Exclusive: Compelling Pictures is coming on to produce and finance the high-concept psychological horror thriller The Blur, written and being directed by emerging director Joe Miale. Denis O’Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri are producing for Compelling, alongside Scott Carr and Josh Crook. Carr brought the project to Compelling back in 2020 as a pitch and Miale wrote the script.
The film follows a visually-impaired family tormented by a ghost only seen by those who have severe myopia. It introduces a villain named Smudge to the horror pantheon, and will use innovative visual techniques–largely in-camera–to bring the terrifying character to life. Producers cited a 2021 study by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness estimated that 43 million people worldwide are considered legally blind, while 295 million people worldwide live with moderate-to-severe visual impairment. And also noted the World Health Organization has estimated that approximately 2.2 billion people worldwide have some level of near or distance vision impairment.

It’s a known fact that movies influence and feed off each other. With so many being made, it’s becoming harder every time to do something truly original; it’s up to filmmakers to use well-known elements in fresh, new ways. Take Joe Miale’s sci-fi action film Revolt, a hodgepodge of other films, which still manages to carve out its own identity. It’s a simple setup: Earth (or at least Africa, in this case) is invaded by mechanical aliens that make a lot of whirring noises and have weapons that can turn humans into literal dust. Humanity fights back, but rather than focus on the big battle, Miale gives us the story of an amnesiac soldier known as Bo (Lee Pace) and sexy French doctor Nadia (one-time...

"The machines are hunting everyone down. Machines programmed to kill." Vertical Entertainment has unveiled a new official Us trailer for the sci-fi indie film titled Revolt, from director Joe Miale making his feature debut. The film stars Lee Pace as a Us soldier in Africa attempting to fight back against a brutal alien invasion. This kind of seems a bit like a mash-up between District 9 and Transformers, with robot-like alien creatures taking over. Also starring Bérénice Marlohe (who was also in the sci-fi Kill Switch, as well as Skyfall and Song to Song), plus Jason Flemyng, Alan Santini, and Tom Fairfoot. I'm actually very curious about this, might be pretty cool. I dig the machines' designs, different than most other alien designs. Here's the official Us trailer for Joe Miale's sci-fi Revolt, direct from YouTube (via Tmb): You can also still watch the first international trailer for Revolt here,...

"Must have some weakness, something we can use against them." A full-length trailer has been unveiled for an indie sci-fi project titled Revolt, from director Joe Miale making his feature debut. Quiet Earth has debuted the trailer for Joe Miale's Revolt. Aka Prisoner of War, this sci-fi thriller was shot in South Africa. Completed in 2015, the film will see its premiere in Japan, this Summer. A North American release date remains elusive. Revolt stars Lee Pace (The Fall, 2006) as a U.S. soldier, fighting off an alien invasion. Though, the aliens look very robotic. Revolt also stars: Bérénice Marlohe and Amy Louise Wilson. The film's official trailer, courtesy of Dutch FilmWorks, is hosted here. The synopsis, from distribution house, Voltage Pictures, mentions a French aid worker. Together, Bo (Pace) and Nadia (Marlohe) stave off mankind's extinction as the world is overrun by robotic juggernauts. The war looks hopeless, unless new technology can be developed, to thwart the onslaught. The trailer shows some of the film's special effects. The alien force is almost entirely developed via CGI. Meanwhile, the settings show...

Lee Pace has played roles in some of Hollywood's biggest franchises like The Hobbit trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy and now he's taking a leading role in an alien invasion movie called Revolt. The trailer looks like a cross between War of the Worlds and District 9. Revolt is helmed by first time director Joe Miale and is co-written by Rowan Athale (Wasteland)
SyFy Wire describes the plot:
Pace plays an American soldier in a war-ravaged African country who joins forces with a French foreign aid worker, played by Skyfall’s Berenice Marlohe, “amid humankind’s last stand against a cataclysmic alien invasion.” Their partnership will be tested when they seek refuge from the alien threat.
There is no U.S. release date yet.

Damn, this flick looks great! Here’s a first look at Lee Pace's alien-invasion flick, Revolt, directed by Joe Miale based on a script he co-wrote with Rowan Athale and co-starring Berenice Marlohe.

After attempting to wreak havoc in space as the villain Ronan the Accuser in Marvel's latest hit Guardians of the Galaxy, actor Lee Pace is sticking with sci-fi for his next major role. Deadline reports the star of AMC's series "Halt & Catch Fire" and The Hobbit trilogy is taking a lead role in Prisoner of War, a new sci-fi thriller from music video director Joe Miale. Pace is replacing Chronicle star Alex Russell in the film which will pair the actor with Skyfall vixen Bérénice Marlohe in the story of an American soldier and a French foreign aid worker who team up in Africa amidst humankind’s last stand against an alien invasion. Pace seems to be on the rise, though maybe not as quickly as his Guardians of the Galaxy co-star Chris Pratt. This winter he'll be back on the big screen as Elf King Thranduil in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies...

Lee Pace is currently on our screens as the vengeful, face-painted fundamentalist Ronan The Accuser in Guardians Of The Galaxy. But for Prisoner Of War, he’ll have to face off against aliens as a human warrior instead. Pace replaces Chronicle’s Alex Russell in the film, which sees him as an American soldier alongside a French foreign aid worker (Skyfall’s Bérénice Marlohe) who are sent to Africa. It sounds like a crusading drama, but factor in that humanity is in the middle of a last stand against a devastating alien invasion. And you have to figure that given the title, it’s not going to go well for either.Joe Miale, who has plied his trade on music videos, game tie-ins, straight-to-dvd efforts and shorts, is making the jump to feature films with this one, writing the script with Rowan Athale. The latest short film on the Machinima Prime channel plays out a classic gamer fantasy: What if I was the main character? The film is called Game World, and it follows an ordinary joe as he gets off the couch and jumps into the world of his favorite video game. Game World stars Joaquin Pastor as Monty, an extraordinary lazy couch potato who is determined to find a secret level in his favorite 8-bit dungeon crawler. When he successfully enters the secret code, a portal opens up in his living room, inviting him to enter the titular game world. The premise may first remind web series fans of Legend of Neil, which also sent a schlubby protagonist into a video game universe. If Game World were to become a full series, its closest comparison would be Ready Player One, the award-winning novel set within various classic video games. Creator Joe Miale...

Sure, "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag" hero Edward Kenway is a pirate and high-seas hijacker, but when it comes to land-based theft, he has to draw a line in this new short.
"Assassin's Creed: Checkmate" was created by Joe Miale, who both wrote and directed the short which serves as a little side mission for pirate Edward Kenway, played by Reuben Langdon. This is Miale's fourth produced short as a writer with the upcoming "Half-Life: Raise the Bar."
Langdon's the interesting story here, with a list of credits coordinating stunts and providing motion capture for films and games like "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," "Avatar," and this October's "Batman: Arkham Origins." Here, he's got Edward's look and moves down as the pirate thrashes a group of thieves in a seedy tavern (although what kind was there in the Age of Pirates?"
