- In an incident that effectively ended his career, McSorley hit fellow enforcer Donald Brashear upside the head with his stick in the last moments of the Boston Bruins-Vancouver Canucks game. Brashear lost consciousness and suffered a Grade 3 concussion. He has since fully recovered and continues to play. McSorley was suspended for 1 year -- the longest suspension ever given to a player in NHL history. (February 21, 2000)
- A Vancouver, B.C. jury found McSorley guilty of assault with a weapon on Donald Brashear, but wouldn't have any charges go on his record if he completed 18 months of probation. The trial was the first for an on-ice attack by an NHL player since 1988. (October 4, 2000)
