However, his message of inclusion and his denial of hell has become a model, and his impact in gospel music continues to inspire new generations of artists.

Three years ago, Laria McCormick, the singer who performs as Marzz, found themself in turmoil. The non-binary artist had grown up attending church regularly and singing in the choir, but they were starting to feel a disconnect between their identity and their beliefs. In 2019, they began writing freestyles in the Notes app on their phone. This expression would eventually pay off, serving as inspiration for Marzz’s 2021 breakthrough track “Countless Times.”

The late, great Adolph Robert Thornton Jr. spent his entire rap career campaigning to be the King of Memphis, through his soul-stirring music and a selfless generosity to his community that felt as large as the signature diamond-encrusted Paper Route Empire dolphin that stayed around his neck. On a warm and somber day, Dec. 16 — nearly a month after his life was tragically cut short — Young Dolph’s life was celebrated in royal fashion at Memphis’ FedEx Forum, in a building full of family, peers, friends, and supporters from all across Tennessee.

Taylor Swift hasn’t performed at an awards show in almost three years, but she’s about to do “Something Bad” at the 2018 American Music Awards. She will open the AMAs with a performance of her song “I Did Something Bad” from her album “Reputation.” And something good might come out of it: she could also win four awards this year, including Artist of the Year.
To date Swift has won a whopping 19 AMAs in her career, and she currently holds the record for the most Artist of the Year victories of all time with three. This year she’s up against Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons, Drake and Post Malone for that top award. The 2018 American Music Awards telecast is filling up fast. The October 9 event hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross has added another trio of performers to its lineup: Ciara, Missy Elliott and Dua Lipa. Who are you most excited to see at the 46th annual kudos?
Ciara and Missy Elliott will team up to perform the song “Level Up,” and Ciara will also perform “Dose” from her upcoming album. Ciara hasn’t performed at the AMAs since 2005, which also marked her first nomination at the awards. She contended that year for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist, and she was nominated again in that race in 2013, but she has yet to win. Missy Elliott, meanwhile, is a two-time winner for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Female Artist. That award is now defunct; the AMAs now award rap artists in a single gender-neutral category.

Kim Fields is bringing her fourth "Holiday Love" special to life this Christmas season, but this year there's a new twist.
A money-hungry reality TV producer starts recruiting pregnant women to take part in his show with the hopes that one of them gives birth on Christmas and their baby can be the real-life baby Jesus on the show.
Fields tells Zap2it that the idea for the special came to her and husband Christopher L. Morgan when they revealed her second pregnancy.
"It was when we did the announcement on 'The Real' over the summer. ... Once we realized the response we were getting and the outpouring of love and support, we were like, 'Ok, what if we finish it out by doing 'Holiday Love' as the final shebang.'" says Fields. "My husband said, 'What if you had this horrible nightmare that you were directing a wretched...

"Ex-gay" gospel singer Donnie McClurkin was cut from a Martin Luther King Jr. memorial concert Saturday because of the "potential controversy" it would cause.
McClurkin, who believes God absolved him from the "curse" of homosexuality, was set to perform Saturday at the “Reflections on Peace: From Gandhi to King” concert commemorating the 50th anniversary of King's March on Washington, The Washington Post noted.
On Saturday, things changed. He posted a seven-minute video to Socialcam claiming he had been uninvited from the civil rights event because of "politics." He pinned the blame on the mayor, the Arts and Humanities Commission and "a few protestors."
“These are bully tactics simply because of stances that I took never, ever demeaning, never, ever derogatorily addressing any, any lifestyle," he said.
The Washington Post reported Monday that Mayor Vincent C. Gray (D)requested McClurkin not attend after activists challenged the singer's appearance. Gray said he...

New York — Long before she became the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin sang in her father's Baptist church in Detroit.
On Saturday, she'll headline the annual McDonald's Gospelfest at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Donnie McClurkin, Hezekiah Walker and Cissy Houston will be featured.
But that's not the only event on Franklin's weekend calendar. She also has a meeting about her upcoming biopic, which has been in the works for years. Franklin says she's heavily involved in the project, including who will play her in the film. Front-runners include Jennifer Hudson and Tony winner Audra McDonald.
"I just try to come up with the names I feel are going to best present this, who are the people that will best present my biopic and what I have in mind," the 71-year-old singer said in an interview Thursday with The Associated Press.

The Oscars are too fancy shmancy for anyone to walk on stage with their “Thank You’s” written out on a tiny piece of scrap paper or, even worse, read from the winner’s iPhone. Instead, Oscar attendees tend to have carefully thought out shout outs that get straight to the point. That said, every so often, moments of real, actual emotion break through, which make stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Adele and Ben Affleck shine more than their exquisitely prepared peers.
It’s impossible not to adore Adele. Even with all the accolades, she remains very much a quirky, down-to-earth proud British girl. We open this week with a lovely tracking shot up the length of Dev's naked body, glowing in the early morning light as he sleeps off the rest of last night's drunk.
He opens his eyes and, after a moment's confusion at his surroundings, clearly thinks to himself, “What the hell did I get myself into last night?” He rolls over and spots just what the hell he got himself into last night. Mornin' Ivy!
Cut to Karen backstage walking with Jessica, who is incredulous upon learning that Derek had sex with Rebecca. Cut to Derek, who waves good morning. Back to the ladies, where Karen frets about her fight with Dev. She's been texting and texting and he hasn't responded. Oh Karen, what's the worst that could have happened?

Just days after a number of A-listers paid tribute to the late, great Whitney Houston at her funeral on Saturday in New Jersey, R&B crooner Robin Thicke decided to pay homage to the singer in his own way.
The singer dropped a cover of Houston's classic track "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" over the weekend, arranging the song with a piano and his own sweet falsetto voice. Released in November 1995, the original version was the lead single off Houston's "Waiting to Exhale" soundtrack. Thicke's soulful version definitely calls to mind Babyface, who wrote and produced the song for the late star. Noticeably, Thicke changed the song from the third person to the first person, making it a bit more personal.

After a stormy 14-year marriage to bad-boy singer Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston decided to end that chapter in 2006. Three years later, Houston had aligned again with mentor Clive Davis, the music industry impresario who first discovered a teenage Whitney belting out tunes in a nightclub and signed her to his Arista Records. Their final collaboration, I Look to You, was set to launch her on a "comeback" trail.
Like so many young singers, Alicia Keys — also a Davis acolyte — had long looked up to Houston. But the gifted songwriter cemented her connection to Houston, who was found dead at 48 a week ago, by writing the album's hit single, "Million Dollar Bill.
