and then as young lions.

Curious how far Disney will go to expand on the popularity of a relatively new character in their arsenal? Consider the fact that this sequel was initially set to be a musical series on Disney+, but Bob Iger had so much faith in it, he decided to shift it into a theatrical sequel at the same time as they were prepping a live action remake of the first film. While the original “Moana” was helmed by Disney mainstays Ron Clements and John Musker, the sequel will be guided by first-time director David Derrick Jr., who was a storyboard artist on the first film as well as “The Lion King” (2019), “Raya and the Last Dragon,” and “Encanto.”

Bob Iger got a rock star-worthy welcome Friday night, as roughly 12,000 screaming fans gave the Disney CEO a standing ovation as he kicked off a super-sized panel at D23.

A new minute-long TV spot for Mufasa: The Lion King has aired which confirms a new trailer is coming "tomorrow".
As with 2019's The Lion King, the visuals are nothing short of extraordinary. The difference this time, of course, is that we're getting a new story and not a shot-for-shot remake of the original animated movie. That was a real sticking point for some five years ago.
We also see a few familiar characters scattered through the teaser, including Zazu! Check out the teaser below (via Toonado.com).

While defending Louisiana’s controversial new legislation requiring the Ten Commandments be displayed in all classrooms, including K-12 schools, colleges, and universities, Republican Gov. Jeff Landry and Attorney General Liz Murrill on Monday unveiled sample posters that feature liberal icons, including the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Hamilton playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Louisiana passed its Ten Commandments law in June. The American Civil Liberties Union and other advocacy groups have filed a lawsuit arguing that the law violates “the separation of church and state and is blatantly unconstitutional.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis have teamed up with Nas and producer Mike Elizondo for Warriors, a new hip-hop concept album based on the 1979 film The Warriors. The album will be out everywhere on October 18th via Atlantic Records.
The original film The Warriors was adapted from Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel of the same name, and follows a New York City street gang as they travel from Coney Island to the Bronx and back when they are framed for the murder of a respected gang leader, Cyrus. Now, Lin-Manuel Miranda and playwright and actress Eisa Davis have taken the gang’s multi-hour, 30 mile journey and adapted it into a musical score.
Nas serves as executive producer with Mike Elizondo assuming duties behind the boards. The project promises an “immersive” listening experience, as well as “star-studded cast of voices” lending their talents to Warriors, but no names have been revealed yet.

It’s taken a year since it was announced, but Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis’ adaptation of The Warriors is finally headed to Coney Island. But instead of stopping at Broadway — like you might expect from the Hamilton creator and Davis, who was a Pulitzer finalist for her play Bulrusher — the duo’s Warriors are going wide with a 26-track concept album, executive produced by Nas and produced by Mike Elizondo (50 Cent, Twenty-One Pilots). The record, which is based on the cult 1979 gangsploitation flick and Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel of the same name,...
