- German actress and singer, an embodiment of "Berliner Schnauze". On stage in Cologne from 1929. Her early career encompassed ballet and cabaret, as well as film operettas and lightweight comedies. She only made her mark in the early 70's as a dramatic actress in nine films directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Towards the end of her career was regarded as a national treasure.

- Was awarded the Cross of Merit, 1. Class (Verdienstkreuz 1. Klasse) in 1981. This was upgraded in 1995 to the Great Cross of Merit (Großes Verdienstkreuz).
